Subject: OT-- I'm so bummed out

Unicornst ( ) posted Wed, 21 May 2008 at 10:12 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 5:19 PM

**Yeah, I know. This is a site about art and this is thread about singing, but I feel so bummed out I had to tell someone.

What am I bummed out about? American Idol and David  Archuleta being so behind David Cook at Dial Idol. The kid sang his heart last night and IMO deserves  to win. But even worse are the people who post over at the American Idol forums. They are so cruel, it breaks my heart. To slam a 17 year old kid they way they do is so wrong. I like American Idol, but reading those boards really took the enjoyment out of the show for me. I learned my lesson. I'm not ever going back there again. Too depressing. Too top it off, he got such high praises from the judges, it seems he had to walk away thinking he's won the title.

If anyone here hasn't watched it this year and want to hear the purest sounding voice, please do a search  for David Archuleta at youtube. He's really amazing.

If you have watched it and David Cook is your favorite, please understand that this isn't a slam  against him. He's extremely good as well. But to me, Archuleta's  voice is a gift that I, for one, could listen to  all day and still come away feeling astounded. I so hope the people texting votes make up the difference and then some.

Thanks for "listening".

I understand what you mean Janet.   I am a David Cook fan but that is because his style is more of what I like to listen to.  David Archuleta does have a beautiful voice though.  He is not my favorite but he shouldn't be slammed like that, afterall he is just a kid.

Unicornst ( ) posted Wed, 21 May 2008 at 10:50 AM

**Yep, I can understand there are rockers who want to see Cook win. Shoot, I was going back and forth between both of them until the last couple of weeks and last night made the final decision.  It just started seeming to me that Cook wasn't putting quite as much into his performances as he did when he was at the midway point. When Cook sang the Andrew Lloyd Webber song, my heart melted then, he gave it so much emotion. But amazingly enough  his die-hard fans didn't like it simply because he didn't re-arrange it into a rock song. I mean, get serious? That is a beautiful song and why would anyone mess it up by trying to change it, but less make it rock? Cook ain't no dummy. And it showed he could do other genres than rock.

Archuleta has his bad moments, I'll admit. At one point, I was wondering if it was all getting to him. The rehearsals, the commercial shooting, the appearances, the schoolwork....very exhausting and it seemed he was getting so tired. But last night showed he can get past all of that and still deliver a stellar performance. For some reason, Cook looked more exhausted than Archuleta last night. I think it all got to him on his last song of the night. First time I really saw any emotion from him since ALW night. Made me tear up. And then to see Archuleta try so hard to hold back tears when the judges gave him such accolades, well, that sent me over the edge.** 😊

Thanks for understanding. Both of these gentlemen have so much to offer and are of such polar genres, that I can understand people being divided. But there's never a need for cruelty on the level shown at those boards. I so wanted to get out my kitty cats.

**Oh, it's not the show as much as it the "fans" of the contestants. So I watch the show next year and stay far, far away from the boards. grin

And to note....it's the  only "reality" show I do watch. I like seeing undiscovered talent emerge. Sadly...they didn't have too many that were absolutely undiscovered this year. Most had previous experience and/or CD's, commercials, videos.

AnnieD ( ) posted Wed, 21 May 2008 at 2:18 PM

It doesn't really matter who wins..they will both get recording contracts and publicity.
The bad publicity goes with the good when you seek the limelight....when you become a celebrity in this country it seems you are fair game for any nut out there...not to mention the photographers who hound you day and night..
I'm sure these guys know that and what is said doesn't bother them nearly as much as it bothers their fans. ..and I'm sure that the fans get frustrated if they think their favorite isn't winning.     :m_grin:

**True...both  are winners in the long run. It's all up to them now and the title just means one is tied longer to AI than the other. And it's really nice to see that they can get along and  admire each other's talent even if the "Fans" have been so rabid this year.

Like I said......it's not the show. It's the so-called fans that spew venom for the one not their favorite. But since the results show is going to be starting shortly, I think I'll go watch and just enjoy the last one. lol

**Well, as most know by now, Cook won the title. And I must confess to being pleased. I think both gave stunning performances tonight on every song they did, but the most jaw-dropping moment for me was when both Davids sang together. OMG...they were perfectly in sync with each other and complimented each other so well. I swear if they  recorded anything together, I would be first in line to buy it.

I have to admit as much as I love Archuleta, seeing David Cook win brought tears to my eyes. Especially when he did something no winner has ever done before. He left the limelight to walk over to the rest of the Top12 and joined them instead. Bravo to a wonderfully good man.

StaceyG ( ) posted Thu, 22 May 2008 at 12:29 PM

You know personally, I think it worked out for the best for Archuleta as well because he is sooo young to be taking on all that.  They will both go on to do great things !!!

Last night was good

Forgive me for pointing this out, as it is not my intention to dampen the mood or anything.

But it occurres to me, that when it comes to being bumed out,  there are those of us who could only wish that  American Idol were the only thing we had to bum us out.

:tt2: :woot: 😉

**Daidalos,

I understand where you are coming from. On the other side of the coin is that sometimes we all need a bit of relief from life's stresses and that was one for me to just relax a bit. You see, I suffer from a chronic condition that will end up killing me in the end. I live with intense pain each and every day. I'm so far below poverty level income wise that I'm way under the basement. Any day, I could be evicted, but I'm rich in that I have an understanding landlord who is working with me. And today the brakes went out on my car right after I renewed the insurance today (and doing that left me with only 16 dollars to my name) and on my way home from the doctor who has set me with even more appointments with specialists that I'm going to have a very difficult time getting to without transportation now. I could keep going, but I think you might get the gist. So instead of getting bummed out by all the crap going on and the constant pain I live with, I choose to be bummed out by a silly television show.

I'm glad you responded the way you did Janet.. I was going to get to this and post kind of what you did but you did it much more eloquent than I could have:)

Unicornst ( ) posted Thu, 22 May 2008 at 10:12 PM

**Thanks Stacey. I honestly do understand Daidalos' viewpoint. I'm only hoping others peeking at this thread can understand mine.

BTW...I got my test results back. Good news is that the Lupus test came back negative. But I've been ordered to get my the liver specialist ASAP. And I still have the room-a-tall-just (love that spelling my sister came up with) as well as a neurologist appointment coming up. And they still have no idea why my legs keep buckling on me.
But wow...3 specialist. I must be extra special. grin

I too loved David A very much! But is he "idol" ready? Not yet is my thinking, but someone will cut him a huge recording deal and groom him for stardom as recording companies do! He will have a huge carreer especially after he gets old enough to fire his dad. LOL!!  I love his voice so much when he sings ballads!!!

What really sunk me to vote the whole season for David Cook was how he ripped a new one on Billie Jean!! OMG, when he started that song, I was like, OMG he is so not going to try this, but as his rendition played out, I was standing and cheering!  And, I was hooked as a David Cook fan.

This is the first season I got to watch Idol from start to finish. I think moving Idol to Tuesdays and Wednesdays was a huge successful good move so that Idol could capture those of us who are die hard Survivor fans. LOL!! I am one proudly! LMAO!

So, now I;m hooked on Idol and am lookin forward to next season!!

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 23 May 2008 at 4:21 PM

Oh Ruby, you are right.. The Billie Jean rendition is what sold me as well. It was AWESOME.. That took some guts and it was either going to be great or going to be a huge flop but dang if he didn't pull it off. I loved it!!!

RubyT ( ) posted Fri, 23 May 2008 at 5:37 PM

Yep, stars are made of the stuff this guy puts out!

Unicornst ( ) posted Fri, 23 May 2008 at 5:37 PM · edited Fri, 23 May 2008 at 5:38 PM

Music of the Night is what sold me on him going as far as he could. But I still think Archie is wonderful. Plus, he so reminds me of one of my grandsons when he smiles. grin

StaceyG ( ) posted Fri, 23 May 2008 at 6:58 PM

Oh I apologize, I forgot to add in my earlier post...Janet, I'm happy to hear about your negative Lupus results.  Good luck with the other appts, you special girl you:)

RubyT ( ) posted Fri, 23 May 2008 at 8:13 PM

She can't have Lupus, she's too onery for Lupus. LOL!!!  I was so relieved the test was negative!!

Unicornst ( ) posted Fri, 23 May 2008 at 11:20 PM

**Thank you, Stacey. Trust me, I was thrilled to hear that one came back negative considering 2 sisters have it (one which passed away because of it). Still going to be a  waiting period to figure out the rest of what's going on, though. But I can be  patient.

Ruby....P~~~~~~~~~~~ I ain't ornery, Girl. Just opinionated. LOL And where's my background you were gonna send? evil grin

Unicornst,

Of course you are special.

It takes a special person to be so gracious to such a jack ass, as myself when they are going through what you are.

Forgive my own self pity and bitterness.

I'll leave you all alone for now.

**Oh...please don't leave us alone. Different insight is what makes things interesting. And you're extremely gracious yourself.

Daidalos,

Never be alone with bitterness or self-pity. That's how it eats you up and takes over. I've been there.  Then I decided there are some things I can't control except by how I let it effect me and my attitude. And since I can't control what my own immune system is doing to my body, I made up my mind that I can damn sure control how it has me view the world around me. And I always keep in mind that there are many others even worse off than I am. And there are always friends when things get their toughest. I'd be honored if you considered me one for you.

So....Did you watch any of American Idol?** 😉**

Daidalos ( ) posted Mon, 26 May 2008 at 5:36 PM

No. Not really, but I saw the interview with the winner and the runner up.

I have to admit, I'd have liked to have seen or well  heard rather, the andrew loyd weber week. I mean I wish I'd have known that there would be one.

I'd liked to have heard  "Imagiine" since the judges themselves were so moved by it, and "Music of the night" since I am a phantom fanatic.

Try youtube.com. Lots of people uploaded the versions both live and studio recorded. Just type in the name of the contestant and the song title. Actually, you can see pretty much the entire show that way, including judges comments. grin Music of the Night was beautifully done by Cook.

Daidalos ( ) posted Tue, 27 May 2008 at 3:07 AM

Thanks unicornst I will try that.

Since you saw the show, can you tell me what other, songs were done by andrew loyd weber.

Where there anymore from phantom.

As I said I'm a phantom fanatic. I got to actually see it on broadway, and well it was one of the more memorable experiences in my life.

**David Archuleta sang Think of Me. Brooke White sang something from Evita, I believe. Jason Castro did a song from Cats. And I can't remember what Syesha Mercado did, but it was from another of his musicals, not Phantom. IMO, Music of the Night stole the entire show that night. Just type  in the contestants name and Andrew Lloyd Webber together and you should be able to find them all.

On a side note, I went looking for the original songs (at youtube) after it was listed what each was doing and completely fell in love with both Cats and Phantom. I kept looking for all the originals from each show. grin I'd never heard any of the songs before then and those songs left me with the desire to see the entire show for both of those mentioned. You can also hear the original versions at youtube. Youtube is wonderful for having things like that.

Hey, I wanted Brooke White to win, but what do I know. Archuleta is really too young. He's not ready yet. He has voice chops but he doesn't have the performance skills yet. Idol is more than just the singing. It's the whole package.

As far as what people may say about him, well, some people seem to have the need to make themselves feel good by putting other people down. Fact of life. Always gonna be people like that. I just ignore them. The internet gives so much anonymity that people seem to feel it's just fine to say anything they damn well please about other people. On the net or in real life, those people are, and always will be, complete morons.

Talent is God's gift to you. Using it is your gift to God.

Unicornst ( ) posted Sun, 01 June 2008 at 2:09 PM

**That's one of the things that I have to disagree with. That he's too young. He's the same age Jordon was last year when she won. And it seems most equate shyness with immaturity, for some reason. I've watched interviews with Archuleta since the end of AI and he really has a very straight head on his shoulders and a more mature outlook on life than most kids his age. As for Brook...yes, she has a wonderful talent as well. But the last few performances of hers, you could see the nervousness and tension and pressure taking it's toll on her. A couple of times, I even wondered if she was going to break down on stage, she was shaking so badly.

I do find it very ironic that with all the people who stated Archuleta could only get a job singing for Disney, that Cook is  now promoting Disney instead. Wonder what Simon's opinion would be on that since he started the Disney thing as a put-down to Archuleta.
