I spend lots of time in a computer which isn't mine (okay... my computer at work). I can't install Poser here (obviously)

Is there any way to convert Poser in a portable version for running from a pendrive? Not necessary Poser7. I store copies of all my previous versions: Poser4, PPP, 5, 6 and 7

Poser doesn't do much with the registry, due I think to its origins as a Mac application; just a few file associations and stuff. I think I once ran an uninstalled version of Poser off my old hard disk after I demoted it to a data disk and reinstalled Windows on a new disk. That was probably P4. Try it; I don't think anything bad will happen. You may end up with some extra registry entries, but if your company is tolerant enough to let you run Poser at work, I don't suppose they'd worry about that.

I run poser 6 and poser 7 from external hard drive - no problems.

Thinking about it, the registration number lives in the registry somewhere, so you'd have to re-enter that, and it would "officially" be part of an installation.

I've done something similar with Poser 5 that EnglishBob did with Poser 4.

No need for the registration number. The only thing with P7 is, you have to add the external runtimes again 'cause this information is stored in the  libraryPrefs.xml and this is on the main PC. So if  you save a copy and copy that to your foreign PC and change the path in the xml file you have your usual Poser installation carried on an external harddrive.

Poser 6 and earlier do nothing with the registry, except for associating file types (which is not essential).
I have always installed Poser on a different hard drive than the OS, and I found that reinstalling the OS (full reinstall, including reformatting the system drive) only loses menu shortcuts and file associations. I could start P6 and use it right away, without reinstalling.

Can i install Poser7 on two computers? I think there is something like we are not allowed to run both at the same time...

You can install Poser 7 on multiple computers. But you are allowed to run only one of those installations at a time.

So, for example, you can install Poser 7 on a laptop and on a desktop, use the laptop to set up a scene, transfer the scene to your desktop and render it on the desktop machine. That would be legitimate use and you'd need only one license.
Of course, you are not allowed to set up a new scene on the laptop while the desktop machine is rendering, and if the laptop and desktop are connected over a network, Poser would detect this situation and shut down.

I tried it, and it works. :) I now have Poser 4 and Poser 6 on my portable hard drive, complete with all preferences, and registered. All I had to do was tweak the UI to take into account that my work machine is a different resolution to my home one. Now I can play about with Python scripts at work. Expect me to be fired shortly. :D
