This is definitely  a "gotta have it" item! It's absolutely gorgeous. I hope my finances are better off when it does come out.

Great work Connie!
The big day is getting ever closer! 👍

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Thu, 05 June 2008 at 3:21 PM

Yeah, Randy is importing all the morphs in today.
I haven't started on the textures yet. This week today is the first day I can spend some serious time on it.
When Randy is done with morph imports, I may release it for alpha testing. This will be for rigging and geometry/morph functionality only. Without textures.

What are you using for rendering, Max, Carrara?

Yesterday's set of renders (with the beige outfit) are all poser renders... with AO and various quality settings near max... taking about 30-40 min per render.

Size doesn't matter? would you like a small ice cream or a big one?

Hey Vince, good to se you pop in :)

That texture draft is looking pretty nice. Is that a bit of pokethru on the ankles, or part of the texture?

stormchaser ( ) posted Sat, 07 June 2008 at 12:59 AM

Yeah, that texture looks great. Love the detail, I could almost reach out & touch it!

vincebagna ( ) posted Sat, 07 June 2008 at 3:30 AM

Looking at that texture, you seem to have very good UVs!

You should hide yourself full of shame to tease us like that!! Oo

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Sat, 07 June 2008 at 6:44 PM

Thanks guys.
I think I'm pretty happy about the UV's, except couple shoulder straps, the texture looks a bit big on them (which means they're little bit too small on the UV map)
But there's other ways around that too....

Here's another view. This checkered pattern that shows up is driving me crazy right now. I can't figure out what setting is causing it to show up. Shading rate, AO, ligthing setup, something else.
When I didn't need it, I seemed to be seeing threads dealing with it left and right, now I can't find any to save my life.  Hrrrmph!

i think that's what texture filtering fixes.  which is great if your on P7+, because you can apply it only to one material.  applied to a whole image, that'll slow things down.  i've had a similar problem with hair textures, and never found a solution. basically, the texture is so fine, it renders weirdly in Poser.  i have no idea if this is a problem in other renderers.  you can try rendering larger, getting your shading rate really low (and remember, the min shading rate is just a minimum, you actually have to select the group and change its shading rate), or maybe messing with the sampling and aliasing settings.  but i really don't know.

vincebagna ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2008 at 3:13 PM

The checkered pattern, i had the same provlem some times ago. And i haven't find any solution :(

It seems to occur when your texture has very small repeated patterns, like your actual texture.

Hmmmmmmm... I've been playing with texture filtering... and with a number of other settings too a point I'm overwhelmed with them, and none of it is making sense any more.    Meow!

Hi Connie,
That texture is just what I was hoping for, I just love the fabric & detail.

Regarding the problem, if you want, you can send me the texture & I'll see what I can do with it in Poser.

Joe - check your email :)

Since Joe had the cararra idea, I decided to run it through cararra myself too. Quick import. I dodn't tweak the shader parameters to get the same look as in previous poser renders, but I did use the same same texture maps. I probably didn't set the bump high enough, and I didn't bother setting it at all for the straps. I was just concerned with the main piece at the moment.

Talking to couple other people about the checker thing, it does to be a bug, or a limitation of firefly rendered. (YUCK)  As you can see in the pic, same texture in cararra, no problem-o.

Some days I wonder why I use Poser... today is one of those days.

Thnakees Stormy!
There are still couple things I need to figure out i cararra - like why my shadows aren't rendering soft, even though they are set to soft at the lights.... Byt, yea, much easier to get a better looking render in Cararra - or Vue. I didn't even use any of Cararra scene presets or environents, just imported poser lights!

Wow! Good one Connie! :D

In Carrara, don't think about the softness of shadows as in Poser. You have to set them up way higher, around 100 or even 500 with some lights. Give it a try ;)
