Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 07 7:37 am)
There were a bunch of threads about this when it first came out so you may wanna try searching.
Anyways, the main reasons for me were 64 bits, slightly more stable/faster rendering and that it has more export options like COLLADA. Some people also seem to like the background rendering and queue system. The rest of the features are pretty useless IMO.
Gareee, behave yourself! Oh... you are?? okay...
Some who aim for ultra realism say that the gamma correction in Poser Pro is worth the upgrade price on its own. I'm not really qualified to comment on that, just passing it on for others to, if they wish.

Plus, it depends on what you already have.. if you have just P4, then buying poser pro while it's on sale makes a world of sense over buying P7.
If you only have DS, then by the time you pay for 20 plugins, you've already paid for poser pro, which has a ton of additional export options, the powerful material room, rigging ability, universal pose converter, morphing bruch, dynamic hair and cloth, just a TON of things ds doesn't have.
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
I'm quite happy with my upgrade. The software feels a lot more robust and stable, especially if you have a 64 bit system/OS. I just upgraded my hardware to a Vista 64 quad core computer with 8 gigs of ram. The renderings are a lot faster when you go 64 bit with Pro, opening libraries even when that is not 64 bit feels faster too. The overall response of Pro feels faster than Poser 7. And finally what really made me decide to upgrade was the ability to send my render to the Queue and be able to keep working on Poser. I do a lot of animations so it is awesome to be able to send a job to be rendered to Poser's Queue and continue working . My only gripe is that it won't do video only images but I guess it makes sense because with stills its harder to loose your work if something goes wrong. Most changes in this version are under the hood but Poser has enough features that work good that other competing software has not been able to match yet that make me want to keep current. I do wish there had been more improvements and advanced features, especially for animation but it seems that from here things can only get better. So yes for $200.00 the upgrade to Pro from 7.0 is well worth and guarantees you the cheapest upgrade path once Poser 8 or Poser 8 Pro is released.
I didn't see much reason to upgrade to Poser 7, but when the Poser Pro base came out,
it seemed like too good a deal to pass up. I'm really happy with it so far.
I am really impressed with the render speed of Poser Pro. Not sure how it compares to
Poser 7, but I had been using Poser 6, and it seems a lot faster than Poser 6.
Plus I really like how it renders using multiple threads. It starts out like a normal render,
a block at a time, and then part way through, BANG!, the render is complete.

Yep, beautifull, isn't it? I bought the full version. Even though right now I can't use the plugins for 3D Studio Max because I'm still in version 7 and they run only in version 9 and up I figured $50.00 more now was a lot better than $199.00 for the upgrade from Pro basic to Pro full if I ever need the added functionality.
