There are a number of possibilities. Try creating a transparency mask based on the texture map. If you are not sure what I mean by that please let me know and I'll draw some pictures.

Other than that there is always Wardrobe Wizard :)

Ockham had a No-poke script that MIGHT fix it.

http://ockhamsbungalow.com/Python/

Phils idea of a transparency map is excellent , instead of making the thigh invisible , blank out only the leg parts.

A clothing converter would give you a better fit between characters .

OK we can do this step by step.

Do you have a 2D painting application such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Gimp or even Windows Paint?

Are you able to open the texture used for your figure in it?

nikkio3000 ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 5:48 PM

yes i have photoshop :-)

OK good,

Are you able to use it to open the texture used by your figure?

nikkio3000 ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 5:58 PM

nikkio3000 ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 6:05 PM

the skin texture right  not the pants texture?

markschum ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 6:24 PM

yes , for this you want the skin texture , you are going to make the thighs transparent and leave the part visible in your picture alone

  • sorry , stepping in phils lesson here *

nikkio3000 ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 6:28 PM

ok im ready tell what to do :-)

PhilC ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 6:35 PM · edited Sat, 09 August 2008 at 6:37 PM

Yes the skin texture.

Next I'll go through how to make a hole through the chest, This is obviously not the section you want masked but it will clearly illustrate the method. You can then easily refine it to mask off the section you require.

Start by creating two new layers.

On the top new layer use any of the painting tools to draw a large black circle over the chest area.

On the lower new layer flood fill with white.

You should now have a large black dot on a white background.

Go to the Photoshop menu and select "Save for web" Follow the dialogs and save the image as "your_figure_transparency_mask.jpg"

Into Poser click the Material tab

Mouse over the figure, the cursor changes to an eyedropper, select the chest area.

In the material pallet window right click an empty area, then from the pop up menu that appears select New Node > 2D texture > image_map. Browse for your_figure_transparency_mask.jpg

In the new node window that appears click on the small plug icon top left and drag it to the small socket icon displayed to the right of "Transparency" in the main Poser Surface material node.

Set that transparency value to 1.000

Does a hole appear in your figure?

Compare what you have with my screen shot above.

Wax on Wax off
Well done grasshopper :)

Now to paint the fence.
Do you now see how to make a mask that will hide the legs?

sorry im slow i don't get it....................... piece by piece please :-)

PhilC ( ) posted Sat, 09 August 2008 at 7:18 PM

OK no problem.

Go back to Potoshop

Select the top layer

Erase the black circle over the chest.

Now use painting tools to black out the legs.

Export to web as before over writing your original "your_figure_transparency_mask.jpg"

Back into Poser, what do you see?

Its a little difficult to see from your screen shot, have you painted black on the figure's texture map or have you created a new black and white mask similar to the previous example?

nikkio3000 ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2008 at 1:07 PM

Yes

Before was an example to show the method.
Now we do it for real (but using the same method)
I hope you kept a back up copy of the texture you now have black marks over.

I see your problem.  Your mask 4 should have a white background.   The rule is: black is invisible, white is not.  Here is an example.  Also zero out your transparency edge and falloff channels.

Plutom ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2008 at 3:05 PM

Phil, I hope you don't mind---and yes,  Nikkio did you save the original texture map?????
Nikkio, another thing did you click on the part you wanted the trans on, in this case the skinhip?

Phil, I never thought of doing cleanup using transparency maps--that is one darn good idea.  Jan
