Subject: Lighting for Elite textures?

I've played with both the Poser, Carrara, and D|S materials for the Elite textures with different light settings.  I'm pretty happy with the results I can get in Poser and Carrara, but even with the UberEnvironment, I'm not pleased with how the textures look in D|S.  Has anyone figured out what light settings look best?

with any of the skin textures i've used in D/S i've found having your glossines from about 40% to 60% and setting your lighting model to skin usually looks pretty descent and since i really oonly have D/S and well plastic skin is for plastic surgeons lol,  no seriously that's what i've found about skin settings in D/S is that you have to have your glossiness between 40% and 60% to not look like plastic

I've only really used Lana often so I can't speak for the other textures. Because she has a very fair skin color its easy to over light her btw. You could lower her spec setting to get around that somewhat if your scene needs bright lights. Oddly enough I got the best results with just white (colorless) lights on lower settings. Two side lights and a spot for the main highlights and shadows. I've also gotten some nice skin tones with it when I've added an IBL light as the ambient lighting and set it fairly low. Used a couple of colorless lights to get highlights and shadows. I'd stay away from lights that had heavy pink tones or heavy blue/green since she tends to be a bit pinkish already and the cool lights will make her look even paler. Unless your looking to draw out one of those factors your safer with neutral colors for the lights on her.

Quote - setting your lighting model to skin

The Elite textures don't use the basic DAZ Studio shader - they include the Human Surface Shader by Omnifreaker, which has very different settings and properties.

If you are getting very poor results with the Elite textures, make sure that the HSS was installed correctly - when you view one of the skin materials in the Surfaces plaette it should tell you which shader is applied near the top of the palette.

It's applied - it just doesn't look good with the lights
