Subject: Making my modeled corset into usable as clothes in Poser

artposer ( ) posted Sun, 16 November 2008 at 8:13 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 10:35 AM

Ok so I modeled a corset in Hexagon for V4 How do I turn it into a usable model in Poser?

Paloth ( ) posted Sun, 16 November 2008 at 11:02 PM

I'm not sure how all the V4 joint controlled magnets will complicate things, but try taking the corset model into the Setup Room and load the version of V4 without all of the morphs found in the Figure library. Delete the bones that the clothing doesn't need. Exit the Setup Room and your corset object is now a figure. Conform it to V4 and see what happens.

okay wow thanks

Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention. Your corset will need to have "parts" assigned to its sections that match the V4 parts in name and placement.

For some reason, Hexagon (an otherwise capable modeler) doesn't allow you to create parts. This leaves you with the option of using uv mapper to assign parts or trying Poser's "autogroup" feature.

Someone else will need to explain how these work.

The Setup Room will crash often, even if you're on the right track., but nothing crashes it like ungrouped polygons.

Here's a link into the middle of a tutorial which explains how to group a mesh with UVMapper. The rest of the tutorial might be of interest, too. :)

If you think you might be doing more of this clothes modelling lark, you might consider investing in PhilC's OBJ2CR2 tool. Just my humble opinion, but it rocks.

artposer ( ) posted Mon, 17 November 2008 at 5:25 AM

Yes I saw that and was contemplating getting it...PhilC's  Isaw it on his website thanks  is it sold on renderosity?

EnglishBob ( ) posted Mon, 17 November 2008 at 6:41 AM

No, you can get it direct from Phil's site, or through Content Paradise.

Another option is to use autogroupeditor and quickconform, sold here at rendo by Markdc. Autogroup editor gives you a little more control for the grouping than obj2cr2, and in quickconform you can select  just the bones you need without having the tedious task to delete all the obsolete bones. Obj2cr2 on the other hand works inside poser.
Another recommendation is morphin clothes of dimension3D, which transfers all the bodymorphs you need to the cr2-file. It's a little investment but worth all the money if you have serious plans in making clothes.

Best regards,

Bopper.

Good points, Bopper. It's worth mentioning that none of these "auto" programs can give you 100% of what you want without interaction. I prefer to tweak the grouping myself, whether it was done by AutoGroup Editor or OBJ2CR2 - I've used both. I haven't used Quick Conform, but I'm betting it isn't perfect either. In the end you use whatever you get on with best to get you most of the way.

While I'm here, it seems I forgot to add the promised link to my first post in this thread. So, although nobody complained at its absence, here it is. :)

Quick conform, just like with Obj2Cr2 you will still need to adjust some of the joint zones. I like using quick conform on certian clothing where Obj2Cr2 is better. Another thing to look at is Wardrobe Wizard2. You can take on obj file and "convert" it to the figure to make it conforming, but the same issues with the other programs, you may have to fix some joint zones.

Okay you guys a scaring me now I kind of was all set to buy Obj2Cr2 now I am not sure at all LOL.........

EnglishBob ( ) posted Mon, 17 November 2008 at 11:26 AM

OBJ2CR2 will give you something that will work, within Poser - it will be easier than using the setup room, and it will be many times easier than the manual method. Unless you've literally saved up your last pennies to buy it, I'd say go for it. Chances are, for a corset, you won't need to do anything else with its output. And if you do, Phil's after-sales service is second to none.

It wasn't my intention to scare you: Obj2cr2 is a good program to start with. Very easy to use and gives good results. And Philc gives good support, as Bob said.

best regards,

Bopper.
