Subject: Looking for someone to help me with promo images

Adrella ( ) posted Wed, 26 November 2008 at 1:04 AM · edited Fri, 31 January 2025 at 8:44 AM

Hi!  I'm looking for someone who can help me with making promo images for my products here.  It would really, REALLY be useful if you already have some experience in doing this for other vendors, but if not and you'd like to give it a go anyway, by all means PM me with links to your stuff and we can take it from there. In exchange for your images, I can offer you the products you create the images for, and of course will give you credit on the product page.  Thanks for any interest. :-)

I think you should do the promos yourself as it is part of the product making process. It's best that you avoid other people doing the work because everyone puts a different amount of effort into their promo images. They may want more than just a credit and a copy of the product. On the other hand, some people may do it for free just to help you out.

However, if you are unhappy with the work the other person does, how much time do you think they will want to invest in making the changes? (especially if you want alot changed).

If you suck at making promos, I suggest you go through the marketplace and see what promos inspire you. Learn from how other people make their promos and add your own style in your own promos.

It's important that you know how to do this as good promos can make or break your product.

Err...it's quite common practice here for some of the vendors to have their promos done by others.  For one, it's very time-consuming for a vendor when you'd rather be concentrating on making the products themselves (for instance it can take me up to 2 days just on the promos - and that's a lot of time that could be invested in other stuff I'd rather be doing, for instance I could be moving onto the next project by then), and secondly other artists are genuinely interested in doing this because it gives them another venue in which to display their work to the general public, so they get more exposure out of it too.  Plus, they receive the products for free in exchange for their work.

Quote - good promos can make or break your product.

Yes, which is precisely why I'm putting this call out.  😉

I appreciate your input, however.

I am not replying to your ad for a pomo artist, but I do want to let you know that I looked at your store and I don't see anything wrong with the promo images you have for your existing products.  In fact your Elfin Magic went into my wishlist for purchase either this Friday or on the 12th :)

I know that in merchant partnerships (where they get percentages of the sales) it's common to have others do the promo work but I am not aware that it is common otherwise.

Anyway, as Acadia said, there's nothing wrong with your promos. You may want to add a few things to spruce up the images like adding some decorative corners. You could also have some shots with a plainer background (yet still atractive) so the figures or your product stand out more. It's just a matter of sprucing things up.

If it takes you two days to make the promos then perhaps you need to plan your promos out a bit first so it makes things faster. Using a custom-made template, for example. If you have a custom look to your promos, it's like your identity. People would be able to recognise your products just by looking at the first thumbnail you see on the marketplace page.

If another person makes your promos then THEY can determine whether your product sells or not. They are the ones in control in regards to advertising.and not you. Also, if you change promo artists then you will change the style of the promos which could be either a good or bad thing.

I know how you feel about not wanting to do the promos because I feel the same way. Actually, I don't like putting the zip file together and uploading it either but I would rather make sure that everything is in the way I want it and that it is consistent.

If you still want others to make your promos then that's really up to you. Anyway, considering you have good products in your store, you shouldn't have many problems finding someone. Just remember what I said, though.

Good Luck!

Cheers,
Paul

Having someone else do the promos also gives you another beta-test of the product installation and use.  It helps if they know what size and the rules for doing promos.

one thing I've noticed about some of their promos and  banners here is nostril
glow and possibly other rendering errors, which implies they don't know what
they're doing.  if they don't even know how to render, how can they know more
complicated stuff?

That may be the point of the OP.  There are alot of reasons to do this and I really don't think there is anything at all wrong with it.

Anyway it is possible that a person doesn't have the type of machine it takes to get the really good type of renders they want while modeling programs and test renders go just fine (I have this issue sometimes).

It's possible like the OP said that they would just rather invest thier time and interest on other work.

My only advice in this is to be clear up front and not to be analy picky with the person who does it for you.  Allow them at least a small bit of artistic license or its really not fun for them either.

O.k. thanks for all the responses - I have some promo makers now so I'll call it a day.  Thanks for all the input. :-)
