Subject: e-onsanity

melikia ( ) posted Sat, 06 December 2008 at 1:17 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:10 PM

ok... so i find myself once again relying on my fellow vuers to keep me sane while waiting for something.

just how long does it take e-on to process a payment anyway??????????  I dont remember it being this long for pro studio.... but then again, i think that was done during a weekday.  and i've (obviousely) bought from them before, so im not exactly sure what the holdup is.

and why did i have to purchase V7i on a  FRIDAY NIGHT????????????

AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

so... anyone got a funny story to tell?

or a joke?

=D

(looks around hopefully for a thread of sanity to play with)

Well, if they don't work on weekends, as many companies (like daz) does, then odds are they won't process it until monday monring when they come back to work.

Also, because it IS the holiday season, that could though a big delay in payment processing as well.

Gee, melikia! You sound like you have MY syndrome!! lolol  lol!

I almost always end up ordering software on a Friday evening. And it ain't because of payday!
I think in my case, I  place my orders at that time because I can finally do so in peace...

But DOH!! I'm SO impatient!!  HUH?!?!

So for me, it's a catch-22:

I wait until I have a measure of peace before ordering software, which is usually after the week is done;

waiting for the order makes me anxious, as sometimes the order won't be updated on weekends;

my peaceful time is then no longer peaceful! 'Cause I can't wait to get da' software! lol
So I might as well have done it on, say, a Tuesday!!  LMAO!!

Edit: You asked for a funny story or joke, but try this on for size! (Really cool time-waster that was posted about at cornucopia3D!)

chuckles  i think i did the same thing when i ordered the Poser 7/Vue esprit bundle last year - on a friday night, late.

GRRR.  then had to wait for it to be shipped, which shipping anything to alaska is like sending it to mars.

right now, i am contenting myself with watching the Vue 7 video.... and deciding what i want to do as my first actual project in 7(and not just randomly poking buttons and going OOOOOO)... (yes Peggy, i hear you... my assignment =D  chuckles)

I'm hand sitting as well.. I ordered the update from geeks at play the other day. It's eviently being shipped by Eon anyway.

I've always purchased the downloadable upgrade in the past.

It just seems to me, that if you buy the more expensive boxed set. that a free download while you are wailting would be nice.

I think that they can't do that because the cd key is actually inside the boxed item, but there's no really good reason when they could have them made with a sticker of the cd key on the outside of the box, for eon to use in that respect.

After all, we need to provide the cd key when we upgrade anyway, so they could attach the upgrade key to our accounts, activate the download, and then ship the proper box to go along with it.

or the cd key could always be provided by email only, since we all have to order it online anyway, and then there would be no reason to have the key in the box at all.

Getting the manual AND an instant downloadable upgrade is the best way to serve consumers.

cus your on the OTHER side of the island!

apparently - alaska is a world of its own.  i've found more than 1 toll free number that works for everyone else but us alaskans.

when i used it (toll-free #) yesterday, i couldn't even get it to ring - i'd hear nothing, then the last PART of a word of what i can only assume is a canned message telling me i can't use this number in alaska because I'm actually on a different planet or something, and then i get hung up on.

when i used the number that i will have to pay long distance on, it worked fine & i got the beach boys - which was a pleasent surprise.  i like the beach boys =D

I live about 100 miles south of their US Corporate headquarters, right here in Oregon. So when I bought ProStudio they shipped me the Esprit disk from Paris. Express.
They couldn't stock a few boxes in Beaverton  for US shipping?

The best part of anything is the anticipation!  The waiting is the second best part (somebody told me that once).  Also I refuse to belive Alaska is anything but white, (maybe it's  because the US always sent me there in the winter and to the Carribean in the summer.)   It sounds as thought Eon has figured out a way to stretch the fun out!   Good luck with the new program.

melikia ( ) posted Mon, 08 December 2008 at 7:08 PM

LOL - thanks, Osper =D

and alaska isnt always white... just 75% of the time.  and that does sound like the US... alaska in winter, carribean in summer.... my dad works for a contractor under Nasa, and they send him all over the place - he recently got sent back up here to help with an antenna at the local university.  he said his most miserable journey was to puerto rico in august one year....

and his scariest was to sweden & norway... when he worked above the circle and was only given a small pistol to protect himself against polar bears.  he tried to refuse the gun, but they ordered him to take it - he said he'd never fire it at a bear... NOT because he doesnt believe in guns, but because it was so small ... it would only anger the bear more!

and i have to agree... i walked up on a young (i.e. SMALL) black bear this summer... close enough he knew i was there and i was suddenly all too aware he was there... and i realized... even a rocket launcher wouldn't be enough if he wanted to eat me.

lookin into that bear's eyes was a life-changing experience.  i had never seen anything ... wow.  i cant even really describe it.   even as my brain was screaming "its a censored by myself BEAR!  MOVE MOVE MOVE!!!" .... another part of me stood perfectly still, lowered my eyes enough, and marveled at the wonder of a bear standing 50 feet away at most... ok, maybe 100 feet (im bad at judging distances)... but i had that chance at first to look into the bear's eyes... soft, warm brown with little golden highlights... sparkling with high intelligence... and something i couldnt put my finger on until much later - as you dont usually see it in the eyes of domesticated animals...

WILDNESS.

anyways...

i can attest, alaska gets green sometimes =D  2 weeks of what i call "instant spring" - i'll have to record this, cus its too odd... you can WATCH the leaves grow!  a few weeks of "summer" - then, the rains... and then, the snow... and more snow... and still more snow.. and then mud.

well, other than my issues with radiosity atm....

the beautiful scene i worked on last night is STUNNNNNNNNNNING with the atmosphere.  unfortunately, everything i added and the materials i tweaked pale in comparison to that sky....

ecosystem painting on any surface is absolutely amazing, but as i wasn't fortunate enough to be able to really play with Infinite (6) before upgrading, i cannot say its any faster or easier than it was in 6.  i CAN tell you that working on vertical surfaces is interesting =D

The water editor is NOT as easy as i think it could be.  some functions werent working for me, or they werent cus i had no idea what i was doing with it LOL.

those CLOUDS!

wow.

lot more plants to play with... some new materials, some added ecosystems, more sample scenes to play with & pick apart (including Chipp's most excellent loft one - that was nifty looking.  too bad my radiosity and i aint gettin along.)

and everything renders FASTER.  EVERYTHING.

poser people seemed to load faster, too, but still load lookin just as horrid as they ever did.

oh... and i havent actually CRASHED the program yet, so that's a bonus =D

As for the bears....

they DO make "Bear Mace" - basically an industrial-sized bottle of the ever-popular jogger's best friend.  Its recommended that this be carried AT THE READY and lots of noise made while traveling in bear country.  This is so 1) the bears can find you easier, and 2) they have mace to flavor their meal.

You see, research has proven that bears LOVE the taste of mace.  And if you happen to be one of those idiots (we had a few up here this summer) who pointed the mace the WRONG WAY... well, call yourself a chef salad spritzer.

the mace only works if you hold it up and out and pointed straight at the bear's face and don't let go of the button no matter what.  while they love the taste, they aren't so fond of the stuff getting in their eyes.  but it takes a LOT to deter an angry/hungry bear.

And as i can attest from this past summer when i stumbled up on on one... noise isnt always in your best interest.  Mr Bear wanted a nice peaceful - i.e. QUIET - dinner eatting his rotting salmon.  As long as hubby & i were quiet, Mr Bear ignored us - as soon as we spoke or even whispered, that bear's head would come up and turn and look right at us like "ok, one more time, i know you are a slow human, but BE QUIET!"

ok.. off to wrap christmas pressies and to try to recreate my radiosity  dot issue.
