Subject: Veiny displacement map for V4

jquin3 ( ) posted Thu, 18 December 2008 at 12:33 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 5:13 PM

Hi, does anyone know of any displacement map free or for sale that can give Victoria 4 a veiny look similar to this one for Michael 4? Thanks for any help.

The M4 Daz Displacement map obove is for Daz Studio ONLY.

I dont get those maps, but if it is image based it can  be used in Carrara and Poser too.

The maps are TIFs, and are totally usable in Poser.  The only thing that makes it a DAZ Studio-only install is that it doesn't come with pose files, so you have to add the maps manually.

I know, I know, brutally hard for some people.

You have to wonder WHY Daz would deliberately make a product that isnt usable in Poser ?

The map are apparently 16bit TIFFs which can be used by D|S, P7, and PPro (see attached link).

DAZ was probably playing safe by applying the D|S only tag.

What's more annoying is that recent D|S only products have had product codes starting with "ps_" rather than "ds_".

Because DS allows for partial matposes, which Poser doesn't. There is no way in standard Poser to apply just a displacement map. It can probably be done with a python script though.

Silke ( ) posted Fri, 19 December 2008 at 5:20 AM

I am using those maps in Poser 7 just fine.

There are also two phython scripts posted on the Daz Forum, and on RDNA, which will apply the partial nodes exactly where they need to go.

Personally I set up shader spider partial FX shaders, but those scripts are very very good.
So don't be put off by the "DS only" thing, if you have P7. (This won't work in P6 and below)
If you are on P7, then the "DS only" just applies to the MAT files, really.

So its possible to use this displacement map for V4 even it was made for M4? and in Poser?

Silke ( ) posted Sun, 21 December 2008 at 3:47 AM · edited Sun, 21 December 2008 at 3:47 AM

I've tried it on the M4V4 and it didn't seem to fit. :)
But on M4... nice. Very nice.
I've just posted an image to the gallery here if you want to see. :)

Warning! Nudity!

Amazing work!

How do you use Phython Scripts?

Silke ( ) posted Sun, 21 December 2008 at 11:08 AM

Just install them and run them either from your scripts menu (in P7, if it was written to go in there) or load up the Window --> Python thingy from there and navigate to it.
With the displacement ones that got made, there is a mat file that runs it automatically.

Yeah, coz I was asking if there is a similar item (free or for sale) for V4 and nobody has any idea.

Silke ( ) posted Mon, 22 December 2008 at 2:33 AM

Tried the M4 ones on V4 and they don't seem to fit.
I'm sure with a bit of work they can be made to fit... but they don't out of the box. :)

I haven't seen any specific V4 ones.

You would have to assume that texture converter with plugins to do M4 to V4 would work. If nobody answers I might give it a try myself over the up coming long weekend.

I sent TC2 back and I didn't buy the V4 plugin anyway lol.
So I can't try. :)

Veins would have to show a colour. Muscles not. So if you don't have a coloured texture with coloured veins, I don't see how with the displacement map they can show properly. A displacement map would have to be done over a coloured texture, and not generally for a character only. Each body is different from the other. I would never purchasing a generic displacement map to apply over a woman. Veins for someone are shown in a place, for other are shown in another place, and DO have their own colour.

You may showing those maps only for a few of renderings, but you can't use it always. Don't know if does have a sense, just trying to explain.

In this rendering am showing a fast work done with the displacement map worked on the  skin texture of THIS character. Wouldn't go with any other. (Beeing an intim character's part I had to hide half of it).

What DAZ did is technically right because is an accurate work, but does not consder the difference between each human people. Mostly if we speak of veins.
