First of all I want to thank everyone who helped me find the stockings I wanted. Now I need how to make a displacement map for them. I have made a texture and everything is looking good, but when I render it using V4 texture... it's looking 'flat' I played around with 'transparent' nodes and tried 'bump' maps, but I think it's a displacement I need.

Does this have any kind of transmap applied? Or is it just a texture overlay?

In both cases you can fairly easily make a displacement map.

It's easiest if there's a transmap, in that case you can justplug that into the displacement node (and turn it down from the outrageous 2.54 it defaults at)

If there's no transmap ad this is a texture overlay it's almost as easy, providing you have either Photoshop or PSP.

Take the overlay and make a monochrome (black/white/desaturated) copy of it. Boost the brightness so it's almost white and put it on a new, black layer. Save and use as displacement map.You might want to give it a slight blur to even out the edges,

Hope it makes sense :)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

thanks Trekkiegirl for answering so quickly. I have no idea what a transmap is...lol  ... this is just a texture.  I'll give it a go as soon as I find out what I did to get the stockings on her in the first place.  hehehe

OK. got that sorted out. Now I made the displacement map (which is really a 'transparent map' isn't it?) added it and then 'upped' the value to 1 as I couldn't see any difference. This is what I got.. which still doesn't look any different. I have a tut. on making displacement maps and second skins by SVDL, but it's been done on a PC and there are subtle differences and it's just not working with my mac.

What do you suggest now?

Larger one has the displacement map.

Do you have displacement enabled in the render settings?

Ohhh... wow... that worked.  Thank you so very much.. now I shall just play around with the values till I get what I like.
