Subject: How do I create 3rd party poser files?

Hello everyone.

I am wondering if anyone can help with this question of which you've probably been asked a thousand times.

I am looking at creating and texturing models using a combination of Hexagon2.5 and Carrara6pro and wondered if it was possible to import the finished obj plus textures into poser6 and then save then as poser files for release.

If it is possible then any tip on the best way to do this would be a great help.

Import your obj file (or other format on the import file types list) which is grouped for materials and/or uv mapped . Apply textures. Save to poser library.

  1. geometries should be in runtime/geometries/[your vendor name] folder
  2. texture images should be in runtime/textures/[your vendor name] folder
3.save to library in [your vendor name]  folder
  3. check geometry is not embedded (depends on the store rules)
  4. for figures set pivot points , joints etc and save again to folder
  5. Make any mat poses/ poses/ camera and light sets and save them .
  6. Move a copy of everything to a c:runtime folder, keeping the runtime folder structure
  7. Make a readme file - names [vendor]_[product]_readme.txt  containing product name
description, any hints or restrictions , useage statement , copyright statement etc etc
  8. make a zip file from the c:runtime saving folder path info

Using a c:runtimeetc folder makes it easy to create a zip that will etract to the right place.

Many thanks for the reply. I will give your step by step a go and see what happens... Fingers crossed (grin!)

If you're making only props and you want to give them away as freebies, all you need is actually  1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and..er..9.

non-embedded geometry is preferable but Poser embeds the geometry when you save something as a prop and you have to even be good at knowing which bits to remove from the pp2 - or use some external software.

Since I haven't got the foggiest idea of what to "extract" I personally rely on a program called PWizard. Not sure if it's still available, but in any case, Dimension3D's PoserFileEditor can do it, too. And it's a great great tool (hope this doesn't give me any problems with the new "no commercials" policy?) for many other things. May seem a little overwhelming at first, but just don't be intimidated and try it out slowly ^_^

Good luck. I'm using Hexagon myself for most of my models these days, and it's such a great program for making Poser stuff!

geometry stripper in freestuff here is quite good.

I only count to 9  lol I get confused after that . lol

You may want to set the center for some props if it makes more sense to rotate from a specific spot, it can make positioning a bit easier. Use the joint editor for that.

Ah I thoght there ought to be a free one around. I jist haven't tried that, I cling to PWizard (once you get used to a specific application, and it works.. well..)

Two-digit-numbers are hard to compute ;)
