Paid for a product here, now you can download the product for free on the merchants site. I wrote an email to Stacey. But she hasn't responded yet.

I am angry as heck. Why pay, then can get it for free later?
bazze muscle car.

That's just a risk you take with anything you buy.  Imagine how the folks who shelled out for Bryce felt when it became free?  It happens...  Sometimes an artist will decide to make something free if it does not sell well, rather than just pulling it altogether.  The bottom line is Caveat Emptor.  What item was it BTW?

Robo2010 ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 1:24 PM

Bazzes muscle car. I went to download a texture, and found out while on his site, you can download the car, just the way product was sold.

Well, my spending habits have now changed. Same with C6, I just purchased about 6 months ago, and now they come out with C7 which was suppose to be an update, but they made it Carrara 7. I find this abuse with money.

Mark@poser ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 2:04 PM

I certainly understand the feeling here. I've bought models that then became free.

I did want to mention that Bazze is making some new models and just giving them away. He just put up some pictures of a new one today:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1837208

He says it will be free. Maybe that's some compensation.

pjz99 ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 2:11 PM

Bazze made this change many months ago.  He got a job with Massive Entertainment and stopped selling Poser content because (I think) of concern about conflict of interest.  I don't see that there's anything to be angry at Bazze for - when did you buy this model anyway?  And it's not really your place to say what he does with the model, , he DOES own the rights to it.

Thanks to you, Robo2010, I have found his amazing free downloads! Bazze is amazing!

I can imagine how you feel, but don't be angry. : ) Your purchase was well-spent (look at it this way: you could have paid for crap instead of quality).  ;)

And your post has alerted those like me who were unaware of such a wonderful, free item.
Guess what? Giving is cyclical; check your email! (Not your IM, your email!)  sticking out tongue

How about if a product of any kind goes on sale a year after you buy it, does it still make you demand a refund?  You're being really unreasonable.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 2:21 PM · edited Sun, 22 February 2009 at 2:24 PM

Its not a year later. Even if it was, that kind of marketing is rude and unkind, abuse. I wasn't aware that this would happen (going to be free), or I would have hold off from spending. Whats to be unreasable about the situation? The product is in American dollars, but me using my Canadian dollars costs more, including other charges.

Khai ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 3:12 PM · edited Sun, 22 February 2009 at 3:13 PM

if you look carefully, the deal is as follows. "*For personal non-commercial use only." * his website copy.

the one from here (Rendo) allows Commercial usage.

there's no rip off or abuse here.

Look at it this way. You found his freebies!! Grab em' all while they're still there. Some of the ones listed in his freebies section here are no longer available on that page on his site like the lego car and wooden robot! Lot's of nice free Poser fighter jets though!

Believable3D ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 3:46 PM · edited Sun, 22 February 2009 at 3:49 PM

As Khai notes, if it's for personal non-commercial use only, it's not really the same product, as these products are licenses.

In any case, if you purchased it, you showed how you valued the product. Heck, your own review of the product confirmed that.

Prices are just imputations of value. Whoever buys at the vendor's price agrees to impute the same value to it as the vendor has requested.

We've all bought something and discovered we could have waited and paid less, or bought something else that was just as valuable but cost less. But that doesn't mean we were ripped off; we bought at the price tendered, which sez that it was worth that much to us, after all. If the vendor decides to be extra generous later on, it may make us wince, but it's generosity, not underhandedness.

sparrownightmare ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 4:39 PM

Here's something else you should remember.  Take it from someone who also does techie style models (aircraft, spacecraft etc.)  These models are EXTREMELY difficult to make.  They can take weeks just to get the mesh right and I won't even go into what the textures take to get right.  Bezze has decided to GIVE AWAY something that probably represents at least 100 man hours to create.  You should just consider the amount you paid a small thank you to him for creating what you now have as well as all of the other freebies on his site.  Most of seriously underprice items we sell to begin with.  If you want to see sticker shock, try TurboSquid.com where a simple lamp post can cost as much as $25, when it only takes an hour or two to throw toghether...  Consider yourself lucky.  Bezze could have just taken all of his models offline for good, but he didn't, and for that he should be thanked, so stop whining :)

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 4:44 PM

Look, If you go to a car dealer and buy their latest and greatest new car, do you go back a year later when they're selling off last year's brands for thousands less and whine and cry because the price is lower? No, you don't. This is the same thing. Things devalue with time. If you don't want to spend top dollar. Wait for it! A Sale will come around. This goes for everyone who rushes to buy the latest releases from DAZ and then complain two months later when they have it all on sale. Get over it. This is how market places have run for millenia!

lisarichie ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 4:48 PM

@OP

Would ya be complaining if you had downloaded it for free then it went on the market?

You did not spend "more" in Canadian dollars than you would have in US Dollars......you spent what it cost period.

Note: foreign exchange rates -  X  currency = Y US Dollars therefore Y US Dollars = **X ** currency

The ONLY time fluctuations in the exchange rate have any meaning outside of equivalency is if you play the currency exchange market, the rest is self inflicted noise and confusion.

You bought it, now it's free....stuff happens. Sometimes it works for you, sometimes it doesn't; be pragmatic about the situation...less stress.

Though if it was me I would demand a refund, credit for any future purchases I might possibly consider, terminate my internet service, and sell my computer...probably even have the power and water turned off also just for full measure.

Sure would show those pesky merchants but good for having the audacity to release something for free after it was up for sale previously.

Ok, I really think that both sides have had fun attacking.  Robo10, it's fine to vent, but, in the end, it's up to Bazze to charge for his work or not.  Voicing your displeasure to him personally would probably get you a faster answer.
As for further posts...guys, seriously, no more "get over it" posts.  They're kinda rude, ya know?  People are allowed to vent, yeah?  You don't have to respond to posts like this.

hope your recommendation to OP doesn't result in take down of models by Anders, fingers crossed (case in point, noticed many freebies from batlabs of late?)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 6:09 PM

Actually I know exactly what the OP means. I did feel the same way when X2000 (I think it's the name) made his Star Trek things free after I'd bought them.

It's really not the same as last year's car. And then again, in a way it is.

I'm split. I admit that when someone takes the time to write me about my discontinued store items here, I'm usually giving them away (unlerss they're st8ill for sale somewhere else) but it's the same reason why I'm practically never doing a store-wide sale -  I HATE to buy something and find it on sale a week later. It's more OK with older stuff, but recently I bought a fairly expensive scene (brand new!) only to see it go on sale three days later. It influenses how much I want to deal with that seller again. Not necessarily to a point where I'll never buy his or her stuff again, but I'm much more tempted to wait a while and see it go on sale. A well-known texture artist here routinely puts all their stuff on sale ever so often. I would never ever buy anything at full price from that vendor because I know that if I wait a week or two,it'll be on sale - again.

To me, that's bad business. But to each their own. It does influence my buying habits though. If someone always puts their things on sale after the first month.. why rush in and buy it? Or as in this cvase.. it they give it away after a few morths.. why pay for it at all. Most of us aren't using the stuff commercially anyway.

PhilC otoh does the opposite. Some of his things start out as freebies and are later converted to For Sale stuff. This is more edible to me: Be an early bird, grab it while it's hot and save money. Or be lazy and pay for that LOL

ok there's some SERIOUS missing the point here.

there are 2 licenses.

1 : the Free version. you are NOT allowed to do commercial work with this.
2:  the Paid version. You are ALLOWED to to commercial work with this.

there is NO bait and switch here. it's simple. the OP has bought the right to do commercial work with the mesh.

it's that simple.

Well I for one hope this ethic catches-on!  I've paid to see a lot of movies - then later discover that they've had the nerve to put the darn things on TV for FREE!    Gonna cash in on this trend!

You want to know what I find rude? A Thread started for the sole purpose of slagging on one of this site's members who went from selling his items to giving them away for free. First off, it's off topic and should have been labeled OT since it's not Poser related. Second it's inflamatory to accuse another member, be they merchant/vendor  or customer of underhanded practices for giving away their work.

If the OP had a problem with the purchase, they should have PM'd either the merchant of the item or the store admin's and asked for a refund. Instead they came to the forums to rant over what most people with common sense concider to be a fact of life! Item's go on sale. Merchants do have give aways of their items. There's nothing unfair or unethical about it!

Historically it happens in this market a LOT! V3, M3, H3, A3 & D3 were all items people had to buy originally. Now they're giving them away. Same goes for Apollo. Does it make people angry? Sure. Nobody likes wasting money. Is it unethical? Not in the least.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 6:37 PM

I made an email and waited, but no response.  Good to make noise, than nothing at all.

Quoted for Truth

Read the above, people.  These are TWO DIFFERENT PRODUCTS!

One is a freebie you can take home and play with.  One is a paid product that grants you certain license rights.

The are NOT the same.

The OP had the luck of being able to purchase a commercial license for this excellent product.  The hordes of freebie owners have no such luxury.  Whether or not that matters to the OP isn't the point.  The point is.. it isn't the same product.

JenX ( ) posted Sun, 22 February 2009 at 6:43 PM
