Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 11 3:50 am)
Now.. my problem occurred in Vista and not XP, but just to aliminate the video driver as a possible culprit, try switching preview modes to SreeD and see if the problem persists. If this fixes it then it's definitely something wit the OpenGL driver and you should check for an update of your video driver.
If it keeps crashing after this, then it's something else...
When you installed it, did you install it on top of the existing Poser or in a new location?

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Before you re-installed Poser, you should make sure to get rid of any leftovers of the previous installation, by deleting the whole Poser 7 folder.
If you have content in there that you don't want to lose, by all means take a backup copy of the folder first... but that folder should be completely deleted before a fresh install.
Hope it helps...

If nothing helps, look into the Poser settings folder, usually to be found in c:Documents and SettingsYour_NameApplication DataPoser 7 and rename the LibraryPrefs.xml and the Poser.ini.
Maybe the path is not correct as I'm running windows in a German version but ist should be something like the above stated.

Okay, so it does not appear to be a problem with the Poser installation, or with your video card, is what you seem to be saying.
It might just be a memory problem (unless you also run other applications that use as much memory as Poser and they work fine). To eliminate this possibility you can run the Windows memory diagnostic utility. You will need to download this from the Microsoft web site and create a bootup CD.
The only other thing I can suggest is to think back to what you changed just before it started playing up, and try to undo it... perhaps by going back to a System Restore point from before it started misbehaving. You do have System Restore points.... don't you? :O)

What brand video card do you have installed?

Now.. I'm just silly and all.. but did you ever try to change the preview mode? Just to ELIMINATE the possibility of this being OpenGL related?
There was a new NVidia driver out this week. So ... well. You have the latest drivers of course. But it's still worth investigating the possibility of an OpenGL issue - and that is easily done by changing to the non-OpenGL SreeD preview.

Quote - I found the solution to the problem at another site. My anti-virus software was picking up a Poser process as being a Trojan and was refusing to let it run. Unfortunately the window that said it was blocking a process was coming up behind Poser so I couldn't see it to tell it to knock it off ;-)
What site and what was the solution?

I had this same issue when I would run any python based program. I had contacted my AV maker and they told me how to get it working with a few "tweaks"

Poser 7 was running fine until about a week ago when it started crashing whenever I would run PhilC's "Scissors". Then it started crashing if I rendered with a separate process (if I got into the running processes the firefly render engine continues to run even though Poser has disappeared). If I render without using a separate process, I seem to run a 75% chance of getting a message that Poser is out of memory and I should render in a separate process (which doesn't work either).
I completely uninstalled Poser 7 and reinstalled it but SR1 and SR2 are no longer available to download so I had to install SR3 (grr). I thought doing a reinstall of Poser would fix whatever went wrong but I'm still having the exact same problems. I'm running Windows XP and all of my drivers are up to date...any suggestions on how to correct this would be most appreciated.
