Subject: Poser to Bryce program needed.

Warder ( ) posted Sat, 07 July 2001 at 1:40 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 12:43 AM

Hellos, I've been visiting this site for a LONG time, and have read through the posts in this forum and in the Bryce forum. There are tutorials out that tells how to manually port a Poser figure to Bryce with textures, however, non of them works so far. Lame bryce always look for the default man/woman texture and clothings, which is purely lame, of course. So.... I saw that Suzanna and Natural Pose for Bryce but they don't port just a still frame of Poser to Bryce, only animations, which crosses them off my list.. Does anybody know of any working Poser to Bryce conversion program?

MaterialForge ( ) posted Sat, 07 July 2001 at 1:47 PM

Well, not sure about other apps, but there was a post in the Bryce forum last week that had a tip for making Poser textures map properly in Bryce. You might wanna check that out and see if it will do what you're looking for. Hope that helps somewhat! --silver

Warder when you save a Poser figure remember the file. Then load all the textures in that file that are on the Poser figure. Bryce will load them. However will not read a bum file. You may have to tweak a bit in Bryce. Ron

Save your poser figures as wavefront obj files and then edit the textures. Works every time.

There is a program called Susanna available from www.datamike.com/susu.htm that purports to allow Poser scenes, animations, etc. to be hosted in Bryce. I have not tested it yet, and this is NOT an endorsement, but it sounds interesting. Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

Guess I'll have to go for it since I do own it and let you guys know how it works. Marque

The export as OBJ was the problem I was talking about, It does NOT work everytime. AS for the bryce form comment, I'll check around again, maybe it'll help.. the Suzanna I donno, if it does stills, that'll be great.. if not, then It's useless for me. Thanks for you guys's help anyways.. Maybe Bryce 5 will have an import for Poser characters that work.

atthisstage ( ) posted Sat, 07 July 2001 at 3:36 PM

When you export as an obj, it creates temporary textures in Bryce that have to be replaced to match the ones used in the original Poser construct. You MUST re-enter the textures for each piece of the export. Also, make sure you UNGROUP the export BEFORE reinstalling the textures. And yes, it DOES work every time if you're doing it properly.

Marque: If there is a way you can test that Susanna (since you already own it) and let me know if it works? Nosfiratu: Thanks for the URL, I went to the site and unfortunately it does not have a demo to prove that that program does what it is advertised. There are way too many products on the internet that requires to you register before testing, and most of those products do not even work. Yes, I've taken risks one to many time, and there's no way i'm going to waste money on something that may not work :) I bookmarked the URL just in case someone finds that program to work. To Everybody Else: Either I am doing this improperly, the tutorials, that I am following EXACTLY, EVERY SINGLE TIME, and it DOES NOT work, or that tutorials (there are several urls I have to different tutorials by different people on how to port from pose to bryce) are clearly wrong, or there is no such thing.. take your pick. If you have urls to working tutorials that would help.

I am blown away!!! Somone asked if they could import a single obj into Bryce with Susanna, yes, and I did it in under 15 minutes the first time. She looks washed out because I haven't set anything up yet lightwise, and the reason her eyes are dark is because I forgot to turn the transparency for the lashes up in Poser. This is so cool. I will let you know how the animation goes. Marque

Fifteen seconds, not minutes, with VueMaster -- unless you have BUM maps for it to convert, then takes a little longer, or trans maps to invert automatically. Latest version will also create an MTL file, so even Poser3 users can bring their stuff into other apps. Marque ( ) posted Sun, 08 July 2001 at 7:58 PM

But this is an animation Dan so it take a little longer for the first time...lol Have to read the manual and such. You forget, I bought VueMaster. 8^) Someone had asked earlier if the Susanna program would pull in one obj so I was answering them. Marque

dwilmes ( ) posted Sun, 08 July 2001 at 8:34 PM

That's OK Marque, I understood, but Warder was asking only about a single obj, and I couldn't see someone spending all that money if they didn't do animations, just to get the capability of doing a single obj. You know, your ladie's navel is simply begging for a large diamond stuck in it, LOL! So, you haven't sent one yet??! lol I still have to fire Vue Master up, you know me....grab the programs for later. Marque

Hi Guy's Have any of you tried Grouper11 Linked on Omni3D This prog also states that it can import poser files into bryce runs on win 98 not 2000 but the good thing is it is free go have a look As with a lot of the community i have also paid out for duff progs perhaps renderosity should put out a page where new progs could be reviewed and rated? program developers would also benefit by haveing programs viewed by the very people they wish to sell to in one place

hankim ( ) posted Mon, 09 July 2001 at 7:37 AM

Warder, I would be glad to email you instructions and work with you, if that would help. You can see my gallery pics for poser to bryce images, every one of them (some better than others lol)

Warder ( ) posted Mon, 09 July 2001 at 3:07 PM

Cliss: Where is that Omni3D page at? I can't find it.. erk.. nevermind, it only works for Win98 and not the stable win2000 :) So I can't use it... heh, I still don't know why people want to use that old os... :P Hankim: That would be very helpful if you could.... phalen@unformed.com

hankim ( ) posted Mon, 09 July 2001 at 8:17 PM

No prob, emailing you now

Warder ( ) posted Tue, 10 July 2001 at 2:35 PM

Ok, I tried the email, interesting, but it still do the job, even with all the textures in the right directories, it still didnt load any of the textures needed. So I went out and bought VueMaster, while I was at work today :) Actually, I am still at work :) Just passing the time. So when I get home in 4 1/2 hours, I'll try VueMaster, if it doesn't do the job, ie, translate the textures needed from Poser to Bryce, then I'll go out and buy Susanna and see if it does what I need... Thanks guys! :)

hankim ( ) posted Tue, 10 July 2001 at 7:46 PM

Sorry it didn't work...keep us posted how it works out, let me know if there's anything else I can try to help

Warder ( ) posted Wed, 11 July 2001 at 3:21 PM

hankim: Thanks for helping anyways, but for some reason, it doesn't work :( Anyhow, Vuemaster doesn't do any thing either. It errors out on me for some reason, everytime I try to make a MTL file, ~shrugs~ This does the same with all models for some reason, so as soon as I get paid again.. mmm... 25th of July, I will go out and buy Suzanna, since Marque shows that it works :) However, who knows, so far nothing has worked on any of the models I've tried them on ~shrugs~ oh well, I'll update this post as I go along, unless anybody else has any more tips on this subject.

Warder ( ) posted Wed, 11 July 2001 at 3:36 PM

I read the Susanna manual and according to what it says. Susanna doesn't import Poser Models and textures into Bryce. :( The manual only states that you import the object into bryce as a OBJ, and find the textures and apply the textures like "normally", which is total BS for what i need :( Since the "normal" ways doesn't work..... Any other suggestions of products to use?

dwilmes ( ) posted Wed, 11 July 2001 at 4:09 PM

Before you go out and spend money, I would suggest you look into finding out what is wrong with your system. Hankim sent you instructions on how to do it one way, a way that obviously works on HIS system, and it doesn't on yours. You say VueMaster didn't work, and sent me all the files involved plus a couple extra (tex maps that were not listed in the PZ3), all 8MB, by email... I ran the files thru VM on my machine, and it worked flawlessly. I looked at your VMLog, and there were NO error messages in it. VM converts Poser's MTL file so that it can be read by other apps, and copies all files needed to the output folder, which is precisely what it did -- on my system. All this indicates that there is something wrong in your system, whether it be a bad dll, a dieing drive, an antivirus app, a screensaver, some other "watchdog" app, whatever. But SOMEthing is wrong, and it isn't VueMaster, and it isn't Hankim's solution, since both work elsewhere, in VM's case, with the identical files. Dan http://www.neca.com/~dwilmes/cr2edit.html Sorry Win only for software http://www.zenwareonline.com for ZenPaint, ZenTile, ZenGrid and VueMaster

dwilmes ( ) posted Wed, 11 July 2001 at 4:25 PM

Whoa, I think I have it, you said "make a MTL file". You don't need to; you already have one! Poser4 creates it, but it is not readable by other apps. The "Make MTL File" tool is for Poser3 users (P3 exports an OBJ but no MTL), this is stated in the second line of the Help. Your PZ3 file contains features that will crash P3, and so when you attempt to make an MTL, you've got trouble, since VM is expecting a P3 file. Guess I will have to add a check for that, since obviously I can't expect everyone to actually read how to use a program. BUT, since you also did it the correct way, by clicking "Open" rather than "Make MTL", and generated a log with no errors and yet you say there were no files in the output folder, you either aren't looking in the right place, or my words about your system being screwed up somehow are still true. I guess I'll give it another shot tonight after the movies.. Final Fantasy is out tonight and I got the tickets for my fiance and I. heh. Anyhow, I'll check it out again when I get back, either tonight, or after work tomorrow. depending on how long the movie is. (1h 50m?) Then I guess I'll post my results again.
