Subject: May Challenge - BLACK, WHITE AND SHADES OF GRAY

tresamie ( ) posted Thu, 07 May 2009 at 10:46 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 9:28 AM

Hi All!

It's Challenge Time again!  Here is a snip from geoegress' note to me:

"how about a "Black and White" It is an under used artistic technique that produces some really great pictures. (B&W, grey scale, sketch render, it's what I mean)  "

I always like this kind of topic!  The challenge is for everyone, regardless of their creative tools.  Everyone can enter, whether they are using 2D, 3D, fractal, animation or any other software;  whether they are photographers, writers or even musicians.  The challenge arena is open to all.  Come and join in, test your creative tools against all the others!

The Challenge begins immediately and will close to entries at the end of May.  I will give you a few days notice.  All entries will be to this thread or with a link to a larger image. Voting will begin then in the same thread.

You may enter an existing work if you like, but we would prefer to see a new work created for this challenge... it IS a challenge after all, lol!  You may enter more than one work, but remember that in the voting, each entry will be judged separately. If you choose to enter more than once, please NAME EACH OF YOUR ENTRIES!

Show us your inspiration!!

Thanks geoegress, for pointing me to this challenge. I just posted a bw portrait which was created in Poser with a bit of PSP work...here it is for the contest.  [ http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1883742](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1883742) and a smaller version for the thread:

I've been doing more and more in black and white. I think it brings in emotion and drama.

Super entries so far 👍 Here is mine called "Flying Boat". It´s a seaplane of my own design, modelled in Rhino, then inserted in Bryce, finally converted to BW in Paint.NET

This image was generated using Vue. It had very little color in it so I thought I'll try and see how it looks in pure b&w. (I made several watercolor paintings too of this theme, you can see those too in my gallery, links in th e b&w image)

I always felt B&W was a very difficult media, so I rarely do it. Still thought I'd give it a try using V4  and using filters from a plug in called *Virtual Photographer*. I tried various filters and liked this look the best.

Here's a horse of a different color.... or, um, flowers, actually.  Created entirely in Vue; tweaked ever-so-slightly in PhotoShop. Unfortunately, the small size doesn't let you see the textures, which are, in my mind, what makes the arrangement worth looking at! ;-)

Title: Birth Right.

I think Black and white is great personally. Color can be over rated :P

I like space, so I made 3 versions for this.

There's a forum version which is attached here.

A off site version (1280 by 720 JPEG) - CLICK HERE!

As well I have a colored version (I hope it's okay) on my gallery, but I won't link it.

The image is supposed to relay a kind of message. More that Earth is our planet, we are here, born on it, etc.

It relies on us as much as we rely on it.
