Just purchased the DAZ S Adv Bundle. This should be a real interesting week

DaveF ( ) posted Tue, 16 June 2009 at 7:26 AM

Found out this morning when I had a bunch of 3rd-party plugin update emails from Daz. Glad I didn't have to purchase the bundle. I'm already working on setting things up like I had in D|S 2. Now I have new stuff to learn! Sweet!

I have a question. Does the Collada export work now with dynamic cloth in other applications? Like Vue Infinite  and Cinema4d? The dynamic cloth Collada export with 2.2 always crashed before.

and... What version did you prefer Advanced or the Bundle? I have the Dynamic cloth and Animate plus plug-in at the moment.

 Mazak,

I have the Mac version, so the dynamic cloth features are not exactly available for me to use, therefore I cannot answer your question about the Collada exporting capabilities.

Since I already owned the plugins that are included with the bundle, and since all of those plugins were updated and available for download, I opted for the Advanced package.

Hello
I have installed version 3 advanced 64 bits
I hope i will uninstall version 2 when dynamic clothing plugin will be available in 64 bits version
Do you think i can just copy my content folder from version 2 to version 3 and find  in 3 all these stuff already installed in 2 ?? Or i need to reinstall all old stuff from original zip or exe

DaveF ( ) posted Tue, 16 June 2009 at 2:07 PM

If you are planning on deleted version 2 in future anyway, then I would say go for it. All of my 3D content is on an external drive and I keep very little in the program's content folder other than scripts and plugins. You shouldn't have to re-install anything as long as you keep your content folder and its contents intact somewhere on your computer.

NO it wont work and if you have a look at it you know why ..
it uses a Plugin control in DS..
That plugin controller is not part of Vue or any other program ..

You can have both 32 and 64 bit versions installed at once, as well as DS2.

martial ( ) posted Tue, 16 June 2009 at 2:40 PM

Thanks
But if i install both of DS3 :32 bits and 64 bits in two different folders what about the content folder if i don't want duplicate all the stuff ?

martial ( ) posted Tue, 16 June 2009 at 3:52 PM

This 64 bits version is really very  fast for rendering and saving file Big difference with version 2,3 and version 3 demo (Maybe 32 bits)

Aaaaah I just bought the Uber and AhEnvironment IBL's, spot and point shaders,  Camera pointer for D/s 2 about 2 months ago....damn!

3 advanced for $54.00 right now is kind of cool.  but 149.00 regular..eeek thats a little steep for me right now.

I like the 8.5 3delight engine upgrade ,wouldnt mind having that ,and the HDRI uber 2
Looks like im going to have to sell my ass on the corner for 55.00 bucks tonight. :O----<3

RAMWorks ( ) posted Tue, 16 June 2009 at 7:58 PM

64-bit DS3 is kick ass with speed.  You wouldn't believe it.  A scene I rendered not 5 months ago took well over 4 hours in DS2.  In DS3, 64-bit... 5 minutes!!

Also to let everyone know I just got a message from DAZ that the Carrara 7.2 upgrade it live which makes it compatible with DS3.  😄

I just ran a render for a test using the UberEnvironment lighting set at 4XHi quality. In D|S 2, it took a long time to run a render using this lighting. In D|S 3, my Mac Pro spit it out like it was a spot render using no lighting. It took seconds!

I'd start with the software first. Try reinstalling D|S 3 to see if it makes any difference. If not, then it may be your iMac's graphics card.

Here's my specs:

Mac Pro
Two 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processors
4 GB RAM
NVidia Quadro FX 4500 Graphics Card

May be the problem is the Mac version because on my side ,with Vista 64 bits, the render is fast and good

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sat, 20 June 2009 at 11:20 AM · edited Sat, 20 June 2009 at 11:34 AM

Well most of us are using the UberEnvironment 2 lights but the issue with that, if you choose soft shadows is that all things with transparency slows down the renders, horribly, because it's with Occlusion which I didn't tend to use much with DS2 for that very reason.  I'm impatient enough as it is don't need my renders making me nuts.  So I didn't use the UberEniro lights very often.  I stuck with the default lights.

Now there are work arounds to getting the UberEnviro lights with Occulsion w/Soft Shadows to work for you.  There is another folder, it's in the DAZ Built In Content folder under Shaders|Uber|Shaders| !UberSurface Base, What you do is make sure each item is selected in the Scene tab & Surface tab:
select the Hair, apply this shader to it,
select the Eyelashes, apply this shader to it,
select the lacrimals, apply this shader to it,
select any thing that has transparency in it and apply this shader that's going to slow down your render and then scroll down in each item's surface towards the bottom you will see an option to turn Raytracing off or on.  It's on by default.

Now render!!  MUCH faster!!  😄 PITA to get set up esp if you have allot of transparency in the scene but if it's a scene you'll use again and again then save it with these settings in place and you won't have to invest so much time getting it set up next time you want to use it.... 😄

Home Premium, most common version of Vista.  DS3 64bit runs nice and fast on it too!!  😄

Windows 7 RC, just to be difficult. Seems to be working well so far.

redwoodcats ( ) posted Sun, 28 June 2009 at 10:49 AM

I have an updated Graphics card on my computer (Windows Vista), but it is several months old.  Does the DS3 Advanced, and free DS3, versions required a newer card to work properly?  Some are talking about their new DS3 programs responding very slowly.  CellarStudio mentioned to someone to update their graphics card to correct the problem, or reinstalling DS3?  Doesn't Daz3d.com list system requirements for their programs, which includes what type of graphic card is needed to run DS3 properly?  Is their suggestion regarding the most current upgrade for a graphic card?

RAMWorks ( ) posted Sun, 28 June 2009 at 11:13 AM

Really depends on the OpenGL you have.  I think the earliest supported version of that is like 1.5 or something like that.

Here is the Requirements page for DAZ Studio:

Little question, I have tried the free version of DS2 some weeks now. But is it worth to change to DS3? Or is it more for "professionalists" in rendering?

RAMWorks ( ) posted Tue, 30 June 2009 at 10:37 AM

Rendering speed is better in version 3, more options too and improvements.  Worth the upgrade!  Just be aware that we are still waiting on some of the shaders to be updated like Poseworks pwSurface, which is quite popular.
