Hi everybody, I want to start to learn Carrara. But i'm french, and I don't really understand how to use it... Do you know where i can find some tutorials : TO START using this software. Thanks in advance. Best Regards. Niko

kaom ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 6:16 PM

My suggestion for a Carrara newbie? 1. Read the manual thoroughly. 2. Get the Carrara Bible(If you can find it). 3. Read, read, read 4. Practice, practice, practice. 5. I'm not sure but I think there a few good tutorials here at renderosity, in the tutorials section. 6. Maybe litst(the moderator of this forum) can help you out he's in France. 7. When you have a question, post it in this forum, and you will get lots of help from everyone. Good Luck and have fun with it, Carrara will reward you quickly for your work, it's on of the easiest programs to get to know, you'll catch on faster than you think. Enjoy, and welcome to the forum. kaom

The only French I know is Oui=yes. Oh and Brie cheese, mmmmmmmmm good.

twillis ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 7:19 PM

I've learned that "Rue Barre" is French for "Don't drive down that road, you Chucklehead!" Unfortunately, this was learning by Life Experience.

litst ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 8:38 PM

To Terri : "Rue Barre" ? Are you sure it's french ??? And are you sure "chucklehead" is english ? By a matter of fact, i can't find it in my dictionnary . ;) litst

twillis ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 8:45 PM

I'm probably spelling it wrong. It was a "Road Closed" sign. We ended up backing up with a line of cards down one-way streets in Avigon (which I'm also probably spelling wrong).

litst ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 8:50 PM

"Rue barr" and "Avignon", Terri !!! Halala ... How could i translate "Sacr Terri !" in english ? :) litst

twillis ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 8:54 PM

It think it would go, "Learn to spell, you chucklehead." You guys confuse me with all your silent letters. I could read signs a lot better than I could "hear" anything. And I didn't even try to pronounce anything.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 8:58 PM

Sacr Terri? Holy Smokes, Terri!

litst ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 9:03 PM

Okay, so ... Hole smokes, Terri ! Me too i can mispell things !!! >:)

twillis ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 9:07 PM

Hmm... how about... Hole smoces ptery?

kaom ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2001 at 10:46 PM

3D=C'est ma sante. Did I word it right?

litst ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 9:24 AM

"sant, Kaom, with a " ! You can't do this kind of letters on your keyboards, do you ? 9... But that's true, la 3D c'est la sant. 3D is health . Except maybe for a few of us who really get weird in their mind, saying things like "Hole smoces ptery" ... ;)

AzChip ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 10:05 AM

OK, folks -- thanks very much for this; I actually laughed out loud here! And, Litst -- my French is not very good, but am I reading your note to nikoandmarcelus correctly in saying that Eovia has an "antenna" (?) in France that's located in Bordeaux? What's Eovia doing with an antenna in France? I keep my antenna securely hidden inside my skull.... And, yes, we can do the accents here in the US; it's old DOS code, though and not easy.... even the German Portuguese and so on.... I'm kind of used to it, but when I was in Germany in January, I tried using one of their computers, and there are all these extra keys all over the place -- confused me immensely!

litst ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 11:06 AM

Yes, it's in the ASCII code, even if some fonts only have english standard letters . But happily, internet fonts are complete . "antenne" doesn't mean "antenna" in this case ... how could i say ... they got an office in Bordeaux that's related to the main one in San Diego . litst

Tuck3D ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 3:23 PM

Learn Carrara and French at the same time!! I rhink we've stumbled onto something here.

keithw ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 3:39 PM

litst - In English you would say. Eovia has a European branch office in Bordeaux. I envy anybody that knows more than one language. When I was in school all they offered was 2 years of Spanish in High School. Nothing at all in the Elementary and Junior High Schools. Keith

kaom ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 3:48 PM

Most people I know in Amereica can barly speak English correctly. Let alone write with correct grammar. I have friends who can't spell simple words. Your lucky litst, speaking two or more languages is an asset, and I envy you too. kaom P.S. I tried Escargot once and couldn't do it. I couldn't handle it, I was,to say the least-grossed out, but I love "French Fries".

cristianr ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 4:46 PM

I speak Spanish and could almost make out the French postings but it helps to know what they are talking about. French is really a cool language. It sounds so nice specially if spoken by a beautiful girl. :)

kaom ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 7:43 PM

Oh great , now you had to bring up beautiful French girls!

rezman ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 9:22 PM

BabelFish says... ils ont obtenu un bureau en Bordeaux qui est lile principal San Diego.

litst ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 10:15 PM

Yes, speaking two languages is great . But really, it's hard to pass by english when you're european . I've had a great teacher that learned me the basis very well . Mrs Proux . I own that to her . Hey Kaom, forget about french girls : they all incredibly ugly !!! Okay, maybe not ;) litst

kaom ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 11:04 PM

My fiance is French of origin and she's beautiful. I don't believe you. You're lying so you can keep them all to yourself (LOLOLOLOL). kaom

rockjockjared ( ) posted Fri, 13 July 2001 at 11:15 PM

Kaom if you're in the states you should check out Texas girls :) Oh, about the other languages, in High School I took Latin (boy was I dumb!) It helps me with some french, Spanish, and other language roots...but it's hard to find a latin speaking person! About all I learned was Utre Capite - Use your head...(and I probably spelled that wrong as is!) Jared

litst ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 10:22 AM

Hmmm ... I don't think i would exchange two drums of Texas girls against my drum of French girls, rockjockjared :) One more thing ... Kaom, you were talking about "escargots" ( snails ) . I never could eat one of those ... They're so friendly ! The other day, a snail came into the house . We began to play together, and he became my buddy . For a short time unfortunately : my mother stepped on it by mistake ... Poor buddy :( Happily, i've got this pic left to remember the good times we had together ! But the most friendly escargot around is probably Escargot Visualware ! They used to make great plug-ins for RDS . I don't have the link anymore, sorry . What do you want, there's a time you got to get back to 3D ! :) litst

That's true, it's the national day here ! Thanks Nancy . Too bad i've missed the fireworks yesterday cause it was raining . One thing i haven't miss ( but i wish i had ) is the speech of our president !... Well, it was fun in a way ... litst

Happy Holidays! Cheddar for everyone! Huzzah!

kaom ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 5:51 PM

MMMMMMM I love cheddar! What do the French think of cheddar litst? Do you guys like it? In America, cheddar is like a religion to some people, I'm one of them. I love French cheese's too. That and Eggs Benedict. Now I'm hungry. Once I finish my Bloody Mary I'll have to go get some French food at McDonalds. Are French fries really French? Do you guys eat them over there? Jst wondering. kaom

litst ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 7:59 PM

OH NO !!! One cheddar addict was enough ! Kaom, if you really want to know what i'm thinking about this ... hmm ... cheese ... i suggest to do a search in the archives of this forum . litst

twillis ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 8:20 PM

Don't listen to litst, kaom. He's obviously in denial about the BEST CHEESE IN THE WORLD. Hmmm. Now I'm in the mood to whip up a batch of Cheddar-Garlic biscuits. MMMMmmmm.

rockjockjared ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 8:28 PM

I like cheddar too! especially the kind in a can :) goes great with "Chicken In A Biskit" ! Maybe that's just a poor ghetto snack though...but it's good! French cheeses are good too...except for some of the really smelly ones!

kaom ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 8:59 PM

Chees in a can is awsome. Chicken in a biscut crackers rule, they're one of my favorites. Yum! Ghetto food, I love it. My real weakness is Beef Jerkey and Doritos with an ice cold beer(Molson Lager). I could live off this stuff. The only chees I hate is limburger, have you ever smelled that stuff? It smells like sweaty socks, No thank you. Everything goes better with cheddar! LOL kaom

rockjockjared ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2001 at 2:37 AM

Kaom <-- have you tried the bar-b-que flavor? I'm more old fashioned...I stick to the original :-) I've never smelled limburger...doesn't even sound good to me! I'm more partial to colby-jack and of course cheddar! Especially Sharp Cheddar :) I can feel litst's angry stares! Let's just hope he doesn't unleash the beast!

rockjockjared ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2001 at 2:52 AM

and a belated Happy Bastile Day to all of our French members!

litst ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2001 at 12:23 PM

I won't comment those heretic words anymore ... ... ... ... Cheese in a CAN ??? WHAT ? We make WOOD packages for the Camembert so that it can keep all its flavor and grow old naturally ... cheese in a can !... Please tell me i'm having a bad dream ! Also, just one thing and then i stop . I do think that it's socks that smells like good cheese and not the contrary ! Have you though of that, hey ? Well, think about it ! ;) litst

twillis ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2001 at 12:42 PM

Ha. I have a dog-training friend who SWEARS by Cheese in a Can. She uses it to teach puppies to heel. So yeah, EZ Cheez is real, and not just some wonderful dream, Litst.

AzChip ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2001 at 10:08 AM

Personally, I think that EZ cheese is hilarious. While I don't share Litst's hatred for all things cheddar, I do think cheese should be as natural as possible in this modern world of ours. A nice hunk of sharp Wisconsin Cheddar is heaven, as can be havarti, brie, or even -- yes, it's true -- limburger. (I'll admit that limburger is better when you can't smell it, but it's still good under the right circumstances.) And what about those beautiful french boys?
