Greetings and Salutations,

I'm having a problem with getting clothing morphs to match body morphs. It may just be that I don't have too much knowledge working with this aspect of P6.  I understand that there are dials for most morphs, but i think I'm having difficulty understanding the concept. Is there a way to copy body morphs to clothing morphs, so the cloth fits whatever body morphs I've chosen? I have a lot of FRAD characters and RebelMommy characters but sometimes, once I apply the cloth to the body there are parts that don't fit fluidly. What I am missing? this applies to both V3 and V4. I am using P6 and WINXP

Lighting question: Is there a way to change the shape of lights. For example when using " distance begin, The smaller the dial, it creates a circular shape. I'd like to create more of a square or oblong shape that covers both eyes and the bridge of the nose only. I have enclosed a sample of a render. This looks like raccoon eyes and not the effect I am trying to create. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks in Advance,
Viper

Lights: I'm pretty sure that you can apply a gobo (alpha map) to Poser lights, but I can't test it for another couple hours. Try loading an alpha channel and connect it to....intensity?

A couple things.  First is make sure the cloth you are using has all the body morphs your character is using.  A lot only have a limited number of body morphs they work with.    Second is depending on your dialed morph numbers, not all morphs work perfectly well with each other.  Third is you need to check you clothing item to see if it has fit morphs or JCMs to tweak it with.

Online Now!

This is the answer I suggested to a similar recent query about clothing fit.

You can use any kind of procedural or image-based material as a light gel.

Here's a simple example using an IBL region transmap image. Having made your image, you can scale and position it using the UV scale and offset dials.

Another example using a procedural 'blinds' shader I made....

Let me know when u test that. Then if you could send me instructions on how to create one, that would make me very happy.

Fantastic info. Am purchasing "morphing tool"  Thank you soooo much.

Please forgive my ignorance on "procedural material". Can u tell me how to create one of these?

Thank u Sooooo much All,

There's really nothing to forgive. :O)

A 'procedural' material is simply one which uses the various shader nodes available in the Advanced Material Room to create a texture without using any image maps.

For example, the 'blinds' shader I showed above consists of 13 shader nodes plugged into the spotlight's diffuse colour channel. It's effectively a procedural trans map for the light. The shader is based on a vertical gradient node, and the rest of the nodes control the number of repeats and the relative thickness of the light and dark bands.

By the way, my first example was doing exactly what replicand suggested - attaching a transparency map to a light.

I've attached the image that I used -- you can download it to somewhere in your Runtime and attach it to a light as in my first example. Make sure you set up the parameters of the Image_Map node the same as I did, and you should get exactly the same results.

You will need to adjust the spotlight spread to suit - I used Angle_Start 40 and Angle_End 50. This gives a 40 degrees full light beam with a 5 degrees "fade to nothing" around the outside.

(edit) I should have noted that the above image is courtesy of olivier over at RDNA.

Here is a transmap you can use to get a square area of light. Because Poser spotlights rotate an attached map by 45°, the image has been rotated by 45°. If you don't want the light to fall off towards the edge of the square, set the Angle Start of the light to about 100.0.

Really? In my versions of Poser (7 and Pro) the light pattern comes out exactly as it appears in the material room. The spotlight itself is not rotated.

Because you are using the map to control intensity and not transparency I would call it an intensity map.  After all, if you plugged that into a bump node or a specular node it would be called a bump map or a specular map  and not a transparency map.

This is perfect. The render is coming along sooooooo nice. Is it ok to notify you when I post?
