Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 08 9:27 am)
I'm fairly positive that some industious programmer could write a program to automatically create meta-data for each item. For instance, look at PzDB from Rocketship Software. It creates a DB that you can search for items, and it will bring up all related items. That is of course if it indexed it correctly. Say you search for V4, it will bring up Victoria 4, clothes, poses, characters, etc. It does have other items that don't relate so it isn't perfect; but it does do a pretty good job.
Keep in mind I am only using PzDB as an example that something along these lines might be possible.
Quote - I didn't say they wouldn't work. I'm just saying that adding metadata to over 100gig's worth of runtimes is one job I don't look forward to doing personally.
All a moot point because the feature does not seem to exist, but even if it did nobody's saying you'd have to stop everything and tag every file in all your runtimes.
Quote - Probably much the same, because these features come with greatly increased render time - worth it to me, but I bet not to a lot of the "usual suspects". There are already a few different ways to avoid nose glow but it's still there in 3/4 of gallery pics.
I agree, in fact, I know I wont be waiting +2hours of rendertime using GI on each one of my renders, specially since I love comic-style compositions that require A LOT of renders for a page. But I do belive there will be an overal upgrade in the gallery.
Pretty amazing to have that power when you do want to get this kind of quality though.
One thing sells me right away, the improved content library bill is working on, for ME its the most important feature. Search engine, oh yeah upgrade time for me.
I know this could be irrelevant given the interface changes but, one thing that always bugged me was not being able to rename/move items, and even more, I really really wanted a right click feature on the library for things like "open with, open location, properties, etc". And python could never solve that problem either since there was no real connection to the library.
Anyway, I just read the whole thread from post 1 in one sit, taking a break now =P
Quote - I'm more interested in the upgrade cost. Smith Micro recently released a new version of Anime Studio Pro and the upgrade cost was like 75% of the base price. Needless to say, I didn't bite.
I wouldn't either
For me control, lighting and rendering are most important, the Gi looks good but I have Vue, so What I really want is memory usage on all renders and Cheep Vray in poser!,,,,, Yea that it please!......
Well, I'm very excited by the examples BB has been so nice to demonstrate for us! I very much would love to have this program on my laptop right now! I just hope the learning curve for the new bells and whistles isn't too high. If you have more examples BB, I'd love to see them.

agree with all of that Latexluv!!!!
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Oh, yes, I'm intimidated by having to learn a new lighting system where IBL isn't the end all for a good render and I'm not sure if my poor laptop can run this beast. But I am used to some renders taking four or five hours as it is now. So maybe it won't be that big a drag on my computer. I just would like to have my hands on this thing right now. But its probably months away. sigh

There's a huge difference in render times: 1' 28" for the first, 7' 43" for the second.
Hopefully this feature is considerably improved in Poser 8.

Talk about render times....has anyone checked out this new product. Look what they can render in seconds compared to hours. Truly amazing.
Just wish the price was little lower. The speed is based on the DirectX technology using the GPU for added speed. GPU rendering is going to be the next major leap in 3D as it will cut down on render time dramatically.

These type products pop up from time to time promising "real time renders" but I haven't seen one that delivers. Either it isn't really a "real time render" for some reason or isn't any where near the quality Poser can produce.
I hope it works, but I won't hold my breath.

I just downloaded the script file from D3D. Unfortunately the version in your link is without the GI option. How long have you had it? No mention of GI is made on the D3D site.
Yes, same here. Unless it's the pay version.
Interesting though cspear.

- globalIllu: when set to 1 or 2, you can set global illumination parameters; this
is a hidden feature in Poser 7; if GI is on (i.e. intensity is different from 0)
you need to turn on raytracing, otherwise Poser might crash; the GI bounces only
work in Poser 7 SR3, hence set globalIllu to 2 for SR3, otherwise to 1.*But be warned, GI really slows things down, and if using transmapped hair, be prepared for a long wait!
Thanks, I'll give it a try.

No kidding! Good thing I have a fast Quad. I read that it would take around twelve Cray XMP super computers from 20 years ago to get the thirty GFLOPS together! It'd be interesting to see if render times correlate with how much other, maybe more important, stuff gets done around the house!

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Mmmm. I don't want to do screen shots without explicit permission.

Bill, quick question: when you measure render time, do you start the clock after all the textures have finished loading and the shadow-maps have been generated and all that? Because if you'd already had the base colourMaps loaded into memory from before, your shader doesn't cost that much time, does it? It never did me...

I start a render and abort it once the textures are loaded and it knows them all. Then I start the timed render.

Heheh. It's just one among many, many buttons you need not push if you don't want to. It doesn't do anything unless you click it, right?
I never go into the Setup room, yet its presence doesn't offend me in any way.

well, I enjoy seeing these renders, anyway. those wishing to remove the content room from previous versions may try netherworks' site to see if the no-content-paradise.pdf is still available, but it was for poser 5, which had other problems compared to later versions IMVHO. perhaps they'll be able to post GUI details and pricing after siggraph.
Quote - Well I can assure you that it is an annoyance to the many of us who have hacked it out of our current copies of Poser.
You didn't answer my question. I'll ask it again.
It doesn't do anything unless you click it, right?
Second question: how is it an annoyance exactly? My point was there are lots of buttons you don't use. Why does this one, and this one alone, annoy you? Just curious. I don't really mind if you rip it out, although I suppose CP does. :)

But I already explained that that it isn't initialized unless you click it. I assure you, it consumes zero memory and zero CPU until you use it. Just because you hack/hide the button doesn't remove it from the application. It's still there.

Since you don't rig, it may be that you've never hit the Content button by accident, but I can assure you it does do something when you DO click it, even by accident, and that something is pretty annoying (it's right next to the Setup room tab).

Hello, eveybody is so booked away on the GI.
What about the new population?
Figures, characters, poly count?
Did they remember the animators?
Or fall in the same zillion poly trap?
Hair?
Clothes?
Just talking, basic contents? ? ? ?
Thanks for reading.

If they do it that way it would certainly make things easier. The content creators could even offer the metadata as updates that way. Hell, even users could share the meta data files to make things easier. As long as the Metadata files could be written in a way that didn't require the CR2, PZ2 etc file be in a certain location to be recognised. I'm sure I'm not the only one who reorganises my runtimes when I install things.
