Subject: P8 : Perfectly clean install. No errors. Program opens and closes so fast!

I especially love all the facial expressions accessible right in the parameter dials.  Very cool!

Alyson is extremely responsive.  I started out with Maria.  Can't wait to get into the face room
and explore all the rest of the content as well as add more.

Also, when the installer gave me the option of where to place the program, I just used
the first one, the default one, I guess.  I saw a question or potential problem with that
somewhere.

The work space is a little more crowded than I'm accustomed to with P7, but that's no
big deal.  Just a matter of getting used to it.

One thing though.  Please?  Anyone?  How the heck do I get rid of Andy so the preview
window opens without him?  I forget how somebody told me to do that in P7 to get rid of
Simon.

Alright.  Congratulations Team Poser on a terrific launch and thank you!

Hopefully it is still the same as Poser 7.  Go to Edit on the main menu and select General Preferences.  Then click on the “Set Preferred State” button to make the current setup the default

I can confirm that it is the same within Poser 8. Just delete handy Andy from the scene.... set up things like the base lights you prefer... alter / change around any of the menu pallettes as you like... then click 'Set Preferred State' and 'Launch to Preferred State'.

Each time you restart... you will have a 'clean slate' as you desire.

program opening ... if you have a huge runtime, does it still open fast?
My P6 is a dog with my current runtime..takes like 5 minutes to open.

The new library opens instantly. It will load up stuff in the background - you don't have to wait. It also only loads stuff you've looked at in the past. If you close folders before terminating, it will load faster next time.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

this P8 gets better all the time. other than a few little things folks have noticed so far, it appears, although its early, that things are pretty stable with no real show stoppers.
I remember P5 ... wow..wasn't that something.

You know, I never bought Poser 5 because of the tremendous cries of outrage...lol. I just waited until 6 came out ;o). Poser community opinion weighs heavily in my decisions to buy or not to buy a particular version. I read the responses to the new program and use that to determine whether it's something I really need/want or not.

Poser 8 is working really good for me.  I have a big monitor so things aren't crowed at all for me.  I'm so glad that I upgraded my RAM two weeks ago. I have 2.5 GB RAMs and Poser 8 gives me 1 minute renders.  You can check out some of my Poser 8 travels at PoserByDesign.com

Poser 8 makes up for all of the other versions that I purchased. 4, 5, 6, 7, and Pro.   The content management system is awesome too. It's about time they  fixed that problem.  The best thing is that the content management system isn't the biggest improvement.

Can you believe it? 1 minute rendering times on Poser.

A tip on working with the new P8 figures... In the head actor are many sculpting morphs that are categorized by facial region. These are in addition to the expression morphs and the ethnicity morphs (which can be blended as well). Plus the figures' heads can be even further sculpted in with the face room shaping tool.

Hi!  Thanks for the tips!  I'm a freak for the face room.  Love it.  Probably too much.  Every
time I create a new character I want a new hair for her too.  LOL.

Also, I think it's so freaking cool how you guys -- yourself, Bill, and probably so many others
I don't know about -- interact with your customers / fellow users.  That speaks volumes
about this product and your team.  IMHO.  Thanks.

Please though?  One suggestion?  I swear I would pay half the price of the program for
an add-on or plug-in or whatever which would enable the user to be able to apply
makeup right inside Poser.  It just seems so logical.  It's the only thing missing for me.

Alright.  Thanks again!

Damn, but I wish I had a job right now and could afford the upgrade. Not to serious of bugs out of the gate, and faster -- I love faster :)

Must stop reading forums and go render something in P7 (which has been good). Oh well, maybe I'll be able to get it for Christmas.

Interesting, do you mean real makeup? Or some kind of "MS paint" makeup?

It's not the tool used, it's the tool using it

ZigZag321 ( ) posted Thu, 06 August 2009 at 2:26 PM

Hi.

I'm really lousy with the terminology, but I mean something like this.

Let's say we're in the face room.  There we would have the option to add eyeliner.  Shadow.
Blush.  And I know we can already change the lip color in there so it just seems like a
natural progression to me to add makeup in there too.

I think that would be great and so simple.

Of course, maybe it's just as simple for other users to use PhotoShop or Gimp or
whatever, but I just think it would be very convenient and logical to have that capability
right inside Poser.

ZigZag321 ( ) posted Thu, 06 August 2009 at 2:27 PM

PS ... Oops.

I meant the material room for lip color.

TZORG ( ) posted Thu, 06 August 2009 at 6:32 PM

Well, lips usually have their own material zone whereas other makeup destinations don't. (Except for the inside of the nostrils, if you put makeup up there.)

So we'd need figures with more material zones on their faces, or else some completely different mechanism than what we have for lips now.

It's not the tool used, it's the tool using it

ZigZag321 ( ) posted Thu, 06 August 2009 at 7:27 PM

Ahhh.  I didn't know any of that.  Thanks.

Maybe if they would include a separate head texture with a makeup palette right in the
material room?  Like the way the makeup kits you can buy come with a head texture.
I think I bought a Sydney one last year like that.  Or maybe V4.

But that seems like a simpler solution maybe?
