Subject: Poser/DS materials

tlc ( ) posted Tue, 28 July 2009 at 6:29 PM · edited Tue, 05 November 2024 at 10:38 PM

Some while back, I remember seeing a thread about conversion rates between Poser and DS's material properties, I think it was at DAZ but it might have been here. Can't find it now anywhere...

This will probably appeal more to the merchants, as I have just about finished writing a Poser Mat Creator for DS3 (it's currently in beta in the DAZ Studio Discussion forum). About all I need are the conversion factors.

Does anybody else remember or have a link to that thread, or even can anybody pass on the conversion rates please?

that sounds really great.  I think it was probably at daz forums that I once saw something about this.

Hi there

I was looking for similar information and after a couple of days I've come up with the following link

http://www.calida3d.com/tutorials2.shtml

Was this the one you were looking for?

Attached Link: Poser Material Filespec

It's a pleasure.

Have you come across the attached link - there are more pages describing further poser file information but this link is specific to materials

http://www.kuroyumes-developmentzone.com/poser/poserfilespec/material.html

I'd be interested if anybody knows of a similar resource describing DS shader/material files.

Regards
Andy

Yes, I've known of that site for some time now, and no, I haven't seen anything similar for DS...

Remember that most of a DS preset, of any kind, is script for applying the settings. the actual values tend to be stored at the end in a form that pretty much matches what you see in the Surfaces palette (for basic shaders, if you are looking at a surface with a Shader Mixer-generated shader applied it is a bit more cryptic).

Don't I know it ;) In CPM I had to recreate all that coding before getting anywhere near the actual settings and I'm gonna have to do it again for DS2 & DS3 for the poser to DS Mat converter...

THAT one I'm really looking forward too as well!!  If you can pull this off you will be cheered loudly!!  You know how many folks have wanted to make use of some of those mc6 Poser files??

I've been taking a rest from coding this week, due to the meds. But I have been looking more closely at how I'm gonna do it. Pity DS has not got translucency without an addon like PW (please correct me if I'm wrong), though DS3's shader "room" might do it. Anyways, I'm gonna start coding on Friday ;)

I did have on question about the Partial MAT VS MAT File in your script.  When creating a .ds MAT file for DS2 can either of these options be used depending on whether it's a full MAT or a Partial MAT or should I just choose the Mat file radio button and use the Ctrl select in the Object Materials list to have it create a partial MAT??

Thanks much! 😄  Hope you get to feeling better!

Yes, Shader Mixer has translucency.

Yup, should be able to have partials for DS ( I thought you guys had tested CPM! ;)  ). If it's not working lemme know and I'll fix it.

thx RW, I've been on these meds for a month and they just sap my concentration/focus. That's why I wanted beta-testers for CPM as I'm miising stuff and just haven't got the patience right now to test stuff.

CPM is finished and available here, I haven't got any of tabala's sets, but it should work okay.
