Subject: Dynamic Cloth in Daz Studio

What happened to the thread on Dynamic Cloth in DS?  I have a customer asking why Rendo marketplace dynamic cloth doesn't work in DS and I wanted to refer them to it.

Don't know about the thread but the answer is simple: Dynamic Clothing for Poser is specific to Poser. No support is available in any other applications. Same for dynamic hair.

They are supposedly working on a plugin that will allow for content creation and I think, iirc, that this particular plugin will allow folks to bring in Poser dynamic clothing and convert it to DAZ Dynamic..... looks like it's going to be a while.  Hell, they still haven't released on stick of clothing for the males so I'm done until that's happening.  Nice idea but I don't work with females much and well, I know dynamics CAN work with the male figure, most of the time but they are WOMEN'S clothing and most of it just doesn't look right on M4!! LOL

It would be nice if Daz would makeDynamic Cloth limitations point clear to their studio users.

Here is the skinny: no Poser dynamic cloth or dynamic hair. The Dynamic cloth pluging in Studio works only with pre-made OptiTex products, you cannot create new dyncloth or apply the plugin to existing conforming clothing. A new plugin for the creation of dynamic clothing is in the works. IN addition the Dynamic Cloth plugin for Studio is Windows only, no Mac OS version is available.
Hope this helps.

Poser dynamic cloth is just a general dynamics engine, so although the results won't be the same (and settings certainly can't be exchanged) the models should be usable in any application with a similar engine - which is most of the full-service suites, at least (LW certainly has dynamics). Hair is more specialised, and so doesn't generally go from one application to another (unless you are using a plugin that exists for more than one application, and there's file compatibility. DS's clothing simulator is more specialised - it has a model of how the clothing is put together, rather than simply treating the mesh as flexible, which is why it needs special tools and why its models can't be used directly in other application s(though you can export an OBJ and use it with a generalised dynamics engines, such as Poser's cloth room).

I guess I wasn't clear enough.  Sorry!  I wish I had access to different app dynamic cloth rooms to test out what I mean.

I didn't mean that a dynamic cloth that is animated in Poser should be able to be applied to another apps animation.  I realize all dynamic engines operate differently.

I was under the impression that a static dynamic cloth object made up of quads or tris was and should be able to be manipulated in any apps dynamic cloth room and used in that app that has a dynamic cloth room.

I would like to create dynamic cloth objects that will work in any or most dynamic cloth engines and am trying to get a handle and understanding of the workings in dynamic cloth rooms.

Are other apps dynamic cloth rooms able or not able to handle a static dynamic cloth object and animate it or do they need specialized software to create them?

Does C4D, LW, Max etc do this or are these apps only able to handle static dynamic cloth objects created only in the specific app?

I am hoping most clothing creators would be interested in this information.

I hope this is a little clearer on what I mean.

Pappy, I don't know about Max, LW or C4D but Blender's dynamic cloth system will take any object, imported for example as .OBJ, and it will calculate dynamics with collisions, forces etc. It's actually very good. But be prepared to use a rather beefy machine for it if you want to calculate dyncloth against V4 or other high-poly models.

Or use a low poly proxy and collide against that :)

The confusion seems be coming from the words 'dynamic' and 'cloth'.  The proper name for Poser's, and many other 3d apps cloth sims is Soft Body Collision.  Studio's cloth sim is based on a system used the fashion industry.  Clothing models are generated from the same patterns used to create the real world clothing.

So, just to be clear, there is no current way to make dynamic clothing for D|S 2&3? Question 2, did Daz ever release any freebie clothing that I'm not aware of? I'd like to test it before I soak down any cash on D|S 3 advanced, and more clothing packs.

There was a free tablecloth that was used for other things like draped over a body for artistic and modesty purposes.  Be aware that there is only a 32bit Dynamic Cloth engine available at this time for DAZ Studio.  The 64 bit version is in development, at least that's what we were told.

Next is the MAC version, then the Windows 64 bit version and then I think we get the Dynamic Cloth creation plugin... yea, I'd check back in a couple of years or so at this rate!!

OK, so Dynamic clothing is a bust as far as I'm concerned then. I can't see soaking down cash for DS specific stuff, when I can make it and use Posers cloth room.
