YouTube transcode whatever you feed to H.264. Your best option is to use H.264 or MP4. In that way there will be no transcoding and the image quality will be preserved.

Quote - How do I do that in Daz. The closest I could find is compressor "Microsoft H.263 Video Codec" but then I get an error ("can not be initialized").
Best to render to image files instead of to video. Assemble the image files in an video/compositing app, then render to the h.264 codec. I never rever video directly out of any 3D app.

Yes, every animation is usually rendered to sequence of images. If you use QT Pro you can then open the sequence and convert it to a movie and export it to H.264. If you don't have an NLE then it's time to download Blender and use its Sequence Editor to generate the movie. From Blender you'll be able to export to QuickTime H.264 which will be just fine for YouTube.
If this sound complicated, well, nothing about video production is easy, nothing :)

Pjotter, sorry but I'm not clear about what Daz had missed? Just to be completely clear, when I said that nothing about video production is easy I meant it in general. If you are involved with any video production, regardless of the tools, you will need to get into a seriously steep learning curve. Studio is actually a very decent software, especially for free. BTW, are you able to generate the video as a sequence as suggested?

What I miss, is the export to H.264 option. Daz 3 is pretty new and H.264 is very common. Even the lower standard like 2.63 and lower do not work. These are available, but I get an error.
Probably I can figure out how to use sequence images, but I think I take the lower quality within Daz for this project. This is costing me too much time. And I have to solve one other thing. In Daz I sync animation with music and I have to redo that also again.
The codecs available are not part of DAZ Studio. They depend on what you have installed. For example, QuickTime before version 7 didn't include H.264. Studio interfaces with what you have installed on your computer. It sound like you might have some issues with the media software that you have installed. If you provide your OS and video format that you are trying to use we might be able to narrow down the solution.

Have you installed Quicktime? If you install it you will have the option to export to QT and you'll be able to use h.264

Export/Save is the same thing.
The free QT does save files, the Pro version adds a few features but if you have QT then you can save the movies as QT files and H.264 is included. If Studio doesn't interface QT properly then the solution is to render as frame sequence, load the frame sequence in a NLE like FCP, Premiere or even the Sequence Editor of Blender and then export it as a QT file with H.264 or MPEG4 codec.

Bit stuck on the codecs. Some codecs are a way better as others. Intel Indeo is sharper in image and smaller in size as Cinepak for instance. But I found this at Wikepedia: "Indeo is not supported and is not compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7 or any Windows 64-bit operating system."
Does this mean YouTube visitors with that software cannot access it?
What is the best way to get my 640 x 360 movie on YT. It has to be sharp and not to big to download for the viewers. I know, I can't have it all, but what is the closest option?
