Subject: stand alone character reacting with other characters

santolina-sailor ( ) posted Fri, 23 October 2009 at 11:50 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 11:01 PM

Hello,

I have 4 characters---Victoria 3----two bears called ruf and the other Rik----- and a stand alone character Murphy.

Heres the problem----If I load in to a clean scene--no props.victoria and the two bears I can articulate all of the characters and pose them as I wish.

Now if i then select the character Murpy and load him into the scene ive described above I imeadiatley get the Microsoft warning (crashing program now }}now and the scene is gone.

Now through a process of elimination I have found that the cause is Murpy and the bear Ruf

Murphy works fine alone and with Vic--Rik characters'and any other character

Ruf  and rik work fine

.the bears come from the same stable'

Iv never had this experience before.

The problem began with the instalation of ,and loading to scene Murphy

What on earth could be causing this.

look in the cr2 files and see if they appear the same as far as body part names. It sounds like it could be a severe case of crosstalk.

the .cr2 will ( or should) be found in the 'Characters' folder in the library

 Open the file(s) in a text editor. Wordpad is fine if you're on Windows, Notepad++ is even better.

Then compare the body part names and see if they're the same - chances are that they are.

you can then opt to alter the names of all bodyparts by adding some4thing, like A or 01 or whatever to them all and see if that fixes it. (so lForearm becomes lForearm01 as an example)

It's tedious but not impossible.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Crosstalk used to be a much bigger problem and it was supposed to be fixed. (I think)
I seem to remember the order of loading figures was important to minimize crosstalk, so if you know one of your bears work ok with the Murphy figure load all others , then bear then Murphy. It might work.

Trekkie has given the perfect solution, but its very tedious cause theres lots of body parts.

A crz can be uncompressed with winrar and then opened with a text editor.

santolina-sailor ( ) posted Sat, 24 October 2009 at 3:01 PM

Thank you for that ,
be so kind as to explain the proceedure for me.

just rename the file extension on any compressed Poser file to .zip and use any file compression program like WinRar, WinZip, 7Zip etcetra and unzip them. Compressed Poser files that you do this to are as follows:
.obz=.obj
.fcz=.fc2
.crz=.cr2
.pzz=.pz2
.ppz=.pp2
....................get the picture?

Just a wild guess on the crosstalk thing. Make sure you don't have a character selected when you load the new one, click on the background first. That way it won't know which one the morphs should follow.
