"This tut is for beginners who would like to learn how to create and use UV maps in Poser."
Considering that there are quite a lot of people here who don't even seem to understand WHAT a UV Map is (They seem to think that it's absolutely synonymous with the Mesh itself) , I'd suggest that your first Tut should first begin by explaining that a UV Map is how a Mesh Object reads a Texture Mat.
I only mention this because I still remember the hostility and ignorance that I encountered when I first began remapping Posette, Dork, and Victoria 4.

1. Poser - Export the object from Poser to a Wavefront OBJect file (.obj)
UVMapper - Load the "Model" (.obj) file into UVMapper
UVMapper - Create the UV map in UVMapper
UVMapper - Save the "Model" from UVMapper
UVMapper - Save the "Texture Map*" from UVMapper
*(note - UVMapper calls it a Texture Map but we call it a UV Map)
(because we have not "textured" it yet)
"Paint" - Load the UV Map ("Texture Map" from UV Mapper) into a "Paint" program
"Paint" - "Paint" on the UV Map to create the Texture Map
"Paint" - Save the Texture Map from the Paint program
9. Poser - Load the Texture Map into Poser and apply it to the prop object or figure
These are the basic steps to produce a texture map for something in Poser.
Next ...
We will create a new simple "Model" (prop object) using UVMapper.
Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"

Doc, not to get all technical but you should change those "in Poser"s to "for Poser"s. Poser has some simplistic UV creation tools built in (see the grouping tool) that I honestly thought you were going to try and explain . Since the actual creation of the UV's in your tutorial require leaving Poser - and let's face it, for UV's worth their salt, you need to do that - the "in Poser" is misleading.

re: the Grouping Tool's "Create Perspective UVs" button ... I plan to cover that in nauseating detail later on. :biggrin: ... Ok?:blink: ... Ok.

**2. In UVMapperPro, what you call a 'Texture Map' is refered to as a Template, and is simply a portrait of whatever part of the UV map is currently visable, saved as bitmap file.
Here's how I remap a figure:
Here you see my remap of Miki 2 so far. I always remap by halves, and here you can see how I've just completed remapping the right side of Miki's Body (on the left side of the pic).

I prefer to call them Templates I think it is less confusing. UVMapper Classic calls them Texture Maps while UVMapper Pro calls them Templates. This can cause great confusion with new users. I’ve seen several people who are just getting started and using UVMapper Classic refer to Texture maps as UV Maps. So when they start asking questions it takes us experience uses sometime to figure out that when they are writing “UVMap” they are not writing about the models UVMapping but are writing about Texture maps.

Then we can go back into Poser (I'm using P7) to "Import" (load) and look at our "Model" box that we just created in UVMapper.

You have a good point and it would appear that there is some possible confusion concerning what we are referring to when it comes to UV/texture maps.
I agree that the term "template" is a good name to use for the initial map so from here on, I shall try to remember to refer to the initial map ... as the UV template (map) and the colored or painted on map as the "texture map" or *"image map" * because that is the name Poser uses in the Material Room where we go to apply the "map."

I love your tuts Doc. You always put some serious effort into them. Sorry about your computer. When you finish this up, I want to link to it from the UV Mapping Forum. It gets lonely over there sometimes.
Oh, and I think you should be working with a square workspace in UVMC. It makes things come out better. Especially if you map everything using the "Scale Result" option.

What do ya want...how about the ins and outs of the textture/template/UV map (you name here)....when should you make it big and when should you make it small. Is there a relationship between the model size and the template size you create.
