Subject: How Do I Make Use of OBP File?

Enivob ( ) posted Sun, 15 November 2009 at 7:51 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 6:53 AM

Hi All,

I have Bryce 6.0 and I downloaded a obp file from sharecg. I am using Windows and the icon for the obp seems to be associated with Bryce. But I can not figure out how to use the file? Bryce will not open, merge or import obp files. I have double clicked it and Bryce complains it is not a valid file. But I have downloaded several different models from sharecg and they all fail to open. I can't believe they are all broken files.

How do I make use of this file type?

Thanks!

For obp files, (psst... it's an **ob**ject **p**reset file for Bryce), it has to be placed in the preset/objects folder of Bryce; or use the Preset Manager within Bryce for that as shown above.

Hey Bryster, Can we make this reply into a stickie or a FAQ?

I really think the question was how to get it in Bryce?poss wrong but what the heck.
Speaking of OBP files how do you get one that you made out of Bryce to give others?

*Speaking of OBP files how do you get one that you made out of Bryce to give others?

*Create your object.
Create new catagory in the Bryce create dropdown.
Save/add your object.
Go to the Objects folder in the Bryce folder.
Your new object/obp will be in the catagory you created.
Send to others, boyfriend, girlfriend, give one to your mom.

More help for Byce impaired user please.

I have downloaded "Damaged Engine.obp" from sharecg.com. I unzipped the file and placed the obp file in folder "C:Program FilesDAZBryce 6Presets". I click on create and nothing shows up, I just see a bunch of black squares. I restart Byce, the same thing.

You can place the OBP anywhere and browse for it using the IMPORT option in the create catalogue drop-down.

Bryster,  it might be explained that "import object" in the "file" drop down menu is not the same or correct step you are describing by using the import that is in the "Create" GUI menu.  It is two different animals.

It confused me for the longest time also.

I'll see about making a tut for this.

Bryce uses a particular kind of object file called .OBP If you wish to add an .OBP file to your Create Catalogue then you need to import it following these instructions. There are other ways, but for the purposes of this tut I'll stick to the 'one at a time' method. If you have downloaded an .OBP object make sure you have unzipped or unrar-ed it (if necessary) and that you know where it is. You can place it anywhere you like on your hard-drive.

Load up your version of Bryce - this works for all versions.
Look to the top of the work place and you will see 3 tags. CREATE - EDIT - SKY&FOG
Next to each of these is a small and barely visible triangle.
Click the triangle next to the CREATE tag.
This opens your OBP catalogue. If you haven't got any objects in your catalogue or at least in the sub-catalogue you can see, there will be nothing but black squares on it. If you have got objects you will see them. Black squares simply mean that the locations are empty. If they are white then you have problems which I won't go into here.

At the bottom of the catalogue you will see the following tags: ADD DELETE IMPORT EXPORT.
Click on the IMPORT tag. (White arrow)
This will bring up a browse box and you can use this to locate your .OBP object.
Select your .OBP object and it will appear in one of the black boxes!
You can now select that box by just clicking on it and then clicking on the tick mark (Red Arrow)on the far bottom right.
Your new .OBP object will appear on your workplace ready for use.

*"". I click on create and nothing shows up, I just see a bunch of black squares. I restart Byce, the same thing."

*This seems like a new install of Bryce which has never had the content installed yet to me...have you run the content .exe files which came with your version, or should have been downloaded at the same time, as Bryce was. That should fill up the black squares in the Create Menus except for the User ones.. ...

Thanks, I guess I'll have to run that additional installer. I am completely new to Bryce and did not realize I needed two installs.
