One more from the Osborne lights and my last entry.

I think my dinner bill from that night probably was enough to cover the light show, LOL.  Mickey Mouse is extremely proud of his steaks!!

That last shot is gorgeous and the number of lights must be some sort of record. Great job with this!

Very lovely

MrsLubner ( ) posted Sun, 20 December 2009 at 10:44 PM

I really enjoy seeing all these Christmas decorations...inside and out. No inside decorations in my house this year except for a very small tree and I only brought out one string of lights and one box of ornaments for it. With no family and no visitors this year, it seemed like a lot of trouble for just me and my daughter. And we don't have many outside lights or decorations in my part of town. A few...but they tend to get stolen at night so most people don't bother. I see them when I drive home from work at night. Some of the older, historic areas have the most lovely light shows. But seeing all this holiday fare here is an added treat!

That's a shame about the stolen lights and for that matter other stolen decorations. I really would ike to know what goes on in the mind of some of these people who steal parts of the Nativity Scene or other decorations!

MrsLubner ( ) posted Mon, 21 December 2009 at 1:03 AM

Envy mostly. Not just envy directed at the people they steal from. Envy complicated by lack of self control and the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong.  A society filled with instant gratification beings who were never made to be responsible for their own actions.... Its sad.

I'm posting this one before missing the challenge again for my laziness... I have folders full of past challenge shot I forgot to post in the end and the month simply slipped away ;-D. These are the reflections of a building and trees on the window of a shop sporting xmas lights. This year there are much less lights  than usual, and I don't like going downtown, so I don't go often, and never after dark. In fact, it's forbidden to cars, and going back home, in the area where I livewalking along the empty streets it's a bit dangerous . Moreover, where I live there is the tram, and therefore no lights along its tracks, because of the electric wires criss.crossing the street. It's very cold these days and the tram is so crowded that people can't even get on at some stops.

MrsLubner ( ) posted Mon, 21 December 2009 at 11:10 AM

Those window reflections have a magical feel. A mix of big and small that has a consistent mood.

I got some fancy homes and lights tonight.  And I got some smaller, more simple homes with plenty of lights.  I imagine the children in this smaller, older home will greet Christmas morning with a wonderful smile and be so happy in their loving family.  The heart of Christmas is there.

I can feel the love and the excitement for the holidays in this shot, Tom. So many festive lights shows enthusiasm and family participation. Love it!

Taken on my walk home this evening from work. Im always in awe of this building no matter what time of day,or weather conditions, It seems to take a life of its own.  This shot was taken about 1.5 city blocks away. Im still learning how to talk night shots. so a little postwork to clean it up a little.

Outstanding. I always have difficulty with noise in my nightshots. I love the way this cleans up without distortion.

My last post:  Small town street, lined with sellers of antiques, one beauty salon, one photography studio and a hardware store:  The Christmas tree is a tree living there, decorated in the style of lights for what year it might be.   This area was once a trading spot for pearls, fresh water pearls from mussels.  Altered water has all but eliminated the mussels.   When Mikimoto started cultured saltwater pearls, a secondary market came to be with thick mussel shells(mother-of-pearl and lovely polished) sold and cut to make centers for the cultured pearls. The pearl and shell business has been gone more years than I have been alive but native freshwater pearls always command a certain share of the jewelry market, even if less available than before.

The Christmas decorations on the street poles show only slightly but I like the quiet mid evening scene of small town street.

PJ,  Family participation is what I felt in my previous photo but those words eluded me when I did the post.  I can hear a child saying, "Daddy, can I put my lights over here.."   That was nice.

This was shot at ISO500, F/5.6, 1/20 sec, vibration reduction.

a big winky-dink atcha, Tom. And this is another really cozy shot too. I love quiet small town streets - after dark...holidays... comfy.

This is a nice thread with many neat points of view of the holidays.Too bad for us who have used up our allotment of posts since New Years is coming up!  Maybe we need 3 posts for each holiday...

All in all, I look forward to any new additions to this challenge.  I always learn something about my photography from these challenges...

TomDart ( ) posted Sat, 26 December 2009 at 7:36 PM

Well, the seasonal stress of my job is my excuse for the previous post.  After all, New Years Day is next month and any photos of the night before would be posted likely in January... ;  )

Happy New Year Everyone!.

MrsLubner ( ) posted Mon, 28 December 2009 at 3:28 PM

oh my gosh!!

I baked 18 dozen cookies and received another 3 dozen for holiday gifts and STILL, looking at this, I want to eat every last one!

The pov is a knock-out and if I put my mouth to the bottom edge of my monitor, I think I can tilt the screen just enough so that all over these goodies fall into my mouth!

Some people call them hips. Some people call them battleships. I just call them space barriers...and they work equally as well at the buffet table as they do during Black Friday shopping at the Mall! :scared:

Tom...?  I think there is one treat left on the cookie plate... I'll toss a coin with ya for it! :tt2:
