THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: My Bryce Beta 7 Test

Hello All!     This was my third tests, using the eco-system of Bryce Beta 7.   There is beginning, many bugs appeared, until that I learned how to dose each tool   of the echo-system of Bryce, because if he/she has a very high value, a "Crash" and you will cause will lose your work.   Each object that you to increase in the scene, save the project periodically, how many times doesn't matter goes need.    When it applies an eco-system, go applying little by little and saving, this way, you will avoid the "crashes."   I built this scene after 7 hours of test, because a crash happened and logically, I lost the last command. Everything built in Bryce 7, except for the atmosphere, I used a sphere mapped with a sky of 360th + configurations in the atmosphere of Bryce and several lights.   I wait to have helped and that have liked the result.     Anderson "Gendragon"

Very well done. great elaboration of the scene.
You meow the instance lab he/she still leaves to want... we will await the definitive version.
Congratulations for the tests.

My first scene with Bryce 7 is still full of crash.

Yes, I particularly like that sky/atmosphere  effect. Well done Gendragon. 👍

Well done and most encouraging...I await true instancing for relief from these "Crashes".. ....

Eco-system? What eco-system? This isn't Vue.

ROFL, I love Vegomatic, but I'm hoping instancing will be for objects as well as just veg.  I don't use veg much.

Instancing has been around for quite some time especially with the more expensive 3D packages. It is meant to save on memory since an instance is a place holder for the object being instanced. It has been used to instance most anything in a scene. Vue uses it primarily for rocks and foliage but can be used with other things.

Oh I must say that sky is freakin NICE! :) That's one thing Bryce really has improved on it seems

Instancing rules, check this I did years ago with Vue ;)

hm I don't know how bryce does it, but maybe have seperate terrains for each area of ecosystem to help with crashes?
multiple terrains are a good way anyway to work as landscapes are made up of many interlocking parts: scree, cliffs, outcrops, meadows, etc etc.
also, if you have many seperate bits, you maybe able to deduce if one causes crashes by process of elimination?

another thing Bryce should pinch form Vue is "strata" fucntion for terrains

Yes and this worries me a lot as although I have heard Daz staff say full vegetation instancing will come with the full release, nothing has been said about meshes made in Bryce or primatives or meshes made outside of Bryce and imported in... and without these it would be a terrible limitation.

Fine for those who just want a landscaper, but millions of trees just don't have as much interest for me as a swarm of bees, or spaceships, or metaballs.... or anything else would.

As you say "It is meant to save on memory since an instance is a place holder for the object being instanced." and in Maya and C4D this applies to any object, not just a tree, bush or clump of grass.  sigh...

So, I've posted a feature request to that end in the bug report.

(This isn't to say that I would never use instancing on a lot of trees and grass etc etc, but I for one would want to use it on a lot of other stuff as well.)

Foop-de-do, I'm repeating myself I fear.  And I do agree that the image GenDragon posted at the beginning of this thread is an excellent use of instancing in a practiced hand - and I recommend posting it in the Beta7 Feedback thread.
