If anyone is wishing Bryce had a plant/vegetation generator besides the Tree Lab, I discovered the answer a few threads back from Peggy Walters. PlantStudio is the answer without having to spend a fortune, it's only $39.95. It will make all kinds of weed, grasses, flowers and assorted plants, easily and they look really good. It exports in the file formats us Bryce users need, and it's too easy to use. Check this link out and check out the demo, you'll be sold in 5 minutes after using it. Now I no longer envy Vue users for having plant making capabilities in their software. Thanks go out to Peggy Walters for bringing this program to attention. kaom (:^)

I've had the program over a year now and use it with almost all my outside pictures. It's a very good program for vegetation. But it does soon add up the size of the scene your doing thus slowing down renders. I've had one cooking with Bryce 5 and this is the second day of rendering to disk (82%) as I write.

Schurby, I agree on the file size issue, but... The vegetation that PlantStudio makes is a fraction of the size of that produced by XFrog, I ran out of memory importing an XFrog tree, and I have 448 MB. So far it PlantStudio veggies havn't crippled my machine in the render dept.As long as you use it wisely it should be a good addition to Bryce. I'm working on rendering some of the plants to later use as clip maps. I hope your render finishes soon!LOL kaom

Since I tried Plant Studio and now with Bryce 5 trees, it make you look at plants and trees with a whole different attitude! I love it when you find a program that does what it says and does not cost a fortune. I will be registering my copy of Plant Studio today. Glad it helped you too Kaom!

Well,I'm even more sold on PlantStudio. It completely rocks. And I found a website with a huge collsection of Parameter files for it, that make plants in it with little effort that you can tweak to your needs. I have to mention that[3D Cafe] has a great collection of 3D models of plants' grasses, weeds, flowers, aquatic plants, and house plants, I just downoaded all of them. With PlantStudio and all these 3D models, vegetation is no longer an issue for me in Bryce. And I just love that Tree Lab! And when KenS releases his new Bryce CD we'll be all set, by the way the grass Clip Map form Marlin Studios is great, thanks Ken! kaom

Damn, that's a bummer! I think I saw a link to program for MAC a while back, I can't remember the name of it, somebody out there might know. Sorry, I wish you could use it. kaom

to kaom. The importproblem in bryce is well known and i have it too.cant import *.obj files that are larger than about 12 mb . But in xfrog there is a slider down at the left, that shows you how many polys your tree has.And with that slider you can reduce the amount of polys of your tree, without changing the look of your tree dramatically.just draw him to the left.and if you keep your polys lower than about 120000 bryce has no probs.but maybe someone will solve that d.... imprtprob sometimes

Plant Studio sounds really cool, I'm about to check it out, but I read an interesting review in Bryce... When it got to the part about the Tree Lab he casually commented that "radically altered trees can be made into plants" and he had a sample picture to prove it. Although I don't have B5 yet, I had been thinking along those lines myself. In reality, the Tree Lab probably is not enough, but his picture did get me thinking...

So far I havn't had any problem with importing .obj files from PLantStudio into Bryce. I got the demo of XFrog, and I checked the slider in lower lefthand corner, it does work! The only problem with XFrog is, I can't really afford it right now, PlantStudio was so cheap I couldn't resist. I'm not sure, but I think you can control the poly size in PlantStudio. But I'm havn't had any problems so far. The 3D models from 3DCafe work pretty well too, some are a little big in poly's but they are pretty real looking. I'd like to see the review about making plants in the Tree Lab, do you have a link? I'm sure there is a way to make some interesting stuff in there, but I havn't figured it out yet. kaom

I have plantstudio too and I like it very much.I decided not to upgrade my bryce 4.1 to 5.0 but to buy xfrog. In germany both a about the same price. And after reading about trouble with the registrationnumbers and so on ,i will wait a little while.what i like on xfrog is the usage of scanned textures on the leafs that makes the plants and trees so realistic

XFrog is great, but not cheap. I did the Bryce 5 upgrade instead, but later I will probobly get XFrog. Until then it looks like PlantStudio will get me by, and the price is right. Mabye Bryce 6 will take care of this, wouldn't it be nice to be able to make low poly vegetation in Bryce? Oh well, I'll just have to find workarounds and tricks until then. PlantStudio ain't so bad though, I'm digging it a lot. kaom

PlantStudio rocks! I've had it for a year or so now and I haven't been sorry yet. For a long time, PlantStuido and TreeDruid were the answers to my prayers for outside scenes. And the best part about PlantStudio is you've only got to pay once. You get all the upgrades (so far) for free! The fact that you can not only get normal plants but that you can generate your own, and random qualities of them, is great!
