Subject: Strange phenomenon ;)

holyforest ( ) posted Mon, 12 April 2010 at 12:52 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 10:12 AM

Hello,
I've got a Mac Intel core duo 2 ghz, OS X 10.5.8.
I've got a PC Intel core duo 2 ghz with Vista.
I've got Carrara 7 pro running both on the Mac and the PC.
When rendering with the Mac, I've got 2 tiles - a yellow one and a pink one.
When rendering with the PC, I've got only one yellow tile and of course a slow rendering.
Any idea about what's wrong with my configuration on the PC?
Thank you,

I would check that the multi-threading is checked on the PC.  If it is, then to check if the system sees both processors.  Press Control-alt-delete or right click on the task bar, bring up the task manager.  Select Performance and it should have  a CPU Usage History section.  If it has 2 graphs there then the OS see's both processors.  if you do things you should see most activity in one, but should see some in both.

You might also need to check your network configuration. Sometimes firewall and router settings get in the way. This also means that settings which work one way may not always work the other way in network directionality.

Of course if I'm confused a little and you're just talking about one computer rather than connecting the two of them... There should be a tick box lower down under render settings that says "multi-threaded" that needs to be checked on. The render settings panel does scroll, depending on screen size.

pauljs,

I'm not using rendernode.
I'm talkin about the standalone mode.

I had a similar problem, I had forgotten to create a rule to allow WIndows 7's firewall to communicate with my internal networks IP Range.

Xerxes,
Multi-threading is on.
The Mac Intel doesn't need any additional configuration to work perfectly, that's what's strange.

How may I do that?
Thanks

Perhaps I would need to contact DAz support?

Hello Holyforest,

in the render room under miscellaneous there
there is a checkbox "enable multi threading"
is that enabled?

Yes, it's enabled...
Very strange.
I had a normal rendering with the two tiles before I did a complete Vista reintsall.
Now that doesn't work anymore!!???

Sounds really strange.
The only other thing I could imagine would be NPR/ draft, but since you compared
the same render on the MAC and the Windows system this cannot be the reason either.

Hello Faba :)
This is  an example of images renered on PC: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2041867&user_id=34800&np&np
and on the Mac : http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2033745&user_id=34800&np&np
Technicaly, there is no difference except the "tiles" problem.

I just sent a bug repport to Daz...
Wait and see.

There might also be some setting you have to tweak under the task manager. But I couldn't be 100% certain, since I'm still on XP here. But supposedly there have been some changes to processor management and not all software handles it automatically.

Yes, some investigation is needed, but I've got very low skill with Vista...

I saw both that processors are active.
I'm upgrading to Windows Seven...
Wait and see ;)
