I had put all my data on an external drive. My computer crashed and somehow the identifier on the drive was erased. The computer no longer "sees" the exterenal drive. I tried several repair places and they said they would" try to fix" the problem for $300 to $500 dollars, but no promises.
I had tried connecting the external drive to another computer, but with no result. I just want to try redown what data I can. I need to use the dino for a project.
I never purchased anything at content paradise so I didn't get it from there. I bought lots at Daz, but I couldn't find it there.
Daz should list all purchases in your account profile. Even stuff that not in the website any more .
Your external drive may have had the usb connection fried. :( if that has happened you should be able to remove the drive from the external enclosure and mount it in the computer case , even if temporarily to copy files off it.

Yes, this happened with a couple of my Western Digital MyBooks and I ended up removing the drive. Fortunately the drive was fine and the files were easily accessed. I would try removing the drive and testing it that way first.
Great you have found the dino.
Now on to the problem, as it stands at the moment you have a "brick" containing your data.
You cannot currently access the data.
Do you want to track down and re-install everything you have on the external drive individually or do you want to try to recover the data en masse?
The user's in this hobby tend to be computer literate, many are quite knowledgeable and because of the wide disparity in hardware a broad range of problems has been encountered.
Chances are that someone has experience with the same problem you have so if the pertinent information is supplied there is a good expectation that the problem can be resolved.
What have you got to lose?
Quote - I found the T-Rex at Runtime DNA. The saddle was from giant snail racing rig.
The USB connection is good, ID thingy is on the external drive,
Thanks everyone.
An external drive contains a 'normal' harddrive and a USB adapter. What they are saying is that the problem likely lies with the USB adapter(the Device ID is a property of the USB adapter) , and the drive itself (and your data on it) may be fine. If this drive is removed and either installed into another adapter/case combination ($20 or so at Newegg), or installed into a computer as a secondary drive (free if you have the cable), the data can be easily retreived.
