Subject: Vicky's hip gone

ShaaraMuse3D ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2010 at 6:33 AM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 2:15 PM

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone has run into this issue.

At some point while working on a certain project, Victoria 4's entire hip part is gone. There's a hole where it used to be.. Since I have clothes over her, I usually don't notice until it's late, and then the whole project is ruined, since I use dynamic cloth simulations.

Has anyone else had problems where entire body parts simply disappear? (It's not hidden)

Thanks

 Yep, I too run into this frequently.

I still have no clue as to "Why" it happens.

I have been able to Delete V4 and reload her into the scene but its a 50/50 shot.

Not much help, other than to confirm, It's not JUST You :)

ShaaraMuse3D ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2010 at 8:07 AM

 Yeah that's the problem.. I don't want to have to delete the figure (and apply all the morphs, conforms, cloth simulations etc) again.  Right now I'm solving it by simply saving to new files very frequently, so I don't have to redo -too- much each time it happens..  :)

Are you using Poser 8 too, or another version?

Synpainter ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2010 at 8:17 AM

 I use P6,7,8

I believe its more of a V4 issu ,than just a Poser issue. I have run into this with P7 also.

The Other oddity is the "Point At" syndrome with eyes & teeth flying out of the head  : /

C'est la vie with Poser

 Actually, the point at syndrome seems to have stopped happening for me with Poser 8.. I had it all the time with Poser 7.

I posted this same question over at daz.  one of the replies gave .cr2 technical advice

 Very helpful information!

I already overwrote the malfunctioning project, but I will test the suggested information in that thread if it happens again.

Thanks a bunch!

I haven't had it happen with V4, but it happens occasionally with M4 using Poser 7.

 In the daz3d post that MistyLaraPrincess linked to, it was M3 and A3, so I don't think it's limited to a specific figure..  If it happens again and any of the suggested solutions work, I'll definitely post it here.

In the past I've had this problem.
I opened the scene file and found that there was a glitch -- there was no reference to the hip geometry. So I copied and pasted from the abdomen (changing abdoment to hip) and all was good.

actor hip:1
      {

      }
actor abdomen:1
      {
      storageOffset 0 0 0
      geomHandlerGeom 13 abdomen
      }

you want to change this to
actor hip:1
      {
storageOffset 0 0 0
      geomHandlerGeom 13 hip
      }
actor abdomen:1
      {
      storageOffset 0 0 0
      geomHandlerGeom 13 abdomen
      }

I've just run into the problem for the very first time in hundreds of renders. :(  In my case it isn't the hip but the lower half of her abdomen.  Oddly only the lower half which is really crazy since you can't select that as a figure part.

My bad!  The hip object is where the problem is.  Not sure whether this will help anyone else but I found out what happened in my case and that V4 in that particular scene of mine is now FUBAR.
    As an explanation:  I was working on the scene in P8.  Since P8 takes a long time to come up I left it up and running while I went to take a nap.  When I got up and only after I'd resaved the scene did I notice the problem (I'd had V4, everything touching her and all lights affecting her all set).
    I tried loading the scene into P7 but had the same problem.  A bit later I noticed that the lights on my sound system were flashing.  That's an indication that there was a power fluctuation.  Not one bad enough to reboot my computer but possibly bad enough to mess up files that were in memory.
I expect the following to be true although I can't prove it:

  1. If I hadn't saved the file before discovering the problem I would only have had to close Poser, reopen it and reload the scene to correct the problem.
  2. all other similar problems are probably caused in a similar fashion.

If, as I have, you saved the corrupted file over your last good save the only answers are to rebuild the scene or at least reload everything associated with V4 or find a way to edit and correct the pz3 file.
Anyone know of an editor that can edit and save a pz3 file?  I really don't want to have to redo all the posing for V4.

 I had the problem appearing again, the hip actor had all the geometry, but I tried another suggestion, which was to activate or deactivate (depending on what's on) "genitalia" in the figure options, then reload.. Problem solved.

So if the hip disappears and the file looks correct, try that.

Mark@poser ( ) posted Sun, 25 April 2010 at 8:06 AM

I can share my experiences on this. I find that when I load the file, if the hip on V4 is gone, it's best to just reload or REVERT immediately. I have not found the need to toggle the genitals On/Off switch, and usually the reload of the scene fixes it. However, if you don't check for V4 missing hip and then do some work and SAVE the scene, you've probably messed V4 up. You can reload and reload the scene ater that, and it won't matter. The only fix then is to do what AnAardvark says above.

Be aware that sometimes after the fix AnAardvark mentions is used, the hip comes in distorted. I find the Waist Width morph can be manipulated to "almost" fix this.

I've had this problem probably 100 times in the last year, and wish it could be fixed, but Daz calls it a Poser problem and Smith Micro calls it a third party figure issue.

Good luck

ShaaraMuse3D ( ) posted Sun, 25 April 2010 at 8:40 AM

 Yeah, I've used both methods on a particular project I'm working on right now that seems to be manifesting it often.. Sometimes just toggling genitals works, otherwise I've edited the hip actor as anaardvaark suggested, which works perfect. Thank goodness for these forums.. :)
