Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 15 9:11 am)
The problem is I can't get that far to even point the installer to any file dummy or not. The error occurs before I can select a poser file to install to.
Question: what is the file you're trying to install? Is it one that has _DS in the name? If so, that's a studio specific file and you can't install them without Studio.
I don't even download them because I don't have DS any longer. You need to make sure the file is a ps-whatever for Poser.

Nothing you folks pointed out apply sorry lol. If you look at the error message " error reading INI file C: Program Files (86x)Common FilesDAZdazInstall.ini" the file never installed to anywhere because it couldn't. You see the dazInstall.ini file was missing. It kinda gave me a clue after I sat here and read it long enough and finally the light went on.
I went to the C: Program Files(86x)Common Files in Windows 7 only to find there was no DAZ folder there with the dazInstall.ini file in it. So the installer is looking for the Daz folder that isn't even there. It was no wonder I got the error.
So I created a DAZ folder in the Windows 7 program files(86x>commons files yada, yada then went into the Windows.old folder and copied the dazIntsall.ini and pasted into the new Daz folder in Windows 7. Now she installs no problem. Without the ini file you never got past the error message to point the installer to ANY directory whether it be in the Program files or on the moon. ; )
I was thinking it was UAC again.

is exactly the behavior I'd expect to see with UAC blocking it..... I get it all the time with certain installers.. it's why I stopped using program files if I can avoid it.
Poser is working better in Windows 7 then it did in Vista. I had a few issues with Poser 8 and Poser Pro 2010 that don't seem to be there now.
Actually it isn't a Windows problem it is a bug in the DAZ installers. There is a thread in the Nuts & Bolts forum about all the problems with the installers HERE, see specifically the post by Tjeerd Doosje, he/she posted a fix, which you more or less did yourself anyway.

It says daz install, so wondering if as stated above if it is a ds file, should be installing to the poser subdirectory. Also if you are trying to install and your poser dir is in the 64bit that could be the problem as I notice it's trying to install into the x86. At any rate check again to make sure it isn't a ds unless you are specifically putting it there in the daz directory. I created a small txt file and stuck it in the directory and renamed it poser.exe, that solved my V4 install problem.
No it says it is dzinstall because it is to do with the DAZ installers, I think it is actually to do with how the installers (at least the newer ones) remember the last directory you installed to, that is the info stored in the ini file.

Yes that was annoying issue I was told to use one of the old installers like the V4 Developers Kit uses the old installer to have that create the necessary file and then you can use the new installers like a charm. But you found your solution now I am searching the forums for Poser 8 continuous crashes that is driving me crazy.

I can't seem to get past this point without this error popping up so I can't even point the installer to any directory. I am using Windows 7 64-bit Poser and all installed great I can't get Daz people to install.
