I may be wrong, but I don't think purely adult stuff is what John's talking about here (correct me if I'm wrong though ;o)).
I think what he's saying is, you have new things submitted to the store and on the What's New page you have everything from racey teddies and corsets to stuff for Chip and Cookie, Nursoda's figures, etc. It's a wild mix ;o).
Are you suggesting that there be a Toon side of the store, a sexy clothes side of the store, a "normal" more casual clothes side, etc?
I think the MP does have categories like that but the What's New has them all lumped together ;o). I can't see a way to avoid it since anything that's new would theoretically go in one category for viewing purposes ;o). Not sure how a "family friendly" store and a more "racey" store would be handled either.... Good thing I'm not in charge, eh? ;o).
Laurie
There's also a lot of grey areas.. Sure, you have lingerie in one end and Chip and Cookie in the other, but then you have everything else in between..
When you submit a product you also click if any of your promo images have nudity, which I think you can filter or something when you browse?
I see the point, but wouldn't it be hard to implement?
So take an example.. I made a dynamic princess outfit, with pants and a top for Vicky.. It can look sexy, but it can also be very cutsey if you use it on a more cartooney character.. So where would it go?

That's what I can't figure out either, since the MP has just about everything from soup to nuts...lol ;o).

John, I really think you are over-exerting your authority as head query-master.
I am inclined to agree with the others, difficult to implement and difficult to enforce. However, those who do peruse the marketplace are probably old enough to own their own credit card and make unsupervised purchases. There is, perhaps, nothing shocking in the marketplace that you wouldn't see advertised on public television.

Fair enough, I will stop asking questions. I'm only curious but if it causes offence or irritation I'm not into that.

Discussions are good for the community. There are some threads I can't be bothered with so I don't read them. Everyone has that choice and there's no need for irritation. So if you're wondering about these things it should be okay for you to seek the opinions of those you truly like (I hope:)
As for the OP: No! I don't like the idea of separate this and separate that. Female underwear isn't pornographic and neither is the human body. As hborre said there is not much here that's more offensive then what you could see on public television.

Keep asking away. I like to see what you have brought up.
To go with what was above. The MP may have some racy stuff sometimes.. (bondage etc) but its held to the same rules as the rest of the site... like the gallery. :)

I COULD see separating the Kewpie Doll/Manga character stuff from the more realistic. The Manga stuff is not my cup of tea- and I find myself spending an inordinate amount of time scrolling through cotton candy hair when I am looking for realistic. It would also be a great time saver for those who are more Manga oriented.
"At least they encourage discussions which can't be simply answered by "switch gamma correction on" :-)"
Ditto
I think you would end up with vendors complaining about their product getting placed in one section or the other. It would be another epic Rendo catfight. Maybe the organization could be improved but otherwise it's probably better not to do it. There would be too many borderline cases. I can imagine the same item with a peek-a-boo morph or racy transmap being both appropriate and inappropriate for a 'family friendly' section - and when is a personal massager just a personal massager?. The current system with the advisories on additional images seems reasonable.
If you were going to have separate sections, I could see a 'kids store' devoted entirely to toys and toon type stuff perhaps as part of a whole 'Renderosity Junior' theme, though I don't know how much of a demand there would be for such a thing. On the other end, you could have a clearly adult section for things more erotic than what is currently available, but clearly that is not going to happen.
I vote for the next question to be about faeries.

. . . good stuff.
(ROTFLMAO, to coin a phrase)
I like your questions, Fugazi. They let people who aren't node cult geniuses participate in discussions. Please, keep asking.
Also, I like your idea.
"Targeted advertising."
If Rendo wanted to set up thematic categories, they would not have to be inflexible, and there would be no reason merchants couldn't choose which categories they wanted their products to be assigned to. Nor any reason why an item couldn't exist in multiple categories.
The advertising categories that you would see most of could be linked to your past purchases, of course, or to recommendations by merchants you've bought from, and even to your favourites in the galleries.
I don't know how hard this would be to implement. But I think it would improve the overall experience here.
Lots of thoughts from everyone there then :)
It is reasonably clear I think that the margin that seperates non adult and adult products is so small as to make it a non starter. As has been mentioned the stuff in the marketplace is no stronger than anything you might see on the high street or in a catalogue.
The category thing does seem to be something of a jumble though. If this were a high street retail store I think it would struggle. Walk into any sucessful Supermarket or Fashion store and you can see how things are laid out. Store layouts are very carefully designed and for good reason. You may be able to get people into the store, but if they can't easily find what they want, then they are likely to go somewhere else.
This isn't an issue with Rendo only of course, it is an issue across all these types of stores that I have experienced. Caused somewhat by a legacy from the stores early days. The sheer number of products makes it a big task to change for the better, but sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and do it to make a difference.

Perhaps not 2 complete different stores, though I do like the idea, but clear departments in the store would be good. If you go to a dvd rental place, you will find all kinds of dvd's, from kids to adult stuff (which imo even adults shouldn't watch) and everything in between. Most of it is nicely sorted though. To get kids stuff I don't have to browse through all kinds of dvd's not for kids. I know which section to go to.
Clear departments would imo be very good and helpful. I'm still hoping that one day someone has the guts to start a poser toon store. RDNA is trying to profile themselves a bit as a home for toons, but they've got lot's of other stuff as well and they don't even have a toon theme section, even CP has that. I would not mind a toon only focussed store.
Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

I would say don't worry about how smith micro sells Poser and don't worry how Rendo runs it's marketing. If you have a product, stop being a free marketing consultant (that line replaced shut-up) and sell it, all these "questions" are getting dreary. That aside, I loved your heads up on 3D World, I had that issue and had ignored Curvy 3D, that was a good thread. Also you have some nice images in your Gallery, keep up that work. It's not a contest to see who can open the most threads. I hope this didn't come off as overly harsh, but your title implied that even you think your questions are getting old.

First off, my selling products has nothing to do with these questions, I have some stuff in the pipeline and it will end up being sold somewhere regardless.
I am not procrastinating or trying to solve the worlds ills before I put a product out.
I'm not trying to compete with anyone as to thread numbers or anything thread related. If something occurs to me I ask a question and thats that. I'm always interested to hear other peoples thoughts.
Do I expect to illicit change by asking questions? Not really, I suspect stores and the like will carry on as they are because it kinda already works so why fix it?
So why do it? I hear you say, well it doesn't hurt to think about stuff and to dicuss ideas. I'm not the only person who reads the threads so I can't be the only one having ideas.
From feedback i am getting, some people like the posts and some don't, that's life I suppose. I have however decided to stop, because I believe my motives are being questioned and I don't really like that feeling. It's a shame because I was quite enjoying seeing peoples thoughts and stuff.
I shall stick to the odd technical question, technical reply and general lurking.

Hmmm....I never felt you were trying/thinking of selling anything and I rather like your questions. Shame some have to spoil it. It's the odd technical question (always the technical question) that makes this place really boring at times. I think it's a good thing to discuss other things now and then, get into the heads of your fellow members a little. Maybe make friends? Hell, have a lively discussion?
Well John, I'LL miss your questions :o).

:) If I think of one that can't be construed as anything but a question I'll slip one in every once in a while. Maybe I'll find some other way of asking the other questions, just not through a forum environment.

I think the whole store is a flipping mess. For instance, try to find say, all of the Miki 2 items on sale-can't do it. I've been unable to find items that I knew the name of using the MP search function-thank goodness for Google. DAZ, and even CP are better.
On the plus side, access to some store features, such as wishlist are very good here...
PS: John,
You pose questions that lead to interesting discussions-after all, this is a discussion forum, last i checked. If someone doesn't like the topic, they don't need to click on the link. Don't waste your time feeding the trolls; come up with more questions...

"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."John, please don't feel attacked. Some of your posts have implied or asked "are you getting sick of these questions?" I only replied "Yes". Some of your ideas are thoughtfull, just don't belong under the Poser forum, maybe a general forum or a marketplace forum. One of the problems is your cute-sie topics. Make your subject clear and meaningfull. Don't make us read the post to find out you have advice for Smith Micro or the like. Use "OT" when you wish to chatter. keep posting to the galleries, ask and answer technical questions. This is a community and you have every right to be here, just "stop playing your radio so loud".

I'm not feeling attacked matey, and I am not really worried about if people want me to ask questions or not.
I am however concerned about having my questions linked to my merchant activities, which are entirely seperate. John the merchant and John the community member are both me, but should not be mixed up. It is a decision bourne out of wanting to keep them seperate and they are currently being blurred.
As a vendor (very soon) I am keen to make the most of my technical skills to provide good value products to the community. I've given away freebies for years, written and recorded tutorials and believe it's time to put those to good use.
As a member of the community (any community) I ask questions in an attempt to understand and communicate with fellow community members, it's all about a bit of social interaction. Sometimes I'm serious, others more light hearted, but the day I stop asking questions or learning stuff will be the day I stay in bed.
As for other Forums here, to be honest the use of them is sporadic at best. This Forum is, by popular usage a Poser Technical Forum, so what is the Poser Technical Forum for? I've been around alot of the forums here and they are either empty or very sporadically posted to.
But then all sorts of questions are asked here, what is this figure? where can I get that hair? what character is this? here is my next thingy bob or whatever.
If I had one last question to ask it would be, what would you like to see in this forum that would keep you interested, coming back and participating on a more regular basis?
There is nothing wrong with the Techie stuff, or the where is this or that? or look at what i did posts, I just think there must be something more. It is a sad fact that other forums are less used, or near empty, but the inescapable truth is that the majority of Forum users come here and only here.
Remember when we posted freebies in here? I got buckets of downloads from those posts. Now that the posts are in the Freebie Forum, you can count on less than a fraction of the downloads. This is just an example of other forum usage, not a lament on the number of downloads I get for my freestuff.
Still it is all achedemic, I will continue to participate in teh forums of course, I'm not throwing my toys out of the pram. Believe it or not I am an Adult (body don't fail me now) I'm not throwing a tantrum, I am simply seeking a way of keeping merchant me and community me distinct.

I rather like to see a dividing between textures and original models, then a dividing in naughty and decent stuff. I hate it when I'm looking for a a hair model or shoes I have to scroll through hundreds of textures before I finally find something I want.
I like to see tags on merchandise promotions to let you know it's a texture or a model and for which model it's meant to be, before you click on the advertising and get disapointed.
A lot of texture-merchants promote their stuff like it's a freestanding product, and when I see something I like and I scroll down all the beautifull pages, I get really pissed when I come the bottom to find out you have to buy another model to use it.
There is a lot of improvement lately, you can see on the top that you need another product, but that's just some small print. So please, please.. dear texturemakers, make clear that your frivolic summer product is made for the whoop-te-do outfit.
... and another point: it would be nice if we had a "next" and a "previous" button in the marketplace, I really miss that.
Just my thoughts,
Bopper.
-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?
I know what ya mean, I think it is there already :) took me a while to cotton on.
If you go to the store, Poser/Daz, figure section (V4 or something), Hair
at the top of the list you get Model/Texture :)

Which is why I went on to ask for more meaningful subject lines from John, OR "OT" when it is just chatting. I don't want to assume everything he posts is OT. He came up with a real good one on 3d World a few days ago. Additionally I would never of mentioned it but he asked for our thoughts on his posts.
John's big enough to defend himself. It really wouldn't hurt him to add OT to the appropriate threads. I'll still open most anything he posts just because of the discussions they generate. I was put off by Hobe's particular writing style as it comes across as rude, but I can see that he clearly didn't mean for it to be taken that way. He was answering John's questions matter of factly. I think I'm growing a thicker skin. Anyone wanna pet it? :tt2:

Dead forums tend to stay dead. People don't post to dead or dying forums because people don't reply to threads because they aren't reading the forum because the forum is dead.
I like forums that have lots of new threads and a good chance of a reply to things I post.
There is no reason to separate a forum by topic until the thread creation rate causes new threads to drop off of the top couple of pages. The point at which you have to click to page 3 to find a thread you created within the last 24 hours is probably a bit past the point at which a forum needs to be split.
This one is nowhere near that. So while there exists a split into a general poser forum and a technical one, I expect that the other one isn't used because it was split before the forum reached that critical rate of new thread creation.
If anything this forum is still a bit too slow.
So I say, don't worry about creating new threads. Ask questions. But don't apologize ahead of time in your thread title, either. Just title the thread appropriately and let the discussion take its course. It's all good.

Probably in equal measure.
I was just looking at the whats new marketplace pages, and it kind of occured to me that the products all mixed in kind of jarred with each other. One product may be kinda cutesy and clearly aimed at one kinda market, while the next might be somewhat more adult in nature.
So hyperthetical question of the day :) would you vote for having a family friend store and an adult themed store, to kinda keep these things seperate. I mean you can put content advisory on a gallery image (where necessary and not just to get more views), can you do the same for products?
Now before I finish I'd just like to state that I'm not a puritanical zealot or anything, just a normal kinda guy. I'm not pushing censorship or anything like that, just applying equal standards. I also realise that a product in itself may not be adult oriented, but use of it in an image may be.
Let me know what you think :)
John.
