playing around with atmosphere and replicators. ciao

That is some really nice work.  Good job.

Very good terrain and plant replicator work. I've never been to Tuscany, or Italy, unfortunately, but from what I've seen in Movies and travel programs this seems true to life. My only other observation, not a critique, is that the atmosphere and sunlight seem a little "cool" for Sunny Tuscany. My scenes have this tendency as well. I notice that Howie Farke's scenes always seem to have the feeling of warm sunshine in them so I'll have to analyze one of them to see how he achieves this. Great work.

thanks guys,
unfortunately to reduce the rendering time I had to sacrifice the lighting (and  anti-aliasing too) so the light output is a little weak and "cold", then I guess that the gamma correction accentuates that issue too, anyway I must admit Carrara is great to manage files with "heavy" vegetation (by Xfrog): actually  exporting the file in 3ds without replicated objects, Vue 6 Xstream  took about 7 minutes to load, and it would certainly come out better, but with time rendering the Bible! I'd like  to bring the C atmosphere quite to  those of Vue. hope doing that

I'll give you an internet dollar if you make a vid that goes past 3 seconds and into 10 to 20 second territory. (My crit with any animation - even test ones - is that if they're shorter than 10 seconds and non-looping, it's likely not worth the bother. Just do a still image. That saves on rendering time too.) :tt2:

Scenery-wise it looks good for what you have. No complaints there. 👍

Oh and for "warmth" in scenes, it's mostly a matter of light color. Setting the scene's ambient color or the main light source's color to something warmer than full white can do that. For "mid-day" barely tinting it should help.

And afaik, atmospherics kills rendering time no matter what app you use. I used to Bryce way back, and that could be glacial. It's also possible in Carrara by toggling the sky under the scene settings and playing around. Some of those effects in combination with lighting and cloud objects goes way longer than I have patience for. (I don't use them when animating because of that.) Whether or not they can be made "Vue-like" is another question though. (I feel it's possible, but with many tweaks since the settings in the programs to achieve the same result will be different.)

Only worth a Dollar?

Hi pauljs75
I think there are two issues: the first is that in general all animation sequences of landscapes are no longer than 4 seconds, unless you make a bird view or something like that, and in that case you don't need detailed vegetation as well (i.e. Xfrog), or stereo 3d panoramas and then you need a lot of hardware and guys; the second question is what do you need a landscape view for: if you use it as a backdrop, then you do not care much about it because it focuses attention on other subjects, but if you need to create realistic 3D virtual worlds for several devices then you must find the best compromise between realism and speed / weight and that's what I'm aiming to do, being conscious that Carrara is great for that. Regarding Vue, I'm an old user and believe me I know what it means "wait" and hope there be no flickering; anyway before betting I wanna make sure that your internet dollar is real with my teeth. ciao

just testing replicators and Carrara limits; quite good settings for aerial views. ciao

I like the Sardinia one; nice flowers and plants. Is it me, or does the quality of the light seem to change as the animation progresses? At any rate your atmosphere seems much improved and looks nice and warm. The second animation is quite smooth; again with an improved sunny atmosphere and the vegetation and terrains are excellent!

I like that scene, I can imagine a dragon flying over breathing out fire.

I agree with Pauljs75 about Short Clips, There are too many 3 second clips on youtube.

What I do with my clips and although the animations themselves 4-10 seconds,  I loop them inside the video editor so at least they loop 4-5 times.  Gives the viewer a chance to look at everything.

With the 3 second clips, you press the Play Button and boom the clip is over.  If looped a bit longer gives the eye to absorb more.

I agree with you but please be patient, I'm taking one step at a time because I assigned one computer to Carrara and I must either model (a couple of hours in the evening) and render through the night and the next day, so you cannot see video longer, however, is the time for me to test Carrara on aerial views and wide scenarios from now on, so I'll upload videos longer than 5 seconds paying attention at the same time to lighting, realism and rendering speed optimization.

regarding the uploaded video vimeo probably converts and discretizes the bitrate because the quality is always worse than the original one, and time by time videos are increasingly damaged. I have to decide to open a page on youtube or sharecg sooner or later. hi and stay tuned

You dont have to render longer, what I'm saying is, you can take your 3-4 second clip, and bring into a video editor.  If you are using Windows you can bring the clip into Movie Maker and copy/paste the clip a few times so that it loops.  Then upload the video to whatever online service.

sorry analog-x64, always read posts in a hurry and I thought you to refer to camera motion anyway I uploaded the .car file of the following video in the free stuff section so that you can check settings and whatever you feel appropriate and useful; those are my favourite settings to simulate a wood seen from above. always advise to download the video to watch better.ciao

only to say that the .car file is online on the free stuff section. hope it may helps. ciao
