Subject: Updated V4 & M4

They appeared in my 'Available Downloads' over at DAZ.

Anyone have any idea what's new/updated about them?

No idea. And I'm still using V4.1, I hate all that messy V4.2 installation

Seems to be a glitch, however there appears to be a 6/18/10 update on V4.

Hehehe...I was thinking the same thing. Given the almost freakish look of the Kids4 when they were released, I'm almost afraid to look ;o).

It's only to make the Low Poly versions of the Obj files available also to the Poser-People. The only new thing in this Installer is a new subfolder in DAZPeople with 4 low poly objects with 1k, 2k, 4, and 17k Polys

Just played a little bit around and, rendertimes are superfast with 4 M4 or V4 in szene. I putted a 1k, 2k, 4k and 17k V4/ M4 in the szene and, the 4k version is usable and the 17k version is nearly like the full version.

Excellent! I was just thinking about this, I needed low res models of V4 to populate a crowded scene.

The "M4 Base" installer is (for me at least) a different size to the previous one, so the fact that the date doesn't indicate an update is probably just a glitch (like the so far non-appearance of a email announcing the update).

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sat, 19 June 2010 at 9:15 PM

But DAZ quite often has updates with no notice or if they do give notice it's about the time the DL expires.

They had said after V4 was released that they were going to have the low rez for us. Took until now I guess to get around to doing it for the poser users. How many years has V4 been out now?

Thank you, too!! Maybe the recent thread here about the LOD V4 figures that were in DAZ Studio and low poly figures in general got someone to notice. I notice they also updated them for Carrara, too. Got a new update on aniMate for Carrara and I know aniMate uses the V4 LOD for setup, so maybe the aniMate folks had something to do with it, too, since they've been working pretty closely with DAZ.

ice-boy ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2010 at 3:17 AM

how big is the original M4 mesh? 17k?

can someone show a render with only the 4k and 17k?

thanks

On the pics the left one is the 67.5k original M4 and on the right the 4k and in the middle the 17k.

As I used the original cr2 with the new obj there are some little probs with the joint parameters.

Jules: When I use the Blank or Original cr2 on the new obj I get "bone like geomtry" coming out from the hip, but not in yours, how did you get that?

R_Hatch ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2010 at 6:50 AM

That's the "BodyMorphs" actor, which isn't supposed to have any associated geometry. When you throw one of the DAZ4 figures' rigs on a mesh in Poser's Setup Room, it uses the bone mesh (the mesh that is used to represent bones in the Setup Room) for any body parts that don't have geometry. I'm pretty sure he just set it to not be visible before making the screengrab.

ima70 ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2010 at 7:35 AM

Thanks R_Hatch!!

Jules53757 ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2010 at 7:43 AM

I did nothing like that. I just took the original cr2, changed the objects and saved under a new name. Thats it. No Setup room necessary.

Now THAT is clever, Jules. Such a simple way to do it! Thanks for the tip!

And Pakled.. This will make you go ;) :

If you're getting "Newer version than expected" on ANY figure or prop, simply open it in a text editor and set the version to 4.01. (or 3 if you like ;) ) - save, and ... problem gone.

Been doing that for years now. It's how I made the full body morphs for UG! and Ben. Import the original OBJ to Zbrush. Create full body morphs. Point Original CR2 to newly morphed OBJ. Of course, that's just half the process. I then had to export MT's for each body part from the new figure and reload them onto the original, but I could have just used the new figure if I didn't want to distribute the FBM's to others.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2010 at 8:15 PM

Yep. Old trick. I thought all the older users did it.Trick I learned when I first strted with P4.  It is also the easy/ quick way to do clothes you model. That's all these developement Cr2 are.  Clothes you can cut down the size of the Cr2 by deleting the groups you don't need. Though it's wise to leave one bone extra to what you have in groups.

example. boot goes as far as the shin. You keep want the thigh included in the Cr2. A short sleeve stops at the shoulder. You want to include the forarm as well in the Cr2.

DarrenUK ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2010 at 2:33 AM

Will I have to run the figure updater to put the additional morph pack channels that I have back into V4 after I have run the new V4 installer (does it overwrite the previously installed V4)?

Daz Studio 4.8 and 4.9beta, Blender 2.78, Sketchup, Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev SR5 on Windows 8 Pro x64. Poser Display Units are inches

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2010 at 6:09 AM

Yes, you should.

ice-boy ( ) posted Fri, 12 November 2010 at 10:47 AM

is it now possible to download the low poly versions from M4?

mamba-negra ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 5:23 PM

So, if you use the lower poly people, will morph injections still work?

pjz99 ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 6:06 PM

The low rez V4 I have was bundled with DAZ|Studio 3, but no M4 is included.  If it's available anywhere, it might have been packed with a newer version of D|S than what I have (3.0.1.120) but I don't believe they got around to that.  A low rez mesh is not provided with any of the M4 download packs that I've seen.

' No, the geometry is all different, but you can convert many of them with something like Morphing Clothes (search marketplace here).

mamba-negra ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 6:12 PM

Hm, I wonder if the two geometries are recognizable enough that you could actually find the vertices that are missing and then strip those from the INJ, creating a set of low res injections...I should have a look at that.

pjz99 ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 6:35 PM

While the low rez geometry is almost exactly the same as whatever was subdivided to get the final V4 mesh, and to the eye it's impossible to tell these apart - the vertex count is not what it should be if that were the only difference.  If I remember correctly, the low rez mesh has a couple hundred more vertices than it should, implying that some extra geometry is present and this will screw up your vertex order, I don't think your plan will be practical.

mamba-negra ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 8:42 PM

Yeah, I did a spot check and none of the vertices I checked for in the low res model were present in the hires one. That's too bad:(

pjz99 ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 8:49 PM

From what I hear, some folks got some nice results converting a lot of the morphs using Morphing Clothes.
