Then when in Vue choose to import object, and point it to your .obj file you exported, and tweak away (;

Good Post/Reply RP...:)
I thought I would create a new thread that is pretty much on the same subject, except with Vue 8.5i..but I might as well ask it here, maybe I can get my issue resolved as well..?
I have used the above settings with moderate success, in that I was able to create an image using Aiko once, But I met somewhat of a disapointment with that image, you can look at it and see the textures are hosed in it here is a link to the image, but recently I have been working on an image in Vue that I wanted to use V4 with and I ran into something strange...again...
This issue is with scale it seems... Vue 8.5i is 1 Vue unit = 1m... I have asked about this before and I thought I would just mention in here to keep it in the back of the conversation...
When I import a V4 or Freak or M4 into vue with the above settings, I get a figure that seems to be about 15 to 20 feet tall if the above scale is true...so I shrink them down to work with them, but the problem is, when I do that, the textures get all bunched up as if they are not scaling correctly with the change of size and when rendered they are unacceptable/unuseable. Sure I can attempt to adjust the scale of the texture itself, but that ends up being a lot like a one legged ass-kicking contest in the mud...so....lol...
So I tried exporting the figures from DAZ3 at a smaller scale! and ya know what! no dice, the textures are hosed. If I export them from daz at 100% and import them into vue and do not resize them, then they look fine, but then I have to make terrains and other objects gigantic, which just doesn't work with ecosystems, etc etc... yea I can adjust the size of ecosystem plants and other objects, but it ends up being a real pain... I thought I read somewhere that e-on knows about this or DAZ does or... ?
Should I just change my scaling in Vue to 1 vue unit = .1 meter? like it has been in the previous versions? Would that help or hose everything else? I would really like to use more characters in my work, but DAZ is turning out to be a real PITA....sorry for the long post, I am probably rambling. :) But if anyone has recomendations for this, I'd appreciate it greatly! :)

Look at the clothes..they are scrunchy.. it happened more prevalently with the V4 import and with the Freak...
I tried letting Vue resize the model as well and it made the figure bigger lol, so I shrunk it back down and same issue...I really want to think it's just me, but it's not. Ok, maybe it is lol..but I'm pretty sure i'm not nuts lol..

Thank you or the replys by the way, I have to sleep, but tomorrow I'll post some examples that might help. :)

You can always upscale your Vue scene to meet the scale of the imported DAZ Models, just remember when do you that your enviromental aspects may change,... should not be to much though!!!
I Cuncur with RP. I use DAZ to import models of all sorts into Vue and Terragen 2 and have never had a problem.

I'll post some other pics in a few minutes with some examples, are you guys using 8.5i ?

Ok, :)
Here is a quick render showing a 256x256 terrain populated with small fir trees at a scale of 1
(default). The fir trees to the right of the fiary are painted with eco painter at a setting of
ten.(largest possible setting). The fairy was exported from daz using the settings above and
imported with no resizing. She looks great, but to get her to be proportionate with even my largest
possible trees, I have to shrink her down.
Here is a copy of her shrunk down. see the textures? hosed.
Different lighting, just as a test...
More to show scale, etc...

Thanks Thelby, for your input.
I would like to continue to troubleshoot this issue here though, moreso for the Renderosity and Vue/DAZ community than myself though. :)
I think I may have found the issue....
Thinking about RP's suggestion that it may be a bump issue, I went and looked at the bump settings and highlight settings of each individual texture for each body part. I found that the bumps were at 1 and the highlight slider was maxed to 100.
To play with that, I selected a couple individual parts and dropped those settings to .1 on the bumps and 0 on the highlights and this is the result...
I then did that with the entire model, but I had to go in to each texture individually and change the settings, very tedious, but...it worked.
and with Radiosity...
I think this issue is not resolved, but we have found a work-around. It appears that the DAZ model/UVmaps to not update correctly during scaling in Vue 8.5i. Or Vue is not interpreting things correctly... I can import any other model that I have created, in like , say, Rhino, or import other people's models (non-DAZ) and this issue doesn't exsist. So I am going to point the finger at DAZ I think... but, I dunno, what do you all think?

Once you Export your model out of DAZ then it is no longer DAZ's problem. It is however as you say that Vue 8.5 is not scaling the bumps with the rest of the texture settings when you resize. I 'd like to check it out for myself, but I am getting ready for work. When I return home tomorrow afternoon I will run a few tests to see if is a factor in Vue6 also. I don't think it is as I have never run across it. My only problem is how Vue sees the Trans Maps, I have to flip them, but in any case I will monitor this thread at work tonight and add my pennyless pinch if needed!!!

Well, I dunno, I don't have the same issues with other models that are not DAZ.

I found this thread due to another one in the Vue forum and think this will help some.
If you go to the site over at e-on, you can find several of my posts there regarding "Poser Shader Tree" and other Poser importing issues. You will note that I have found several Poser importing bugs and was assigned an e-on tech person to work with. In short, I found many regarding the "Poser Shader Tree", Re-Size on importing and OOM (Out of Memory) errors. It was confirmed and documented by e-on and it affects Vue 7.5 up to the current Vue 8.5 versions. The reason is because of the code they use in Vue that is provided by Smith Micro via an SDK. This recent SDK from Smith Micro REALLY messed up some things more than it corrected. According to e-on tech, there is no way for them to fix until Smith Micro releases a NEW SDK for them to use in Vue. I asked when that may be and they have no idea and said it was up to Smith Micro.
So, in short, some of these issues you are seeing are in fact related to the bugs that I have found and reported. The shaders are known to not import correctly and e-on recommends leaving "Poser Shader Tree" turned OFF for now until fixed. Also, the re-size on import issues are hit and miss and they too have issues. Simply leave that turned OFF as well and scale accordingly.
I don't know why e-on does not write their own code for importing Poser/Daz content, but instead rely on Smith Micro. Others such as C4D have others that write code like their "InterPoser" plug-in which works GREAT. If e-on would just do it themselves or let another 3rd party do it that may be the best. But for now, these are the issues to deal with and there are indeed many.

Playing with some daz animals, it appears the issue is not as prominent, but I am thinking that might be due to the nature of this particular animals texture...not sure....
One other thing I thought I would try is changing the scale settings in Vue 8.5i to .1 = 1 vue unit, like previous versions are set. This actually fixed the issues I was having because I no longer have to shrink imported objects down so much, nor scale them up too much. It's a better setting IMO. It just works better, and I am not experiencing any problems with atmospheres or other textures. This isn't really a fix I guess, but another work-around.
