Smith Micro Software, Inc. and the Poser team are pleased to announce that the Poser Pro 2010 Service Release 1 (SR1) is now available for both Macintosh and Windows. SR1 will update your non-beta version of Poser Pro 2010 English to the latest version 8.0.3.11916.

SR1 offers several enhancements and addresses known issues present in the following areas:

-     Rendering improvements

-     General performance and stability updates and improvements

  •     Content Library improvements

-     Python improvements

-     Material Room improvements

-     Animation improvements

-     Queue Manager improvements

  •     Rigging improvements

In order to download Poser Pro 2010 SR1 or receive technical support for the product, you must have registered your Poser Pro 2010 application serial number. If you have not yet done so, please register now at:  http://www.smithmicro.com/support/product-registration.aspx

With your registered Poser Pro 2010 serial number, you can access and download SR1 for

Windows: http://my.smithmicro.com/win/poser/updates.html

Macintosh: http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/poser/updates.html

Stuffit Connect name change note: The service has been renamed to SendStuffNow. Active accounts will automatically migrate to the new service, and support within Poser Pro is functionally the same as in its prior release, with the only change being the name displayed in the interface.

Recommended workarounds for known issues:

  • To improve rendering performance: Single-thread renders are less efficient than multiple threaded renderings. To reduce render times, enable multiple threaded rendering. Reduce bucket size to decrease render times.

SR1 Enhancements and Fixes, by category:

________________________________________________**

General

  • Improved conforming when the number of children does not match between object being conformed and body part being conformed to.

  • Figure->Create full body morph is now undoable

  • UI preferences were incorrectly written when shutting down Poser while it was minimized

  • Fixed instabilities when reparenting/rearranging objects in hierarchy palette

  • Uninitialized variable was causing occasional crash when new scenes were created. This could affect file new and walk designer

  • Menu commands for setting background and foreground colors work correctly

  • Fixed issues with out of sync app menu item states to improve Undo

  • Enabled Display Origin option.

  • Fixed case where automatic update check could cause instability (Mac OS X only).

  • COLLADA: Enabled Invert Transparency Map export option (Mac OS X only).

Library

  • Fixed library drag/drop of files and bitmap resource issues for files with non-western/non-ASCI characters in their paths

  • Support enabled to preserve added runtime libraries on external hard drives upon launch even after external drives are removed.

  • Fixed display of  “Add to Library” button in AIR library on Mac OS X.

  • Enabled drag & drop from Library when SreeD preview rendering is selected.

Material Room

  • Material room: Reflection_Lite_Mult now disabled by default for newly created materials. Existing files and content will not be affected.

Face Room

  • Resolved: Disabling superfluous app menu items could trigger crashes

  • Exporting textures from Face Room works correctly.

Cloth

  • Fixed case where cloth simulation with multithreaded bending enabled could cause instability.

Rendering

  • Faster raytracing in scenes with complex geometry

  • FFRender works properly on PowerMac G5 even when 64bit QTKit is missing (Quicktime update 7.6.6 on 10.5 omits the 64bit PPC version of QTKit)

Animation

  • Creation of extraneous key-frames on lights no longer occurs.

Queue Manager

  • Enabled multithreading configuration in Queue Manager preference file

Rigging/Set-up

  • International decimal point symbol changes caused influence zones to behave erratically in the joint editor.

PoserPython

  • Added new Python methods to enable/disable IDL from scripts.

  • Resolved: Python script dialog instabilities when running in 64 Bit.

PoserFusion

  • Fixed a problem writing .max files with embedded Poser scenes on 64 bit.

That did not help. The plug-in start but I can't load a Poser scene.
But no problem I use the InterPoserPro plug-in, that work and is always the better one!

This can't be right. Smaller bucket size always used to mean lower memory requirement but longer render times due to bucket management overheads. Please explain!

Kinda the same response after playing with SM about my camera problems. They told me it was a video hardware problem. Well new OS, new video hardware and a clean install of PP 2010 and guess what? The problem is still there.

The problem I am having is that when I have the library window up, and say I apply a pose, the library window will minimize to the tool bar and the pose will not take until I maximize the library window again then then pose will work. Same goes for conforming clothing, hair and any props that are parented to the figure. I also have cameras that will not rotate the screen when I use the dials for that camera. As a matter of fact outside of somethings that do work better I am having more problems then I did before I installed the update. No other apps I use gives me such fits only PP2010. So I don't know what to say all the necessary drivers for my graphics card are updated.

Windows 7 64-bit
GT240 1 gig video card
8 gigs ram on a quad core CPU.

Unlike Vue which has the ability to roll back an update without un-installing the program PP 2010 will now have to be un-installed and re-installed to get rid of this SR-1.

Poser Fusion can handle external Library Locations, but they must be available to the Host Application as well. Depending on your Operating System, this can be a Security Setting or Shared Setting.

This is a good test... Use Collected Scene Data and save to the Shared Folder and then open that one using Poser Fusion and see if the issue is resolved. If you do not want to mess with settings, you can do that to use Poser Fusion, or you can check your settings for your Library Locations to see if you can resolve the issue. I have seen this with a few users, but most were able to resolve either using the workaround or by adjusting Settings.

If you still have issues, Contact Support again and put attn John... I may have been the one to help, but I normally do not say that I can not assist because I can not duplicate. I normally ask for more details, since it is often specific factors that lead to this type of issue.

The hardest thing about dealing with issues that we only have one report is finding the cause. If it can not be duplicated, it is nearly impossible to find the cause. This is why it is important for anyone with an issue to report it. Sometimes it is a series of specific steps that you may not think twice about, that leads to the issue. That is why it is also important to be very specific about the steps.

Several of the weird ones have been found after a few additional reports. One I remember was a conflict with the default settings of one of the Free AV programs. The creators of that program told the user that they needed to buy the purchased version to be able to make changes to those settings. This helped several other users that reported the same issue. Some chose to change AV Programs, some chose to upgrade to the Paid Version, but all were resolved because of the feedback.

Poser Fusion only crashes in 64bit mode. There is a workaround to load the Figure in 32bit mode , save it as a c4d file and then to reload it in 64bit c4d.

Darboshanski ( ) posted Sat, 24 July 2010 at 12:46 PM

What is funny is when I try to grab a screen capture of these strange happenings for SM to see the problem corrects itself before the capture can get it. I think I'll just sit here working in PP2010 and when it starts acting up I'll grab the camera and take a video clip of it. Maybe it's the only way for SM to actually see the problem since it's hard to describe it.

Won't take serial on the SM site?
Just close down your browser and start again.
Seems if you made any error when entering the serial number or other info, this wrong info is cached in the browser... at least that's all I can think of.
I had this issue and could not get past the serial number entry until I restarted IE Explore.
Oh, another thing, some browsers, Chrome, Firefox etc, don't play nice with some web sites when entering serial numbers etc. So try IE instead.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sat, 24 July 2010 at 6:03 PM

I'm using Chrome and had no problems entering my serial number (well yes but that was because stupid me entered the Poser 8 serial at first L)

Once I found out that I'd thewrong Poser open.. it was a breeze.

Aeilkema.. what kind of feedback do you want?

I've been using it now for a day and hasn't found any bad behaviour, but on the positive note the joint editor is fixed.

Same problem with the SN in Firefox but it worked in IE when I retyped it, maybe something with JavaScript that often has issues with Firefox. And sadly SmithMicro uses it for the dialogue field to type the numbers in. Why not an update as the others before without SN? I'm unnerved to always find numbers for anything the whole day, when I phone with bank, with the telephone company etc.

I have already been all through this before with SM and tech support. And unless you are sitting right here with me when this all goes down there isn't much I can describe except to have a video camera running the whole time I am  working with PP2010. When I first brought this to the attention of SM's tech support I was using Vista 64-bit and a different video card. SM felt it was a hardware issue and wanted me to pull my card out and run PP2012 on just vista's video drivers alone. Then put my card back in and start from square one.....no improvement.

So now this machine has had Vista removed and in its place a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit
and a brand new video card. The same problems I had with Poser Pro 2010 using Vista and the so called hardware issue are still here. It is definitely an Open GL issue and it has to do with this floating library crap in windows 7 64-bit. All the trouble goes away when PP2010 is in Scree this is why I say it's an OpenGL issue. I find it confusing that my other apps that are OpenGL dependent i.e. Vue Infinite, have zero issues the older version of Poser Pro and Poser 7 have zero issues but when I run Poser 8 or Poser Pro 2010 I get all these strange, crazy conforming issues, crazy camera problems like half the screen will rotate with the camera and half will not and a bunch of other things I have already reported to SM already. We spend 3 weeks going back and forth on these issues and as I said unless someone from SM want to sit in my studio as we work with PP2010 to see this first hand there is not much I can say I haven't already. So I am at a loss...lol.
