Are you sure you didn't just accidentally close it down?Check in the Window menu at the top, there's a shortcut to open and close it and perhaps you hit that by mistake? I'm not at my Poser pc right now and I can't remember it, but.. worth a look :)

no, it's not closed.
as you can see, the window itself is there. but everything in it is not showing.

I see the space is there, but not the window.

Try adding it from top menu window -> libraries (I'm on poser pro 2010, but I guess it's the same in P8)

[edit]
shortcut is shift-ctrl-b

What puzzles me is that there's grey behind it. Usually when the library won't show due to firewalls or anything else, it has a lighter background there.

Have you changed ANY settings lately? Updated firewall or antivirus?
Did Windows do an update?

Since it has been there, something must have changed outside of

Poser to make it go away.

Do you get any error messages when Poser starts?

the window was there, but not its content.

anyway, i just turned the computer off and left it alone for an hour. now i restarted it, and it looks like the libraries are back! yay!

trekkie, i did nothing new on my computer, and it simply vanished in the middle of rendering. weird.
i do however, get this error message every time i load Poser. i've been getting it ever since SR3. i simply "ok" it, and get to work.

btw, i should mention that i hardly ever use P8 because it always freezes on me.
i only use it when i need to use the GI or something - and even then i set the scene and all in P7 and then render in P8.
P8 freezes on anything - even on a text box when i delete a figure and it iasks me if i really want to delete it. FREEZE.

Anat, have you tried to update your graphic card driver?

Last time I updated  Flash via the pop-up notification I lost the Library window. Direct download from the Flash site fixed it.

Off Topic I know, but a lot of people {cough} Steve Jobs, {cough} don't like Flash- is it a good idea to have the Library depend on it??

Vince, i have update my graphic card driver and windows explorer and flash and everything.. it's still no good for anything other than rendering, and sometimes it freezes when rendering too.

and i agree about having the library depending on flash.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2010 at 6:23 PM

The typical problem is a firewall causing interference despite the lack of a warning.  Double check your settings and make sure that Poser has allowable access to internet protocols.

A_ ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2010 at 6:30 PM

well, Poser is installed on a computer with no internet access at all..

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2010 at 7:47 PM · edited Sat, 21 August 2010 at 7:48 PM

With or without internet access, Poser needs to be able to communicate with your COMPUTER. This is seen as "internet activity" by some firewalls, so thinking "it doesn't matter what the firewall says since it's not necessary" may be wrong.

Assuming you're on Windows, try disabling the firewall completely. Suince the computer isn't connected to the internet anyway, it shouldn't matter. (How do you keep stuff like Windows and Flash ect updated without any internet access btw? Isn't that a hassle?)

Don't mind Windows telling you with big red flashing signs that your computer is not an open door. Without Internet, you've bricked it up anyway L

The error you got looks to my untrained eye a lot like the one you get when the firewall is blocking Poser from communicating with the computer. There are zillions of threads here about that already.

BESIDES that, Poser WILL throw you an error when you're not connected to the internet, because it assumes that Content Parasite can get onæine. It doesn't really matter, it's just that the search function (naturally) won't be able to access that either.

But The Library as well as Firefly will need access to some parts of the computer that is often mistaken for "internet activity" - in your case you can safely outrule that. It's not Poser trying to "Phone Home" it's just accessing the TCP port on the computer to communicate with itself.

As for Flash: Poser Pro 2010 uses Adobe AIR for the library. Default in the 64 bit version (as there's no 64 bit Flash ATM) and it can be turned on in the 32 bit version.

So Poser needn't be dependent on what some odd guy may or may not like. ;)

Had some trouble with the AIR-Library too.
(Using PPRO2010 SR1 on W7 64bit Ultimate)

4 days ago, i could not anymore bring the AIR-libray back to screen.
the window was there "minimized" in the taskbar, but clicking on it had no result,
except a short flashing.

Besides the AIR-Library i  use D3D's XL (prefered). So the evening the problem appeared i did'n care much about it.
Turning on my machine the next day the problem was still there.
Yeah, hunting time for the Scorpion (=Me).

With my experience, i know that often wrong settings in the initial files causes problems.

Found that:
C:UsersUserBAppDataRoamingLSMGUIAIR.64AAB1E9DCCE40D96A4E881F8BD26884D826DB32.1Local Storepreferences.xml

WITHOUT RUNNING POSER!
Deleted "preferences.xml" to recycle.bin for eventually later restoring, if things go worse :)

Starting Poser after that, my AIR-Library loaded normaly again.
And srry, i could not reproduce the error until now.
but the library still works fine :)

Maybe that coud help

BTW: i only once answered the qestion to windows wether poser has access to "internet"
or better said ip adresses in the local network, shortly after installation. Since that i had no probems with that.
Disconnection my local network from the internet has no influcence on how poser starts - wether its connected to the internet or not.

And i have another one for you - its about home-calling.
2 weeks ago, (normally i am always connected to internt,)
AIR popped up, with the friendly message it want to update itself.
Boahh nice i thougt - did i allow AIR anytime to look for updates, NO i didn't.
Because i did  a complete system image one day before i let it go. OK no negative
issuses, even after sys restart.
When i installed PP2010, i saw no option wether i want AIR look for updates.
Think i should check my IP-log how often AIR called home for upd info :)

Have you tried a fresh clean instal? Removing all from P8?

ok, i sure hope i'm not jinxing it now...
i eventually broke down and plugged the computer to the modem and downloaded every update possible (i think).
it seems to allow me to save renders now.
fingers crossed this is not jinxing it
i am not a superstitious person, except for when it comes to computers! i'll spit everywhere if it helps.
lol

seriously, i'm afraid to post this. :)
Vince, if it stopps working after this post, i might have to ask you to render for me!!!

Help!

No matter where I dock it or keep it floating-I've not been able to access the library.

jancory ( ) posted Sat, 11 September 2010 at 9:51 AM

don't know if this will help, but i had the PP2010 library disappear from my testing computer, not connected to internet, & it turned out somehow my IE had been set to 'work offline.'  when i unchecked that, the library finally came back.  (of course before that i had tried all the other things first with no luck).   very frustrating.

Th error message shown means that the Library can't connect to CP via the internet.

If you click OK, The Library should then work if everything is configured properly, but it won't if the firewall is blocking it....

No,  it's not  CP. It's trying to connect to localhost
"URL: http://127.0.0.1:11530/apps/lms/api.py"

If you check the similar error earlier in this thread there's CP's URL in the error message.

Hm.  Is there a way to get it to connect to the localhost? I updated windows xp last night and fiddled with the firewall again, and made sure that IE was working online, but still nothing.

I appreciate everyone helping!  Thank you.

First, thank you.  I totally forgot I was part of the forum there-and the search I did earlier was half-awake.   The first link helped, and when I got into the MSCONFIG I realized my Avast was blocking the connection-when I started it up in safe mode.

Working on fixing that-thank you again!
