Subject: Apollo Max

Hi everyone -
I've looked around pretty extensively with no success, and I'm wondering - has anyone ever seen a bodysuit made for Apollo Max?
I could sure use one, but if it's out there anywhere I can't seem to find it.

If you need a skin tight suit, why not paint a tex directly on the body?  A little displacement will get you some cloth thickness if that's what you need.  The advantages are:  No poke through and a lower poly count.

There was one planned (it was supposed to be in Part 4) but it was never released.

Might be able to make one with the grouping tool....

I'd go with SamT's suggestion tho ;o).

Couldn't you remove the head, hands and feet from the cr2?...Oh wait; with Apollo, you would have to deal with his bits, or the spot where they go, wouldn't you?....

Here is something that may fill the bill.

I've done the painting directly on Apollo's skin texture, and was somewhat satisfied with the results. However, when I did, I hadn't tried using a displacement map. It just hadn't occurred to me. Maybe I'll give that a try though.
As for the base suits Stepson, I've already looked into that, and it would probably work just fine, but I've never worked with anything like that before, and I'm almost too chicken to try it out. It may be beyond my humble skills as they exist now. I mean, in the product description it talks about rigging and such, and I know that that's waaaaaaay beyond what I know how to do at the moment. But really I've looked at them (as well as the ones for M4 and V4) and wondered to myself "How hard can it be?"
Aside from using Poser, I'm pretty adept at using Wings 3D, and I'm barely beginning the learning process for Carrara. I wonder.... I mean, as for my skillset, that'll improve. It's a constant learning process, right? But as for the software, the 3 programs I listed are what I've got. I can't afford to go out and pick up ZBrush or 3DS Max, or any other high-end program, so is what I've got, enough? I'm really don't know,

You should also look at Blender and GIMP, both opensource/free. GIMP is a Photoshop-like paint app, and Blender is a 3D powerhouse, and includes the ability to paint directly on 3d meshes, which will involve a bit of a learning curve, but you may find it's worth it in the long run (there are many Blender tutorials, most of which are in video form).

Aside from the one that came with the original Apollo, the updated version wasn't released.

BUT, pdxjims had a few that were available from OKCRandy's forums. Not certain if they're still available, but you could contact Randy via his store and find out.

And paganeagle had a "superhero suit" for Apollo made from pdxjim's bodysuit, too. He had it at his site; there might still be a link from the main Apollo page.

If it turns out that the old bodysuits that Jefsview mentioned are no longer around, I could probably model a new one fairly quickly and rig it with obj->cr2. But  I've always used the one I got on OKCRandy's forums and been fairly satisfied.

Are there any Apollo Max riggers floating around? Those who go beyond quick solutions like obj->cr2,  I've got a handful of capes and a few other things that I've modeled but never done anything else with.

Joequick, how difficult is it, really? I mean I'd like to learn a new skill, but I don't have an awful lot of free time these days. If it's something I might be able to learn fairly rapidly, I'd like to give it a go. And again, that is if the software I have is up to the task.**

Your freebies look very skillfully done.  Your expertise with Wings3d exceeds mine.  I tried wings a couple of times and gave up quickly because I found it unintuitive.  So I imagine you have the skill that you need.

If you don't require the convenience of having hands and feet on a basemesh, you might skip mine and pick up two of Phil C's products instead.  I'd be lost without Phil C's stuff. I still haven't learned how to rig the honest way.  I just use Phil C's obj->cr2 script.

So I'd recommend this:

http://istore.mikrotec.com/philc/index1.html?page=catalog&category=a&vid=2080245373&pid=2013762748&oldvid=2143420604

and

http://www.philc.net/OBJ2CR2_page1.htm

The scissors script mentioned on that page becomes fairly useless once you have an external modeling application. But the basesuits that come with his clothing designer can be morphed into practically any figure within poser, and then you can export that morphed outfit out of poser and edit it in Wings3d.  But I wouldn't know how to edit it in Wings3d.  I probably couldn't even fuse two spheres into a pair of goggles in Wings3d.

Phil C's obj->cr2 script can rig any article of clothing that only needs to move in the same way that a body movies, and thats shape isn't radically different.  So, it can't do a cape but it could  rig a basic body suit, and Phil keeps that script pretty up to date, so it can do Apollo, M4, or just about any other popular figure.

Finally, if nothing else, if you've got various character sets that your interested in, we could always work together.  You could do the prop elements and I could work on the clothing and morphs.

Apollo bodysuit geometry is in part 1 you should have it under RuntimeGeometriesAnton'sApolloMaximus and is called SkinSuit1APM05.obj, use apollo cr2 or the seed file provided by Anton and this geometry to have a working bodysuit, you can even translate Apollo body morphs with a morph translation tool like morphing clothes, it's very easy, but you must do it by yourself since Apollo licence doesn't allow distribution I think. there it is the scalp beard geometry and other clothes geometry not released too.

I got it- thanks Pitklad, and I just opened it in UVMapper.

And Joequick, thanks for your kind words! I went ahead and purchased the basesuit you made for Apollo and Athena, just because I'm so intrigued by all this, that I'd like to have a go at it. (who is Athena anyway? is she a counterpart for Apollo? I've never seen her before)

And thanks ima70 - I'm going to go back and look in my original Apollo downloaded files and see if I can find it.

Athena was produced by BVH Studios.  I was going to link you to her, but both bvhstudios.com and planetvixens.com seem to have gone the way of the Dodo. Proportionally she was almost identical to V4, just with a lower polycount and more detailed genetalia.  BVH used to make a lot of fetishware as well as a few more comic and fantasy inspired ensembles.  He had great Vampirella, Xena and Red Sonja outfits.
