Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 18 10:25 pm)
Depending on which skin shader you're using, you can adjust the PoserSurface.specular_value up for all of the skin areas, or whatever is managing that in the shader.

Noise or spot node in the alt specular channel perhaps?

(using Poser Pro 2014 SR3, on 64 bit Win 7, poser units are inches.)
Anthanasius has an infinitely more elegant solution than my suggestion: I'd be following that. You can't beat the skin shader that comes with VSS for versatility and flexibility.

Anthanasius could you please post a screen shot of the right side of that. I'm having trouble telling where to connect things?

There are something like 90 nodes there. You don't connect anything. That is my standard PR3 skin shader with no AO. Anth was showing what settings to use. Usually you only mess with the ones on the far left. But to get the gold shimmer, you want to change the color of the Blinn node so that was shown.
It's because the effect was produced with a metallic makeup. Metals produce colored specular reflections. Skin does not. So the skin shader usually has white in the specular color.
By the way, Anthanasius, thanks for posting it. I tried to do better than you did (before you posted) and failed. Being super busy with work, I was not able to continue experimenting. Your post was very much what I had come up with.
I think better is possible, but not without a completely different shader. And maybe it would even need some nodes we don't have in Poser.
While there are quite a few things we can do with the nodes we have, there are some effects that just cannot be assembled from those. The way light is reflected in this case is too different from all of the lighting nodes we have to produce a good match.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
The real problem with recreating that photo is that Poser doesn't have area lights. We sort of can have them with IDL, but it only affects diffuse reflection. Since the shimmer is all specular, we can't make it work in Poser. The highlights come out too small.

Just my luck. I have to pick the thing that can't be done for my picture. Maybe the vss shader can be used for now.
Thanks everyone

is there a way to make a shader that will make skin shimmer? Like the shimmering powder only all over.kind of like her eye make up but for the whole body and I can use any skin texture. This is for a race of beings and I'll need it for more than one model. of course being able to adjust the amount of shimmering so it can vary from person to person would be cool.
I hope I'm asking this clearly. I'm not sure I am.
Thanks for any help
