Well, now it's 3 questions!

I'm not sure I beleiev that R angel. I would have suppossed the most asked question waw ' what's the point of forum moderators'. But who knows. Ooops, I know, to ban replies they don't like.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Tue, 23 November 2010 at 12:36 AM

no, it's true.  the most asked question is "how do I install vickie in poser?".   they've got mods to protect us from ads, trolls, porno and that AFAIK.

KimberlyC ( ) posted Tue, 23 November 2010 at 6:12 PM

Apple_UK - the reason for this thread is that the most asked questions can go here, so that they are not asked so often. I don't see how forum moderators have anything to do with this thread.

Thank you miss nancy you are right on both your answers S

Believe or not there is a reason we are here, and its not to bother the members.

For new animators,

"Why has my camera/model gone mad?"

Answer, look at the graph editor, read up in "help" about tweening and keyframe interpolation.

Ok. I hope this fits in this post. If not, I'll just place it some where els.

Question. I have looked all over the internet and poser based (or related) sites for this. And can not find it!

Can anyone tell me where I can find a Kissing BVH (or motion) file. On renderosity, all we have is kissing poses (but no motions). Maybe I have over looked some sites or not looked good enough?

lesbentley ( ) posted Wed, 19 January 2011 at 12:06 PM · edited Wed, 19 January 2011 at 12:08 PM

One question that is askeda lot is:

"Why can't I save a prop as a smart prop?"

The usual reason for this not working is that you have used "Select Subset" when saving the prop. When the subset option is used, you won't get the option to save as a smart prop.

A related question is:

"How do I make a smart prop that contains multiple objects?"

Assuming that all the objects are part of a parenting chain that ultimatly links to one object, use "Select Subset" to include all the objects in one pp2 (prop file). Then open the pp2 in a text editor. Find the line that says "parent UNIVERSE" and change it to read "smartparent NameOfParent", eg:

smartparent rHand
or
smartparent head
or
smartparent box_1

Note that when you save the prop from Poser, you must have "Use file compression" turned off in your General Preferences. This ensures that the resulting file is a pp2, not a ppz.

I would like to understand what the single axis scaling issue is about (Poser 7).

and I've found that V4 and M4, when you scale their head, the inner parts in their heads don't scale with their head.  lower jaw, etc is under their head in the heirarchy, i don't understand why it doesn't work.

there is a headsize morph, that does the whole job, but i don't know how to convert the morph setting to percentage, so that i can match up conforming headware and hair with the scaling adjustments

That is actually a "MorphForm", which is the term DAZ use for the ERC master dials that manipulate/coordinate an appropriate set of other channels (in this case various scale channels) which may or may not include real morphs.

Quote - and I've found that V4 and M4, when you scale their head, the inner parts in their heads don't scale with their head.  lower jaw, etc is under their head in the heirarchy, i don't understand why it doesn't work.

Sounds like the propagating scale channels aren't present (i.e. were removed and replaced by the various MorphForms). > Quote - I would like to understand what the single axis scaling issue is about (Poser 7).

Assuming that the effect being described by where you picked up the term "single axis scalling issue" from, is the one I think it is, then if you scale the body of a figure in (say) the Y direction, everything is fine until you attempt to pose other actors like arms, which as they move up and down don't behave as you would want them to.
The other scaling problem, is that until a recent P8 SR, conforming items didn't track scale changes.

I very much doubt it, both because its an old version and a different company P7 was e-frontier, P8 is Smith micro and it took them up to SR3 to address that issue

is it possible to inject new material zones via a .pz2?

for example:  i painstakingly selected the collar from P7 Simon's P7 T-shirt and assigned a new material group.

when i save it, poser makes a new .obj in the t-shirt folder.

I would like to be able to share new material zone setups, legally of course.

Hay all,

been out ill and just started trying to use Poser 7 again.  My files are a real mess.  Has anyone come up with a really good program to help keep files straight.  I have tried a few of the old ones made for early Poser and did not really like them.  Has anyone tried Explorer 2 full version?  The free version will do some of the things I need to do.  I really have a lot of files.  I want to be able to move files in and out of the main runtime, is there an easy way to do that or am I barking up a dead tree????

the James pz2 file in Poser 7 question.

i unsquished the p2z file to read it.

It says to use the file to correctly set up James's channels for poser 7, and points to a python script under Utilities.

Which James cr2 do i use with the pz2?

there's james.pmd files in the Figure folder and one in the pose folder ?

I is a wee bit confunded.

I forgot to check if Jessi has the same situation.

more details to above post.

This is in the comments section:

#---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Run a python script to pre-create the morph target channels so they are created in the right place

(Poser 6 first release doesn't add the morphs in the correct order with the injectPMDFileMorphs command)

#---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

attach the NonGen targets to the same full body morph dials...Due to limitation of the Poser 6

release 1 and the python script needed above, we need to

manually set the number of deltas for the targets to prevent errors in the model...

'Cos sadly the cloth simulator is not up to the task. At least once you've conformed a clothing figure, you know there's a good chance that it will stay on the figure through to the end of the animation especially if your character is doing anything more vigorous than strolling along a path. I do like and use dynamic cloth where possible but too often I've had to abandon hours of calculation and tweaking time and revert to conforming to get a scene done.

Hi. Can anyone please assist me with this ...

Can I use Rendered output from Poser 8 in commercial projects even if the Poser props are used e.g.

  1. Using the supplied figures either modified or not

  2. If I create a new object from some of the primitives or just use the primitives themselves

  3. Other props

The Eula is not 100% clear to me on this one.

That would be a derivative work based on the "Restricted Content" as they call it, which is allowed by the Content-License (Around Chapter 2 in the Poser manual). They could indeed be more explicit about it, since they otherwise list any derivative work (eg scripts, shaders etc) explicitly.

Thanks Millighost. That's how it seems to read. It would be nice if they said in very plain English something like "If you make your own pictures - you can sell them"

The Poser cloth room and the Poser material room are, to many, quite enigmatic and confusing. It takes not only a burning desire to master these rooms, but for some, a sensible, minimalist step-by-step guide to work out the basics of these rooms.

For the material room, the best guide I can think of is Bagginsbill - he posts often here in the Poser forum and his pearls of wisdom on using the material room can be found by invoking search and his name. For the cloth room, what helped me get that first "aHA!" was guidance by KobaltKween which I've shared here.

Will a new Poser version support the DAZ Genesis 5 figures that DAZStudio 4 is going to support? I'm currently using PoserPro2010 on a Macintosh. I'm also using DAZStudio 3 Advanced, and thinking of downloading the DAZStudio 4 beta. I love Poser but I don't want to get behind in terms of technologies.

I want to link two props to a character's hand,  so that if I move the hand, the props will remain in place. They're a bracelet and a lock for the same. "Fit To" doesn't do it, and neither does "Conform To." Is there a way to do this with PoserPro2010?

Props require parenting to things, so parent the bracelet to the forearm or hand, then parent the lock to the braclet.

Nope, this does not work. I'm using the Macintosh version of PoserPro2010 (v 8.0.3.11916) on an Intel iMac with the latest OS (10.6.7). Don't know if that matters. I can parent these things, but when I move the hand or arm, the object remains where it was.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Wed, 18 May 2011 at 8:42 AM

Are you parenting them to the arm or hand, not to the whole figure?

inquire ( ) posted Wed, 18 May 2011 at 8:47 AM

Absolutely. I'm parenting to the forearm. If the object is further up on the arm, I parent it to the shoulder. But, no, these objects do not move if I move the figure, or its arm, or its shoulder.

I've been reading verything I can find to teach myself how to make conforming clothing and I think I'm finally getting it. (Well, mostly...) I'm wondering if there is someone who here who would test/look at my files to make sure that I'm not missing anything important or doing anything wrong.

I know I still need to tweak a couple of blend zones, but I'd like to get an official opinion at this point - just in case I need to scrap everything and start over, for one reason or another.
