I'm trying to rescale the P8 Alyson figure's head, and this is what I keep getting.  I've tried everything I can think of to fix the problem, but nothing works.  The bones and joints in the head seem set properly, and scale properly, and the geometry is grouped correctly, but the face just won't scale.

vilters ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2010 at 2:37 PM

Yep, that is correct.

Select the head.
Load a magnet on the head, default position is fine.
Set X,Y,Z on the manget tot 120 scale, and the head will scale normally.

Use add (in the magnet properties), to add the neck.
Spawn 2 morph targets, one for the head and one for the neck.
Deleet magnet, and you have 2 morphs for a scaled head.
One on the head, and one on the neck.

You will have to reposition the eyes manually, as they do not follow.
If you need the teeth, I wish you all the luck in the world , Sorry.

Or, work the other way around???

Enlarge the whole Obj?
Select the body, and enlarge.
Then reduce all other groups sizes??
Size the neck somewhere in between head and the rest of the groups.

That works OK, and Eyes and Teeth stay usable!

Ps; you only have to downsize chest, abdomen, waist, hip,
ONE collar, ONE arm-hand-finger, and ONE leg-feet-toes ( on the same side )
Use the "Figure Symmetry" Copy from - to" with joints,  to downsize the other half.

Good luck, will take about 15 minutes of concentration.

Thanks for the tip!  I thought of using a magnet, but I'm still learning about them, so my efforts weren't very good.

Now her head looks a little more proportionate to her body.

A couple of tips for using magnets. The Mag Zone determines the area affected by the Mag, with the Mag's influence falling off towards the edge of the zone. So if you wanted the whole head to scale evenly you would make the zone very large. Another point to conceder is that when you scale a Mag the scaling happens from the center of the Mag Base outwards. So moving the Base down will tend to raise the head, and moving the Base up will move the head down.

There is a good tutorial on using magnets at PhilC's site.

Thanks all for your help, figured out how to fix the scaling issue though.

There's a line of code in the cr2 just after the scaling data, something about smooth scale Z for the tounge.  Removed that line and the head scales fine now.

That's a new one.   Could you also flag your discovery to the Poser support folk over at Smith Micro ?

Amazing, but true. I just tried it myself.

By deleting the block from line 21375 that looks like this:

smoothScaleZ Tongue_smooZ

{

name Tongue_smooZ

initValue 0

hidden 1

forceLimits 0

min -100000

max 100000

trackingScale 1

keys

{

static  0

k  0  0

}

interpStyleLocked 0

smoothZones -100 -99 0.00376788 0.0110949

otherActor Tongue1:2

flipped

calcWeights

}

Her head actually scales quite normally, only the lower jaw is still a little "behind", since it also has a smoothscale to fit the neck.

If THAT block is removed as well (I tried it), the whole head scales nicely, BUT will no longer fit properly on the neck. So i'd leave the smoothscale on at the next joint part.

Does Ryan have the same problem?

David 3 had a problem with scaling his hands, but one could upscale the whole figure, and then down scale all other parts of the figure.

Uhm I haven't checked Ryan. I've never had the need to scale their heads...

And I've never had a problem with David's hands, and I've used that figure a LOT.. are they too large or too smal?!

That's the block all right.

Ryan doesn't seem to have this problem, in fact, looking at his cr2 was how I figured this out myself.

TG:

Whenever I try to scale David's hands bigger or smaller, the fingers break. Hiro3 and Aiko3 too.

I always had version 3 DAZ figures hands get their fingers broken when i used poses not meant for them. There is a pose file out there for fixing broken fingers. Cant remember the name of it though.
