I successfully ran Poser Pro 2010 on my PC and it operates fine, but when I load figures and other programs, they don't appear in Poser when I look for them in the libraries. They are in the proper folders. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You will definitely need to provide more information about which operating system you are using and where your PP 2010 is installed.  There are numerous threads about this very same problem.

I,m using Windows 7 and it is on an external harddrive (P: to be exact). I didn't realize there was a problem until I read your posting. Thanks.

Generally Poser does not play nice when installed to an external hard drive. The flags that get set upon installation get lost when the drive is removed or the computer is shut down, (usually). It is best to install the main application to C:Program Files then have your libraries elsewhere, such as an external drive, if required.

It sounds like you need to add the new libraries as detailed on page 92 in Chapter 7 of the Poser manual. I suspect that you are just looking at the library that got installed by default which may not be the one within the application runtime.

Yes it probably will, in both cases when you look in the library you'll be looking at the default, whatever that was as selected in your installation choices.

If you have installed your new content (correctly) to this default library then you should see it. If you have installed it somewhere else, (but possibly not realizing that it was not to the default library), then you will not. In which case you need to add that new runtime using the "add library" icon in the library pallet.

The default Poser installer will place the application in:-
C:Program FilesSmith MicroPoser Pro 2010

If you selected the content to be placed in the traditional or local location it will be in:-
C:Program FilesSmith MicroPoser Pro 2010Runtime

If you went with the default library location it will be in:-
C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsPoser Pro ContentRuntime
and it will be this library that will be visible when you first open Poser.

There may be slight variations in the above, I'm using Windows XP, but the principles will be the same.

May I please ask therefore:-

1. What is the path to your Poser application folder?
2. During installation where did you select the Poser content to be located?
3. What is the path to the runtime of the newly installed content that you have difficulty finding?
4. Have you used the "Add Library" icon in the library pallet?

Hm are you sure about externals being a problem, Phil? I've ALWAYS (well for the past 6-7 years at least) had my Poser on an external harddisk and I've never had any problems whatsoever with it. As long as it's installed properly (and that only goes for Poser 7 and up, in the older versions you could just copy the Runtime over to a new disk and it would still work)

You should make sure it always gets the same drive letter of course, otherwise Poser WILL get confused. But... Well mine's primarily on its own harddisk because I ran out of space (slots) inside the puter L AND because I like the option - although rarely used - to take it with me and use it on my laptop.

OTOH installing Poser into Program Files in Windows 7 could mean trouble from what Iv'e read here. Since mine has never been there, I can't really say :)

windows 7 UAC is probably the issue (again). any folder tagged Program Files or Program Files (86) is protected by it.

basically, UAC is designed to prevent Programs being rewritten on the fly as a security measure. unfortunately, it can cause issues installing content to poser, since that is exactly the behaviour it's designed to prevent.

You may be getting this message because I think the installer only looks for Poser.exe and not PoserPro.exe. If you make a copy of the PoserPro.exe file and rename the copy Poser.exe, V4 will probably install okay.

Actually, that sounds like the previous installer for V4. A newer one was released this year that lets you install V4 wherever you want. Then, most of the ExP installers will install to where V4 was installed. What you will run into is when the ExP installer wants both V4 AND the poser.exe file. You will need a file named poser.exe at the runtime level where V4 is installed for those. I have also found that for PP2010, these installers will not accept the PoserPro.exe; it needs to be named poser.exe explicitly, either copied from a Poser# folder or an empty file named poser.exe. My information here comes from a very recent reinstallation of V4 to get everything into a single location.

I use Poser since version 2 to Poser pro 2010

I try to never install programs in C:  just OS (Windows 7 64 bits now) , some utilities and some ini file or parameters the softs need to install in a folder like C:UsersNameAppData 

  It is better to have a smaller C  for backup system and install softs and saved data on another drive .All my poser scenes are saved in F : 3d data and some subfolders . Some think  softs need to be installed in c:Program Files or c:Program Files (x86)  It is false. You can install in C if you want but it is not necessary

I have  three versions of Poser and runtines installed on D ,E ,and F without problems with files

Never try to load Poser from external drive except sometime with Poser 7 . I  have tried  to load Poser 7 with this drive connected to my friend system (To show him what is Poser) And Poser load without problem

Shut down Poser and restart.  That's what I always do!
