Subject: Help!!!! creating spawn morphs for body

Zev0 ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2011 at 3:24 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 12:04 AM

Hi guys. Now I can create a head morph for v4 in Zbrush and import it into poser, dial to 1 and it works like a charm. but I cannot for the body. My question is this, must I click on the body part and export them seperately eg abdomen, edit the abdomen in zbrush and re-import when selecting abdomen? because if I click just select body, and import it gives an error? Some advice would be nice. thanks. Also, what must be checked, unchecked when exporting to obj in poser? Do I keep groups or just export as a spawn morph?

Netherowrks has a script that if you have the body part names in the geometry file it imports across multiple body groups. Works like a champ. Use it all the time after I  pick a single frame like frame 25of25 of a cloth sim of hybrid cloth item and export and then bring back in as a morph target for the original conforming cloth.

from the description

Morph IMP loads each object into the scene temporarily and transfers its shape to the target figure.  If the object represents a single body part it spawns that as a morph.  If it represents more than one body part, morphs are spawned throughout the figure and master, full body dials are created.  Objects are removed from the scene after their shape is transferred.

If you are going to do this a lot, this is a huge time saver.

iF your using p6 or poserpro there is a free script "MorphFromOBJP6.py" can't remember who made it. It don't work in p7 don't know about p8 but it is a must have for full body morfs from zbrush

When I export obj files from Poser for use as morph targets, I only use the options "As Morph Target..." and "Include existing groups"  (see image above).

"Include existing groups" is not needed for an MT, but can be  handy if you ever want to import the obj and use textures on it.

As you guessed, Poser needs a separate morph for each body part (actor). So yes, if you morphed the base figure obj in ZBrush, you need some way of splitting it into individual groups, one for each actor in the cr2.

I have never used Netherworks script, but it sounds like a handy thing to have. An alternative, if your figure contains blank targetGeom (morph) channels for delta injection (eg DAZ PBMCC_## channels), is to use the free "Pozers Little Helper" (PLH) to produce INJ//REM files from the morphed base figure obj. You can then inject the morphs into the base figure as and when needed. I generally prefer this solution to what the Netherworks script does, put it's a question of what aim you are trying to achieve. If you only want to save the figure to disk with all the custom morphs in it, then Netherworks script may be the best solution. If you want to load the morphs into the figure as and when needed via an INJ file, then PLH is a better solution (and free).

"Morph IMP" will get the morphs out of a full (or partial?) body obj, and put them into a figure, but without making an INJ file. "MorphFromOBJP6.py" mentioned by motox, is an excellent script for getting morphs out of a figure and into an INJ file, for instance after you have used "Morph IMP". PLH is excellent at taking a full (or partial) body obj, and putting morphs directly into an INJ file, but you then have to apply the INJ to get the morphs into a figure. To my mind PLH sounds most appropriate in this case.

I just bought morph-imp...its nice:) Loads all my moprhs at once. I will check out Pozers little helper aswell. My aim eventually was to have the new morphed figure load as a inj file. One click and then my standard figure will load all the morphs.. So I take it "Pozers little helper" will take care of that? Will it give me options like when I by a venders product, to add or rem inj.?

Yes, "Pozers Little Helper" (PLH) and "MorphFromOBJP6.py", will make both INJ and REM files. PLH can also make make "vis" files, and has some other extra options not included in "MorphFromOBJP6.py". Personally I don't need the extra options in PLH, but some might like them.

My advice is. If you want to create INJ and REM files from a morphed obj file use PLH. It takes a bit of setting up the first time you use it, and it's not the easiest app to understand, there is a learning curve, but once understood, it produces good results.

On the other hand, if the morphs are already in the figure, use "MorphFromOBJP6.py" to produce INJ and REM files. It's quick and simple to use. Of course if you are starting wit an obj, you could use "Morph IMP" to load the morphs into the figure, set all the imported morph's dials to a value of one, then use "MorphFromOBJP6.py", to make the INJ and REM, but that's usiing two applications to do what PLH can do on its own.

lol well I just spent money on morph imps, so it would be a waste not to use it. Also does "morphfromOBJp6.py work for poserpro2010? It is a P6 script after all? The link posted in this thread takes me to spawncharecter.py? Same app?

This goes in main runtime after posrscripts.. You can save to any runtime.

Cool thanks. I prefer not running pythons installed in my runtime. Half the time they don't show up in the scripts menu. I run those that do not need to be installed, from a folder on my desktop. I'm hoping this will work outside poser :)
