Okay, exported with no major issues, need to check a thing or two in my scene, but when I tried a Save All (needed to tweak a couple things) I get -

Wow...looks really good :).
Wax shouldn't be that hard with LuxBlend. The hard part will be how to write the xml so that it works...lol.

I would think glossy translucent, except that the specular on the P2L preset is a bit too shiny. Should have an interior scattering though. At least, I think so...lol.

That goes triples for me: haven't gotten close to anything as nice as any of you on here. Think I need to pull the finger out, stop playing with Drupal and start being part of this again! I am so impressed with what everyone has been able to create, whether materials, images or applications. Good ON you!

i just used the freebie skullprop from here & spawned props, set the flame bit as an emitter with its image & transparency, & exported. the credit should go to the propmaker really, his flame texture is right nice. may try next to split off the wax part & doodle around with some waxy effects. but thanks! this'll probably work for some stained glass ideas i've got too.

Where as I am having issues with the flame map not loading at all on mine, got frustrated and shut it all down last night rather than get angry with it.
Could you post a screen shot jancory of how it is set up in yours? This way those of us who are having issues might be able to see where it is going wrong?

ok, will post a screenshot after these thunderstorms roll thru (tho it's simply the image map connected to diffuse & transparency, transparency at 1.0, ambient at 1.0/white) i was pleasantly surprised that the transmap carried over into lux, wasn't sure it would. i'm assuming it's still true that emitters can't be parented to anything without everything in the parent turning into an emitter too?

you need to fiddle with the gain in lux til the flame looks right. & turn down any other lights in the scene. i also added some blackbody color to the flame, but it doesn't show much. it also doesn't seem to throw a circle of light like a real candle would, maybe i need to find an IES pattern that'd simulate that.

It does create the .lxs file, but Lux will not load it without aborting.

Ha ha! You'll probably not believe this, but *I* haven't changed that bit of code for many versions now. BUT ... my cat has :-)She walked across the keyboard the other day while I was working on Pose2Lux, causing havoc. I didn't want to lose what I'd been working on by reloading the file so I resorted to using a lot of 'Undo's to get back to where I'd been. I think I was one 'Undo' short :-D
That line of code is correct in all the versions prior to my cat's sabotage attempt!
Anyway, I've put it back to how it should be in 0.3.9

Unless I turn off the infinite or the point light, the flame appears black, although it shows transmapped. Turning the infinite or point light down doesn't help.
If I try to use linear tonemapping, no amount of gain will make the flame emit, even if I turn off the point light and turn the gain on the flame the whole way up. It does work in AutoLinear, but then it doesn't respond to the gain being turned down and I still have to turn off the point light.
I have the transparency map plugged into transparency (1.0) in Poser and the color map into the diffuse (1.0) Ambient is at 1.0.
I made the candle model myself and the two perpedicular planes on which the flame is mapped are two-sided. Technically, they should throw light out both sides of the plane. I have the candle model if anyone wants to give it a shot.

see if your emitter is set to 0 watts, gain, or efficiency. i had the same problem & it took me 2 days of frustration to find that was my problem. now they work as expected. going to try laurie's candle next. & yeah--blame it on the poor cat!

Only Auto Linear and Constrast seem to work here, but twitchy. Exporting a different scene that has flames as emitters going to try it again.
Also, all my emitters are being grouped together as default now. Hmmm. The scene has four separate emitters in it. P2L isn't spitting out any errors at me now though LOL!
If you want Laurie I'll give it a go.

The grouping is deliberate, and is a behaviour change in recent versions of Pose2Lux.
Grouping is now done by assigning the emitters to the same groups as those defined for other light sources. New groups can be created on the 'Lights' screen.

There's no need to have no lights. You need a light to see what you're doing on the Poser preview screen.(I'd have thought)
Make a light and call it 'ignore:Light 1' (the important bit is the 'ignore:' prefix - the last bit can be anything you want.
Any light with an 'ignore:' prefix is automatically put in the 'ignore' light group and not exported.
Then you get the option to create light groups too :-)
Btw, you can use the prefix technique to create arbitrary light groups in Poser. Just use the convention 'groupname:light name' on a Poser light and the appropriate group(s) will be created for you.

And the gain on the emitter is cranked up to over 1000. I did adjust the black body temperature down to about 1800 ish too.
Those settings are not nuts at all. You've only got a half second exposure. I recently took a picture with my camera of a skull and candle, with an exposure of 11 seconds!

Gee, looks almost like the top of my dresser did until kids, add a big amethyst point and a hand carved box with my much abused Aquarian tarot in it and it would be just about spot on. Now it is covered in grubby fingerprints and whatever new art project that they have brought home. I guess I should have said, if you are going to use candles as emitters expect to significantly adjust for them.
Anyone have any thoughts on the 'circle of light' for them? IES? I think Xase mentioned having made one?
IES is overkill and inappropriate - the light distribution of a candle is nearly uniform, once you get about 5 inches from the flame. IES does not model the shape of an emitter - it models the focusing of light from an enclosure (real ones, actual products you can buy), using an idealized sphere shape as the emitter. There is no enclosure focusing the candle light, therefore no need for IES.

i should've remembered that from my electrical engineering days designing parking lot lighting. i'm getting the same results as Laurie on the flame, inbetween thunderstorms & Lux-weekly-build crashing on me. but i'll keep trying, since it's obviously doable & i really need that candle for a render.

I'm anxious to see the Lux-ish (i.e. no hack) way to do wax, but...
If you have to do a glowing candle for a commercial project with deadline, have you seen my Poser candle shader? I have no doubt that we'll see better results shortly with Lux candles, but right now you can get candles that look like Snarly's photo in Poser.

I was familiar with your work on candles over at RDNA. Pretty impressive stuff, as always.
We're all just guessing at things here though as our understanding of Lux materials grows from 'utterly lacking' to 'negligible' LOL!
Feel free to throw in the odd pointer though - any help will be appreciated.
