Why bother with a chat room if it don't work!

It worked the last time I tried it. In fact I'm in it now!

it was always kinda creepy when I tried it.  no mods, hence "anything goes".  give them time to replace it.  never was a good deal IMVHO.

Last time I went to the chat room, everyone left.   True story.

we could make this a chat thread.  e.g. having done cartoon parodies, I always wanted to ask what jughead is doing when one zooms out on yer icon, cage.

That's not Jughead, but Edmond Curse, who is possibly either my Bat-fiction Mary Sue or my fictional Evil Twin.  Here's the full image.  Edmond and Jughead have met.  Jughead took his beanie back, which created some confusion because then no one could tell the difference between cartoon Cage and Edmond.  And we're so totally off-topic now that I must apologize to the OP.  Sorry, sorry.  😊

I have to disagree to an extent. Yes, I've seen some people go way out in left field with some topics, but most of the time, the few of us that frequent the room, try to stay productive, and even help people when we can when they pop in with questions.

And I also must add, if it wasn't for that chat room, I wouldn't be nowhere near where i am today. The people I met there last year have guided me through many obsticles along this year long jouney.

So I guess it can be a double edged sword. Some people may abuse it, but those of us who use it for what it was intended, it can be a powerful tool.

They could consider making a room mod or something, I dunno, just a thought I guess.

I don't mean to sound like I'm being short with anyone, but I would certainly say that anyone who has been in the chat recently and says that it works has -not- tried to say anything in the chat room.

Well, that, or they clicked on the link, saw that it loaded the chat (and heard the ding-dong sound), and exited, seeing no one in the chat room, but still figuring "well, it works!".

And heck, I'd nominate Bio to be a mod as well. He's in there more often than I am. When it works, that is.

yeah, but when there's no mod, it's possible to wreak havoc. not that anybody would do that, mind ye.  but I did find out one thing in the chat room - why users here don't like "the simpsons" .  it was due to the deadly nature of nuke meltdowns.  joking about that is like joking about the holocaust or nakba - just a real bad idea IMVHO.  it's probably illegal in some countries.

Oh no!!!  Me! Me! Me!!

Back when I got my computer in 2000, I didn't now a single thing about them. I didn't even know the proper way to turn one off. I was always just pressing "off."  I was so lost with the computer and how to do things and desperately needed some help.

My browser at that time was set to MSN (I guess that was default), and I remember seeing a "Chat" link, so I clicked it. I soon found myself in the wonderful, and yet very weird, world of online chat.

I found a "room" that didn't have an intimidating name and clicked on it and proceded to explain that I just got a computer and didn't know anything about them and had some questions.  People were nice enough to take me under their wing and help me out.  Eventually I found myself stopping in for more than just computer related stuff, and joining in the chat a little.

Over the course of 6 months I guess, I went onto create and run one of the most successful privately run chat rooms on MSN Chat!  And for the most part people were pretty well behaved.

So far as the chat room here, I went into it a few times but either no one else was in there, or the few that were there were extremely rude and didn't even talk to me when I tried to talk to them.  So I never bothered to check it out again.

I think Chat here would be great if it actually had a purpose. For example, a weekly, moderator run, interview with someone from the 3D industry, or an artist, or a modeler.  Perhaps even a weekly lesson on something graphic related, such as composition, modeling, etc.

Well thanks for calling me a Liar. When I posted that first response I was indeed in Chat and I spoke to BionicRooster at that time in fact! I'm not saying it's in perfect working order, but I didn't just poke my head in and then leave before making my post. What I did notice not working was the list of Chat Room Participants on the right side of chat was empty, but typing a message and hitting send worked for me.

I'm not saying you specifically. I'm just finding that a lot of the time, a problem is reported and one person finds it works for them, and then the issue gets dismissed.

what I found was that, when I try to use chat, I get a dark grey screen with "error.php", but apparently I appear in the room to those who can use it.  however, I can't see the room.  it may be a browser issue.

uncle808us - you have already posted about this in the Community forum. Stacey has said she is looking into a timeline. Currently TN is having some very bad storms so things may get a little behind. I believe I read online that around TN, KY, and OK.. they had 23 tornado spottings.

the deal with the mods: they gotta have a 4-shift rotation - at least 4 mods on staff.  if they only got one who can stand to go in there and get it started .....  it's not enuff.  it just leaves it wide open for all kinds of lousy behaviour that drives users away IMVHO.

p.s. I hope y'all will be safe from those tornadoes.  this year seems much worse than in the past, due to global warming.

Out of curiosity I tried to open Chat in Opera.  It don't work.

Last time I used it I was on Exploder.  I used it as part of my Moderator training.  Ain't really tried it since then, IIRC.

Ah!  I hit reload three times and it's now showing up properly.  I'm the only one in there, though.  Graphics keep disappearing.

Not a very satisfactory result.

chat was good for problem solving, no delays in reading a forum.

I dont understand why its select chat from a menu, be redirected or something, have to click a link and then have chat open in a new window where it doesnt work , copy the url , kill the window and then start it again from the url

Why not just go straight to the chat url ?

Tried it last night and it was maybe running, no user list , and erratic posting with odd stuff like POST ADVERT   or somesuch.

Yeah I saw you pop in, I was the one who said "howdy" lol

It's been showing "SHOW ADVERT" every few minutes or so ever since the problems started with the chat, maybe codeig was changed to add a new Advertisement message and something went haywire from that. Who knows, just a random guess.
