Subject: Library Fault notice displayed instead of Poser 8 library

Plutom ( ) posted Wed, 21 October 2009 at 10:17 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 1:06 PM

Hi gang, if you get a fault notice instead of the Poser 8 library-the one docked on the right side listing all your poser 8 contents (figures, pose, face, hear, hands, props etc.  You will need to connect to the internet to fix the problem.  The fault indicates an http address that it is trying to find and can't off line.

I got this when I was checking out the Wardrode wizard and converting a P6 Jessi dress to P8 Alyson.  That portion worked great.  However, I didn't see new file WW P8 Alyson with the converted Jessi dress.  So I closed P8 and brought it up again and got that error message.

Bottom line do that if you ever get that message!  Jan

Nope. The Library GUI talks to Poser locally, over the loopback connection, not over the Internet. TCP is not equal to the Internet.

I explained in many threads and am not going to explain it again.  I just don't want people to start freaking out about P8 requiring Internet access again.

The Library does not connect to anything on the Internet.

By analogy, if you're in your bedroom, you have to go through the bedroom door to get into the hall, as well as to get out of your house. Opening the bedroom door is necessary whether you're going into the hall or going to the airport. But to get to the airport, you have to go outside your house as well. Your TCP loopback is like the house, and the Internet is like outside your house. Poser doesn't go outside your house.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

SORRY!

So the solution is?

Poser does look to the net (even though it doesn't require internet access), but only for Content Paradise, and if there is no connection then it does show an error dialog box in the library, so it can look like the library is trying to connect to the net even though the library itself isn't trying to go online. Click ok and the error message should away and Poser will work just fine offline.

ok. lets clarify what is happening

for communications, a protocol called TCP/IP is used. now, simply, this is used on 3 levels - internally never leaving your PC, your home network never leaving your house and for the internet.

most Firewalls do not tell the User which level the request is being sent on.

for the Library and to render, Poser is requesting internally only. no network or internet connection is required. at all. just internal access.

On start up, Poser will request access to the network to check for other running copies of poser with the same serial number. not the internet.

to use the CP tab or if you leave "Check for update" ticked, then you will requiring an internet connection, but only then.

I hope this clarifies what happens.

Airport security is a burden we must all shoulder. Do your part, and please grope yourself in advance.

So what do we do if we get the fault message and a reboot does not fix it?

PhilC ( ) posted Sat, 14 May 2011 at 3:02 PM

OK....

Opened Internet Explorer
Entered known URL
Got message that I was off line and needed to connect.
Connected.
Closed IE
Reopened Poser, libraries back as they should be.

Posting mainly so that next time this happens I'll be able to search the forums and quickly be reminded of the solution.

I had the same thing happen recently.  First time though.  Wouldn't connect to the network at the time, either. I THINK what happened is my ferret pulled the plug out of my router because I wasn't giving her enough attention (not exaderating, she actually does that).  I open the browser and it defaults to offline mode.  Since Windows is a big, veiny intertwined machine something wondrous and magical happens and other things get all screwy because it is working offline.  I open Poser and the library doesn't work because  of aforementioned magic.  I plug the router back in, deselect "work offline", and now everything works fine.

I don't know whether or not this is accurate, but worth a shot. Makes sense to me though because of the above posts on internal TCP connections, but I try not to figure out how Windows does that stuff because when I do it usually leads to a lot of swearing and a total system reinstall.

Oh wait, sorry PhilC.  that's pretty much what you just said.  Nevermind then.

What he said!  Whether connected to the internet or not, the error occasionally pops up for me (no real pattern per se). I just click okay, then go rebuild a car engine while the library finishes loading. shrug
