Subject: Antonia - Opinions?

SaintFox ( ) posted Sun, 03 July 2011 at 5:50 PM

You are very welcome!

As said: This is not the only way to set up materials for the eyes. I do in no way claim this to be perfect. This setup is, if I remember right after countless experiments, 75% bagginsbill and 25% me (but I am not completely sure). This looks best if you blend sclera and iris a bit when creating the textures and the bumpmap is, at least for close-ups, essential for a natural result (like you can do with this sclera with the hole in the middle in the LD-set).

About the WIKI: I have no idea how to use it... 😊

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

Well, it made all the difference. I did recognise BB's Pr2 eye shader in this, and yes, a lot of your own goodies. All of your textures are excellent. I'm doing a render atm in PP2010 with only skin shader connected to diffuse_color, and diffuse_value set to .8. Simple-simple.

This figure poses like nothing else in Poser... I feel a bit silly coming into this at such a late point in time, but I'm abyssmally slow at things so I guess it's better late than never. I still owe Snarly my first effort at code... it is happening, but I keep getting distracted. 😊 Like with this. The bending is - particularly at shoulders/armpits and at the thigh/hip junction - simply incredible.

As an incredibly wise person told me just very recently: "Antonia might be the future of Poser..." ... I agree, so far, this is the best there is!

Where from here?

LOL Thanks a lot for the nice words!! Or as we say here: The most important thing is that you are having fun. And you are not very late. There are a lot of people who downloaded all the Antonia content but still do not dare to touch her in Poser. Funny enough is that it all seems to depend on commercial support. Strange enough as there are new free goodies for our girl each few days.

@rjjack:i've donloaded the new dress and hope to get a chance to try it later.

It's been a busy weekend and a headache hit and due to that I made a major boo boo. In trying to make sure my daughter had enough groceries for the week, I failed to nitice that it will put me in a spot.

Now I've got to figure how to raise enoght to ge tme out of trouble...sig.

that means less time to do my 3d stuff once again. I do, however, have an updated render of the silver and gold texture set. If time permits I will post it tonight. :)

What a perfect combination... Antonia and dynamic cloth:

Cloth folds

Yep, need to work on her skin shader a bit: she needs makeup and jewellery too. But I was obsessing on the extreme pose and the cloth behaving. Antonia is up to it, and so is the cloth. Poser, this is a new day for you! No more limiting poses because the figure isn't up to it, or the cloth item. :woot:

Awwww... your enthusiasm is so sweet!!! Jewelry and makeup guides (all on seperate layers by sazzyazzca) can be found on Antonia's freestuff. And of course all kind of propped jewelry can easily be fitted to Antonia. But I know that what you really want is this freebie:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=30357

and all the other free goodies by Stegy.

If I take your image as an example you would simply add the dynamic necklace, position it around the neck (take care that it doesn't intersect anywhere!) and run 20-25 drapeframes, nothing else. Unfortunatly this may damage the way the dress looks.

But there's a workaround - I explained it here in the technical notes

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2213925&user_id=78941&np&np

(with a different necklace but that's not important, both, the free one and the one in the image work likewise).

I'm in the process of making a morph for Antonia.  I think I have found the true height of Antonia by comparing her with myself.  It seems that Antonia is about 1.87m in height where I'm about 1.7m in height.

Antonia's Height

Quote -

Antonia's Hight.
(or "Useless Fact for the Week")

I wanted to make some poses with Antonia sitting in a dining chair. The seat of an average real dining chair seems to be about 17 and a half to 18 inches off the floor. I have a chair which is at that scale in Poser inches.

Obviously when using furniture and architecture props in Poser, it is convenient to size them to real world scale in P6 inches (or mm). Unfortunately most Poser figures are not made to a real world scale, Antonia is just over six feet tall (V4 is roughly six foot and four inches). The average West European woman is about 5'5" (five foot and five inches). So although Antonia is a runt compared to V4, she is seven inches taller than the average woman. This means that if I want to have Antonia looking like an average sized woman compared to correctly scaled props, I have to scale Antonia down.

I made a table of the scale factors that need to be applied to her BODY to make Antonia different heights. To be technically correct, what I actually measured was the altitude of the top of Antonia's head under a certain set of conditions. You may not agree that my methodology for making the measurements gives a true value for her hight, but it is in the "ball park". More on my methodology later. Here is the table:

Hight          Scale                Hight in mm
in feet        of BODY
                  actor

6' 2"           102.492000     1879.6 mm
6' 0.2008"  100.000000     1833.9 mm
6'                99.722000      1828.8 mm
5' 10"         96.951800       1778 mm
5' 8"           94.182000       1727.2 mm
5' 7"           92.797000       1701.8 mm
5' 6"           91.412000       1676.4 mm
5' 5 1/2"     90.719400       1663.7 mm     [average South Africa]
5' 5"           90.026600       1651 mm        [average W Europe]
5' 4 1/2"     89.334000       1638.3 mm     [average Canada, U.S.A.]
5' 4"           88.641500       1625.6 mm
5' 3"           87.256500       1600.2 mm
5' 2"           85.871500       1574.8 mm     [average Japan, China]
5' 1"           84.486500       1549.4 mm
5'               83.101500       1524 mm         [average India, Vietnam]
4' 10"         80.331500       1473.2 mm
4' 8"           77.561500       1422.4 mm

Methodology:

We should be aware of the distinction in Poser between the 'Floor' and the 'GROUND' plane. The Poser 'Floor' is at zero altitude. The Poser 'GROUND' plane is slightly below the floor at -0.001 PNU (about -0.1032 inch, or -2.62128mm).

Antonia was loaded in P6, then odf's 'Attention' pose was applied. Applying this pose does not change the altitude of the head, but it does put the bottom of the feet slightly below the floor, and even very slightly below the GROUND. The result is that if you use a floor prop at zero altitude, the feet look natural (to me), like the heel is slightly compressed by contact with the floor. Or, if no floor prop is used, the bottom of the feet look about level with the GROUND.

Next I loaded a Poser square primitive and set Antonia's Figure Parent to be the square. Scaling the square now scales Antonia, whilst keeping the same part of her feet at floor level.

This is the set up used to determine Antonia's "hight". It is also the reason you may not think my measurements are correct. Remember the bottom of her foot is slightly below the Floor. If you apply 'Drop to Floor', she raises up by about 0.001218 PNU (0.125691 inch, or 3.192543mm). Thus using 'Drop to Floor' would give a slightly different value for the "hight" at any given scale.

The average female heights for different countries as quoted above, come from WikipediA, and should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm in the process of trying my hand at creating skullcaps.

Here is what i've got so far for Antonia. As you can see it needs to be smoothed at the hairline.

Now can someone explain how to do that, please, please?

I have Silo learning version, Wings 3d and Blender and I also have Hexagon 2.5 which isn't installed yet.

Me too.  I don't know what the skullcap for.  For growing hair in Poser's hair room?  As I know, there are 2 types of hair, one is the conforming hair, just like conforming clothing, which I don't think it requires a skullcap.  Another one is dynamic, where hair "grow" from the skullcap.  That one works in Poser but not DAZ Studio.

I have seen skullcap that is a mesh very close to the head but not based on the head object.

Cage ( ) posted Sun, 10 July 2011 at 9:26 PM

[quote="BlueEcho"]Now can someone explain how to do that, please, please?

If you use Wings, the best way would probably be to cut the rough edges one polygon beyond their desired final edge, then connect corners of select polygons to create a smooth edge.  After that, remove any remaining, unwanted extra polygons surrounding your final clean edge.

If you use Blender, you should be able to create new polygons to clean up the edge areas without having to divide existing polys, as in Wings.

[quote=amy_aimei]I don't know what the skullcap for.  For growing hair in Poser's hair room?

Correct.  A skullcap like this one would be used as the base upon which to construct a dynamic hair piece.  :thumbupboth:

Hi;

I just uploaded the skullcap as is to the free site. It is in the Base figure section.

If anyone wants to edit it to finish it up they are free to do so. You will find a text included in the zip with usuage rights spelled out.

The rights are that it is free and you can do what you want with it...lol.

After watching a news report a few moments ago, I am uncertain as to how long I will have access to the internet.

Our Social Security checks may not be sent out in August and may be cut back severely. If this happens I will be making drastic cuts here as my check is my only income.

If it does a lot of us are in trouble financially.

Mom is 88 years old, blind and crippled, I am 65 and a host of health issues. How could we find work even if jobs were available?

One pressing concern is my Hostgator account which hosts Antonia's free site. That comes out of my checking account automatically each month. My checking account will disappear if my check does...sigh.

I guess I better see if they accept Paypal and figure a way to get the money in there.

It is $8.95 a month.

If this thing happens in August our whole economy might take a bad nose dive. things sure look bad right now and if it happens i will have to suspend my activity here until sometime in the future.

That means I will have to close my store here and at CP till further notice...sigh.

But I know I'm not the only one who will be affected by this as to our 3d work. We can only hope and pray it doesn't happen.

If anyone decides to download and edit the skullcap, will you send me a pic of what you do?

I just uploaded a very simple dress for Antonia to Freestuff here. It is awaiting approval. I made it with PhilC's basic clothing, edited in Blender. I triangulated the skirt so that it can work better as a hybrid in the cloth room. Nothing fancy, just a simple round neck with long sleeves. I provided several transparency maps to change the sleeve length, and also three different fabric texture bumpmaps: a weave, a knit and an interlock. The dress has 10 different fabric print designs, made in Gliftex.

Yeah I've been watching this nonsense for over a week already. It has pretty much ruined my entire month of July because when I can't pay my bills I'm one grumpy SOB!

Quote - Just an image of the half-long pants for Antonia I am working on. Dynamic, so nice folds.

I need to complete it with buttons etc. to make it more realistic and get the displacement maps right.

So, I do beg your patience for a short while more...

Well. To be honest I do not see the opportunity to finish it as I had wanted, so I submitted it 'as is' on the Anonia Free site.

Have fun.

Here is a work in progress pic of the shoes I am working on for Antonia. She needs to be a working lady in my images, so I needed the kind of shoes a girl can be comfortable wearing all day. I'll do several colours.

Not one that is ready-to-use. You can take the figure file of course and strip off the morphs you do not need in MorphManager.

The shoes look good. :)

Back to those who offered help on the Freesite...I'll let you know, if it becomes necessary, in August.

It's been a busy week so I haven't had a lot of tme to work on stuff but things are slowing down now.

Here's hoping I can at least get started on a new set I have in mind.

Let me introduce you to my multiple personalities. :)
